For Deep Vein Thrombosis "I was prescribed Eliquis 5 mg twice a day a week ago for 2 blood clots in my lower leg. I started having a gassy stomach and a full feeling even though I ate less, but I blamed that on eating more vegetables. My legs felt heavy in spite of my compression socks, but I blamed that on the socks. I had a headache and random itching, but I blamed that on my allergies. But after taking it for 5 days, my stomach hurt too much to eat. I drank some milk, which always helps my stomach, but I felt worse. I went ahead and took my usual dose that evening, then woke up at 2 a.m. with severe diarrhea. I had several more episodes that evening and the following day in spite of hardly eating anything. I had to skip work because I could not leave the house. I telephoned my doctor and left a message that I was not going to take Eliquis anymore, and I started taking a calcium antacid. That was yesterday. Today my stomach is still gassy and hurts, but the diarrhea, headache, and itching have stopped."

For Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "Started taking this in August 2023 for afib. I experienced extreme pain and weakness in my arms and shoulders, but didn't connect it to Eliquis. As an example of my issues, in spring 2023, I worked three days chainsawing trees and then stacked all the wood in big piles. However, this fall, when I started the same job, I couldn't even complete one hour of work. The same chainsaw felt too heavy, and my arms were in pain. I spent the next week hardly able to do anything, and my productivity was completely shot. I went to the doctors, got X-rays, and was evaluated. I was told it was arthritis, but it was actually my muscles hurting. One day this week, I was pleasantly surprised that the pain subsided, and I was able to sleep. That's when I realized I had missed two doses of Eliquis. Bingo."

For Pulmonary Embolism "I was 23 when I developed my first DVT and was instantly put on Xarelto. Being low risk, I was told to go on with normal activity. Xarelto left me feeling exhausted after minimal activity. Two days later, my DVT moved through my heart, into my lungs causing a PE. I was put on Heparin while in the hospital. Left the hospital a few days later and resumed Xarelto with the continued awful side effects. I continued to experience chest pain, shortness of breath, and extreme exhaustion. My doctor thought I was having a reaction to the medicine so they switched me to Eliquis. Since then, I have had zero side effects. I have my life back for once. Love that you don't need to have your INR checked, and foods don't counteract the drug."

For Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "75 years old, very active runner and skier, suffered first AF (atrial fibrillation) and minor TIA (transient ischemic attack) in April 2015, left with only slight speech impediment and some short-term memory loss. Put on Eliquis 5 mg, no side effects at all. Told to resume all my activities and return for routine blood tests in a year."

For Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "I have been taking Eliquis 5 mg for a year and was on Xarelto for a year. Taken off of Xarelto 20 mg due to not working. Now I take 1 chewable aspirin, Crestor, and now all my cholesterol stuff is low, and Eliquis 5 mg twice a day. I mainly get the dizziness and muscle cramps. Can't blame the dizziness all on Eliquis because I also take Verapamil SR 120 mg... ugh Angie age: 51"

For Pulmonary Embolism "22-year-old female. Got pulmonary embolism (PE) in March 2020. They were everywhere. Didn't get admitted. HORRIBLE pain. Seven months later, just got into a pulmonologist & hematologist. The reason for PE was never found. Eliquis worked for me, but I've had problems since I got PEs & started taking it. I feel something in my lung, inflammation levels are high, I have burning back, side, & tummy pain. Got my GB out for this. Was not it. Nobody can figure it out. I'm told I'm fine, & that is far from true. I don't know if it is the Eliquis or not. I've literally got the worst care possible with all of this."

For Pulmonary Embolism "I had a PE in August 2019. A blood clot went from my left calf to my lung. I had never had any issues related to blood clots before. While in the hospital, I was diagnosed as having Lupus Anticoagulant Disorder. I was sent home on Coumadin. I hated the side effects and how they made me feel. I had no energy and felt so lethargic. I went from having long hair past my butt to my hair being in a pixie-like cut. Coumadin made my hair fall out. And let's not even get started on the weekly to sometimes twice-weekly protime blood work. My INR was up and down and my fingers so sore and bruised from checks. Fast forward to April 2020, and the doctor finally switched me to Eliquis. I've had no side effects so far, and I'm so happy to be off Coumadin I could cry. For that, it has been a godsend. Now, as far as copay is concerned, I am on Medicaid, and it paid the full cost. I am not sure about others."

For Deep Vein Thrombosis "I was diagnosed with a deep vein thrombosis this past summer in my lower calf muscle. No injury to the area, so it was labeled an unprovoked event. I started taking Eliquis at 10 mg twice a day for 7 days and then 5 mg twice a day until last week. I am waiting for the doctor's consultation about the results of the last ultrasound. There was a gradual increase in side effects severity. My blood pressure spiked from low 90's-100's to 150 last week. My heartbeat is steady at low 60's per minute but pounds in the chest. My muscle and joint pain has stopped my exercising, as it causes me to limp for days, and minor use of the arms causes rib cartilage and sternum pain. Constipation followed by diarrhea is on a 1-3 day cycle now. The anxiety started out rare to now almost a daily occurrence. The answer I got to these concerns last week from the doctors was to keep taking my full-dose pill or die from a heart attack or stroke. The doctors don't seem to listen to the patients."

For Pulmonary Embolism "About 2 years ago, a large DVT was discovered and was immediately started on Eliquis. Started with a double dose for a short while, then 5 mg 2/day for almost a year, then dropped to 2.5 mg for about 6 months. No side effects that I can identify. At about 18 months, the hematologist decided that the DVT was 'incident related' and unlikely to recur. Off Eliquis, but continued 81 aspirin. Six months later, another clot found its way into my lungs, pulmonary embolism everywhere. The doctors declared me 'a clotter' and put me back on Eliquis at 5 mg 2/day -- this time for life. Well, they did suggest that I might cut back to 2.5 mg after a year if tests prove I'm stable. After reading other posts here, I'm thankful that all those terrible side effects have stepped aside in my case. The only effect I see is when I bash my knuckles when working on my truck, there's a little bit of extra bleeding -- probably good in the long run as it washes the wound."

For Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "I had a TIA in October 2020 and was diagnosed with atrial fibrillation. I was prescribed clopidogrel and 60 mg Lixiana, an anticoagulant. Ended up in A&E with severe vaginal bleeding. Am now on 5 mg of Eliquis twice per day (no clopidogrel) and again after 2 weeks experienced heavy bleeding and ended up in the hospital for 3 days having a saline drip to 'irrigate' my bladder until my urine ran clear. Have not been fortunate to see a cardiologist (he has a waiting list of 38 weeks) but was under the care of a urologist in the hospital. My GP insists taking Eliquis is preventing me from having a stroke or heart attack. But I am frightened of these severe side effects and fear a cranial bleed. Feel tired and listless and as a formerly fit 74-year-old, now have no energy and trouble walking far. Am between a rock and a hard place and think this drug is lethal and not fully understood by the medics. There must be an alternative as life is not worth living like this."

For Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "Possibly due to my flu/pneumonia, I had an episode of ventricular tachycardia followed by atrial fibrillation. I had an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) put in. I was put on beta blockers and antibiotics in the hospital and monitored for several days before going home with a prescription for Eliquis in addition to the other medications. The need for a blood thinner was debated because of very low risk factors. After the fourth dose of Eliquis on the second day of being released, I developed an itchy red rash over much of my face, neck, torso, arms, thighs, and genital area. The doctor advised me to stop taking Eliquis."

For Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "While on this, I developed gastrointestinal problems, which my gastroenterologist put me on 35 mg Pepcid at night, it stopped then. Next, my ankles became swollen, my big toe swollen and hurt. I felt bad every AM. I decided to cut my dose in half AM and PM. I found myself feeling good again and wondered what it was, then it dawned on me I couldn't take 5 mg twice a day of Eliquis. Feel so much better."

For Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "The following problems occur when taking Eliquis: First, I want to mention that I am also on Sotalol since 2008 (taken alone, no side effects) 80 mg AM and 40 mg PM. It seems as if most drugs that I try out have an effect on the Sotalol, although the register says that there is no interaction between those drugs. Besides, it runs in the family that most of us (3) have a problem with almost any drug. Eliquis: headache, restless heartbeat, perspiring, dizziness, physical instability, general weakness, and shaky legs, etc. Generally, unhappy."

For Pulmonary Embolism "My experience with Eliquis was AMAZING! I had no side effects whatsoever. I switched to Eliquis from Xarelto. On Xarelto, after 3 weeks, I was in so much pain from head to toe, a deep arthritis-type of pain, and such severe, deep menstruation even though I had started menopause 6 months before starting on Xarelto. I'm so thankful for Eliquis!"

I was on Coumadin for a while but had large swings in INR despite frequent monitoring and no change in diet. I have been on Eliquis for 3 years and have had no bleeding or side effects. Other than the fact that it is expensive and must be dosed twice daily, I have no complaints whatsoever."

For Deep Vein Thrombosis "Yes, so far I haven't had any bleeding experiences, nor have I had any further complications from my DVT. However, my leg pain and swelling are still present, and I've had a headache the entire time. I also just feel like my body hurts and my mouth hurts quite noticeably, gums swollen, but it's kept me from dying due to pulmonary embolism. I do not like this medicine, I would rather be on warfarin or heparin because I have taken them before and didn't experience these side effects."

For Venous Thromboembolism "I've been using Eliquis for a month now, and it is horrible. I have tremors, headache, a lot of gas, body pain, and joint pain. I take it for the prevention of DVT. If the doctor doesn't find another way to treat me, I'll just have to change doctors because Eliquis side effects are bad, and they won't change it to something else. I think the doctor gets paid extra for prescribing this medicine because he is too obsessed with giving me this garbage."

For Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "Cardiologist put me on Eliquis for A flutter about 4 months ago. Have no symptoms or problems with A flutter. If they didn't tell me I had it, I wouldn't know I had it. At first, I felt tired and had no energy. They said that could be due to A flutter. That has gotten better. I'm 70, so it could be just my age slowing me down. I go to the gym, work with a personal trainer, and he says for my age, I am in excellent shape. I play softball. I have no side effects of Eliquis so far. Maybe I bruise easier than before, but it goes away. Minor cuts don't seem to bleed any more than when I was on low-dose aspirin. I still want to get off of it, so I am going to a cardiologist to see if he can cure the flutter."

"I had one episode of A-Fib and ended up on Metoprolol and Eliquis. Paperwork supplied by the pharmacy said I should watch out for blood in urine. And it did appear... turned out I had a large kidney stone and had surgery for that. Then had surgery to remove diseased parathyroid... reason for kidney stone. Expected to start feeling better, but progressively got worse. I'm a healthy 69-year-old, but standing on my feet for too long was hard. Now, I have a knee that gets so sore and stiff I can barely get in or out of my car, I have trouble standing up from sitting, and have to stand and hold on for a minute to steady myself before walking... which I can only do slowly. I can barely go up and down stairs, and my washer/dryer are in the basement. I'm tired all the time - I can sit down and fall asleep for an hour or two or three. Fatigue, depression, sore joints, sore muscles, random pains, balance, no energy. I'm actually relieved to find a reason - apparently Eliquis side effects."

For Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "I've been on Eliquis for more than 5 years [5 mg twice a day]. Worst medication devised by mankind! From bruises to discolored skin, and painful skin to the touch. If anyone, including myself, touches my skin, it causes me pain. My cardiologist says the benefits outweigh the side effects. Maybe he'll end up on it someday, and then if I'm still alive, he can get in touch with me with his experiences."

For Pulmonary Embolism "I feel worse than when I was diagnosed with a PE. Awful chest pain, extreme knee, lower leg, and foot pain. Feel flushed and sweaty. Mild to moderate headaches. Weight gain of 15 pounds in 5 weeks, with water retention. Very easy to use, but not every medication is meant for everyone. 10 mg twice a day, then 5 mg twice a day. It has only been 5 weeks, and Dr. wants me on it for a lifetime. I would rather not wake up at all if this is how I have to live, which I already have canceled many activities due to the wretched way I feel from this medication. Meyers Squibb needs to be more open about reporting side effects instead of just pushing medications out on the market. FDA FOOLS!!!"

For Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "I recently started Eliquis (brand) as my doctor wants to do a cardioversion in hopes of getting my heart back into a normal rhythm. You need to be on a blood thinner prior to, and after, this procedure. Because of my past experiences with side effects, I quartered a few of the 5mg tablets and took one quarter (1.25mg) on each of the first two days. On the third day, I took two 1.25mg doses of Eliquis, twelve hrs apart, for a daily total of 2.5mg. Within 30 min after taking the second 1.25 dose, I began to feel a continuous internal tremor that lasted for 5 hrs. - no pain, no external tremor, no feeling ill. I am afraid to increase the dosage to reach the prescribed 5mg x 2/daily. Has anyone else experienced this side effect?"
