J-Vac

This treatment applies to the following species:
Company: Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health

Escherichia Coli Bacterin-Toxoid

For use in animals only

J-Vac Indications

This product has been shown to be effective for the vaccination of healthy cattle, including pregnant cows, against mastitis due to Escherichia Coli and endotoxemia due to E. Coli and Salmonella typhimurium. This product was licensed prior to the requirement to establish a minimum age for use. The duration of immunity has not been determined. For more information regarding efficacy and safety data, go to productdata.aphis.usda.gov.

Directions and dosage: Mix well before use. For vaccination against mastitis, inject one 2 mL dose intramuscularly or subcutaneously at 7 months of gestation or at dry off. Revaccinate at 1 to 3 weeks before calving and upon each successive gestation, as above.

For vaccination against the effects of endotoxemia, whole herd vaccination may be done at any time. Vaccinate with one 2 mL dose followed by a second dose 2 to 4 weeks later. The presence of maternal antibody is known to interfere with the development of active immunity in calves and additional boosters will be required in most young animals.

Contact your veterinarian or the manufacturer for information on revaccination frequency.

Precautions

Store away from heat or direct sunlight at 2-8°C (35-46°F). Do not freeze. Do not mix with other products. Use entire contents when first opened. Do not use chemicals to sterilize syringes and needles. Do not vaccinate within 21 days before slaughter. In rare instances, administration of vaccines may cause lethargy, fever, and inflammatory or hypersensitivity types of reactions. Treatment may include antihistamines, anti-inflammatories, and/or epinephrine. In case of human exposure, contact a physician.

Preservatives: Gentamicin, nystatin, and thimerosal.
