Equine IgG - Rhodococcus Equi Antibody, Equine Origin

The equine plasma contains no preservatives or additives. The donor used has been found free of hemolysins against 32 of the main antigens in blood groups A, C, D, K, P, Q, U and negative for agglutinins in blood groups Aa and Qa. Donor has also tested negative for equine parvovirus, EIA, EVA, dourine, piroplasmosis, brucellosis and glanders.

INDICATION: This product can be administered to foals for the treatment of failure of passive transfer (FPT) and/or as an aid in the management and control of respiratory disease associated with Rhodococcus equi. Each unit of plasma contains ≥24mg/ml of immunoglobulin G.

DOSAGE:

1. One initial dose is recommended for foals 12 to 48 hours of age.

2. A second dose may be administered 4-6 weeks later or based upon similar experience within Rhodococcus equi endemic area.

ADMINISTRATION: The plasma should be kept frozen (-17° to -40° C) until required. It should be thawed using only warm water and then warmed to body temperature. Plasma can be damaged by thawing in very hot water or in microwaves. Administer directly from the bag by slow filtered intravenous infusion. Do not mix with other products. Caution should be taken to avoid volume overload. Complications are very infrequent but may include mild reactions such as tachypnea and trembling. If these symptoms become severe and also include sweating and excessive shaking, it is advisable to slow the rate of administration or to stop and restart in 5 - 10 minutes. If the symptoms recur or persist, discontinue administration.

This product is frozen immediately after collection and has not been processed by heating or treating with ionizing radiation, and may be capable of spreading disease, including hepatitis (Theiler’s Disease) which is possible with the administration of any equine blood product. In case of human exposure, contact a physician.
