Equiplas R
This treatment applies to the following species:Equine IgG - Rhodococcus Equi Antibody, Equine Origin
Only for use in horses by a licensed veterinarian
The plasma contains no preservatives or additives. The donor used has been found free of hemolysins against 32 of the main antigens in blood groups A, C, D, K, P, Q, U and negative for agglutinins in blood groups Aa and Qa. Donor has also tested negative for EIA, EVA, dourine, piroplasmosis, brucellosis and glanders.
INDICATION: This product can be administered to foals for treatment of passive transfer (FPT) and/or as an aid in the management and control of respiratory disease associated with Rhodococcus equi.
DOSAGE:
1. One initial dose is recommended for foals 12 to 48 hours of age.
2. A second dose may be administered 4-6 weeks later, based upon similar experience within Rhodococcus equi endemic area.
ADMINISTRATION: The plasma should be kept frozen until required. It should be thawed using only warm water and then warmed to body temperature. Plasma can be damaged by thawing in very hot water or microwaves. Administer directly from the bag by slow filtered intravenous infusion. Do not add anything to the product. Caution should be taken to avoid volume overload. Complications are very infrequent but may include mild reactions such as tachypnea and trembling. If these symptoms become severe and include sweating and excessive shaking, it is advisable to slow the rate of administration or to stop and restart in 5-10 minutes. If the symptoms recur or persist, discontinue administration.
Equiplas R Caution
This product is frozen immediately after collection and is not pasteurized or otherwise treated. The transmission of viral diseases is possible with the administration of any blood product, as is the development of serum sickness, but these are rare occurrences using plasma in equidae.
