Federal law restricts this drug to use by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian.

Cal Dex Special 1100 Indications

A source of sterile injectable calcium, phosphorus, magnesium and dextrose for use in the treatment of milk fever (parturient paresis) in cattle (including lactating dairy cows).

Dosage and Administration

Administer intravenously, intramuscularly, subcutaneously or intraperitoneally. Warm to body temperature before administration to reduce any likelihood of shock reaction.

Cattle: 500 mL to 750 mL

Composition

Each mL contains:

Calcium (as gluconate salt)

22 mg (11 g / 500 mL)

Phosphorus

1.022 mg (511 mg / 500 mL)

Magnesium

0.402 mg (201 mg / 500 mL)

Dextrose

150 mg (75 g / 500 mL)

Water For Injection

q.s.

Osmolarity (calc.)

8,528 mOsmol/L

Precautions

This product should be administered using aseptic technique. Administration should be made slowly and to effect, with monitoring of the animal during administration. In cases where accelerated respiration rate or heart rate is observed during treatment, the administration should be stopped until these vital signs return to an acceptable rate at which time injection can be continued. If part or all dosage is given by subcutaneous or intramuscular administration, it is advised that a maximum of 25 mL per injection site be used. Any unused portion should be discarded. Do not use if material has precipitated.
