What if you had sex while using metronidazole vaginal gel?

Medically reviewed by Last updated on Oct 27, 2020.

Official Answer

Metronidazole vaginal gel is used to teat bacterial vaginitis, a bacterial infection of the vagina. Sexual intercourse is not advised whilst being treated. This is because it could reduce the effectiveness of the gel and you could infect your partner. You may need to consult your Doctor if the metronidazole gel has not cleared your infection, or if your partner starts to experience symptoms.
