Drug Interaction Report
2 potential interactions and/or warnings found for the following 2 drugs:
- conjugated estrogens / medroxyprogesterone
- etretinate
Interactions between your drugs
medroxyPROGESTERone etretinate
Applies to: conjugated estrogens / medroxyprogesterone, etretinate
Using etretinate and medroxyPROGESTERone is not recommended. Etretinate can cause severe, life-threatening birth defects if the mother takes the medication during pregnancy. Never use etretinate if you are pregnant. Both a primary and a secondary form of birth control must be used together and for at least 3 years after stopping therapy. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor. Taking these drugs can interfere with the contraceptive effect of medroxyPROGESTERone. Because use of etretinate is associated with major birth defects, microdosed 'minipill' progestin preparations are not recommended for women of childbearing potential treated with etretinate. The use of at least two methods of effective contraception is mandatory during etretinate therapy and for at least 3 years after stopping therapy. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
