Drug Interaction Report
3 potential interactions and/or warnings found for the following 2 drugs:
- Di-Gel Mint (calcium carbonate / magnesium hydroxide / simethicone)
- raltegravir
Interactions between your drugs
calcium carbonate raltegravir
Applies to: Di-Gel Mint (calcium carbonate / magnesium hydroxide / simethicone), raltegravir
Calcium carbonate can interfere with the absorption of raltegravir, even if they are not taken at the same time. This may reduce the blood levels of raltegravir, which may make the medication less effective in treating HIV infection. You should avoid taking aluminum- or magnesium-containing antacids during treatment with raltegravir. Calcium carbonate antacids should be avoided with once-daily raltegravir, but may be used with other raltegravir products. Talk to a healthcare provider if you have any questions or concerns. Your doctor or pharmacist may be able to recommend alternatives that do not interact with raltegravir. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
magnesium hydroxide raltegravir

Drug and food interactions
calcium carbonate food
Applies to: Di-Gel Mint (calcium carbonate / magnesium hydroxide / simethicone)
Calcium absorption may be increased by taking it with food. However, foods high in oxalic acid (spinach or rhubarb), or phytic acid (bran and whole grains) may decrease calcium absorption. Calcium may be taken with food to increase absorption. Consider spacing calcium administration for at least 2 hours before or after consuming foods high in oxalic acid or phytic acid. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
