Drug Interaction Report
2 potential interactions and/or warnings found for the following 2 drugs:
- Augmentin (amoxicillin / clavulanate)
- guar gum
Interactions between your drugs
amoxicillin guar gum
Applies to: Augmentin (amoxicillin / clavulanate), guar gum
Talk to your doctor before using guar gum together with amoxicillin. Products containing guar gum can interfere with the absorption of amoxicillin when it is taken orally. Your doctor may be able to prescribe alternatives that do not interact, or you may need to separate the dosing times of each medication by as much as possible. Contact your doctor if your infection worsens. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Drug and food interactions
guar gum food
Applies to: guar gum
Guar gum may interact with other medications if given at the same time. This can cause your other medications to become less effective. In general, all oral medications should be administered at least 2 hours before or 2 hours after dosing of guar gum. Take guar gum with a full glass (at least 8 ounces) of cool water or another liquid. Taking guar gum without enough liquid may cause it to swell in the throat and cause choking.
Therapeutic duplication warnings
No duplication warnings were found for your selected drugs.
Therapeutic duplication warnings are only returned when drugs within the same group exceed the recommended therapeutic duplication maximum.
