Drug Interaction Report
1 potential interaction and/or warning found for the following 2 drugs:
- lactulose
- Rowasa Sulfite Free (mesalamine)
Interactions between your drugs
lactulose mesalamine
Applies to: lactulose, Rowasa Sulfite Free (mesalamine)
Coadministration with lactulose or similar preparations may cause a reduction in the release of mesalamine from some oral tablet formulations of mesalamine. Bacterial metabolism of lactulose may lower the stool pH which may prevent the release of mesalamine from some oral tablet formulations. This interaction does not apply to all mesalamine preparations. Use of lactulose or similar preparations with certain oral tablet formulations of mesalamine should generally be avoided. Please consult the manufacturer's individual product labeling for more specific recommendations and guidance.
