- Genvoya (cobicistat / elvitegravir / emtricitabine / tenofovir alafenamide)
Interactions between your drugs
eszopiclone cobicistat
Applies to: eszopiclone, Genvoya (cobicistat / elvitegravir / emtricitabine / tenofovir alafenamide)
Cobicistat may significantly increase the blood levels of eszopiclone. This can increase the risk of side effects including daytime drowsiness, motor impairment, amnesia, anxiety, abnormal thinking, hallucinations, behavioral changes, and breathing difficulties (especially if you have a respiratory disorder such as asthma or obstructive sleep apnea). You may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring by your doctor to safely use both medications. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. Your doctor may already be aware of the interaction, but has determined that this is the best course of treatment for you and has taken appropriate precautions and is monitoring you closely for any potential complications. You should avoid the use of alcohol while being treated with eszopiclone. Avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how the medication affects you, and do not exceed the dosage or frequency of use prescribed by your doctor. Because there may be some residual effects of eszopiclone the day after you take it, it may be advisable to wait at least 12 hours after dosing to drive or operate machinery, even when you may feel fully awake. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
tenofovir cobicistat
Applies to: Genvoya (cobicistat / elvitegravir / emtricitabine / tenofovir alafenamide), Genvoya (cobicistat / elvitegravir / emtricitabine / tenofovir alafenamide)
Using cobicistat together with tenofovir can increase the effects of tenofovir, which can cause new or worse kidney problems. You may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring by your doctor to safely use both medications. Contact your doctor if your condition changes or you experience increased side effects. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
emtricitabine cobicistat
Applies to: Genvoya (cobicistat / elvitegravir / emtricitabine / tenofovir alafenamide), Genvoya (cobicistat / elvitegravir / emtricitabine / tenofovir alafenamide)
Cobicistat is a medication used to boost the effects of some medications that treat HIV infection. However, using cobicistat together with other HIV medications, such as emtricitabine, may alter the blood levels and effects of both medications. Using emtricitabine with cobicistat may reduce or increase blood levels of cobicistat. Reduced blood levels of cobicistat may make cobicistat less effective and may cause overall HIV treatment to be less effective. Cobicistat may increase blood levels of emtricitabine which may increase the risk of side effects. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions on how to use these medications properly. Your doctor may be able to prescribe alternatives that do not interact, or you may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring to safely use both medications. Contact your doctor if your condition changes or you experience increased side effects. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Drug and food interactions
eszopiclone food
Applies to: eszopiclone
Taking eszopiclone with a high-fat or heavy meal may delay the onset of sleep. For faster sleep onset, eszopiclone should not be administered with or immediately after a high-fat or heavy meal. This will make it easier for your body to absorb the medication. You should avoid the use of alcohol while being treated with eszopiclone. Alcohol can increase the nervous system side effects of eszopiclone such as dizziness, drowsiness, and difficulty concentrating. Some people may also experience impairment in thinking and judgment. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns.
elvitegravir food
Applies to: Genvoya (cobicistat / elvitegravir / emtricitabine / tenofovir alafenamide)
Food significantly increases the absorption of elvitegravir. You should take each dose of elvitegravir with a meal. Taking it on an empty stomach may lead to inadequate blood levels and reduced effectiveness of the medication in treating HIV infection.
tenofovir food
Applies to: Genvoya (cobicistat / elvitegravir / emtricitabine / tenofovir alafenamide)
Information for this minor interaction is available on the professional version.
