Neoloid Disease Interactions
There are 5 disease interactions with Neoloid (castor oil).
Castor oil (applies to Neoloid) dehydration
Major Potential Hazard, High plausibility. Applicable conditions: Hyponatremia, Hypokalemia, Electrolyte Abnormalities
The use of castor oil is contraindicated in patients with dehydration or electrolyte imbalance. Castor oil is hydrolyzed to glycerol and ricinoleic acid within the small intestine. Ricinoleic acid acts on the small intestine to reduce the net absorption of fluid and electrolytes. This altered intestinal permeability caused by castor oil may produce dehydration and electrolyte imbalance.
Castor oil (applies to Neoloid) intestinal obstruction
Major Potential Hazard, High plausibility. Applicable conditions: Gastrointestinal Obstruction
The use of castor oil is contraindicated in patients with intestinal obstruction. Fluid and electrolyte build up in the intestinal tract due to castor oil may exacerbate intestinal obstruction.
Laxatives (applies to Neoloid) inflammatory bowel disease
Major Potential Hazard, Moderate plausibility.
The use of laxatives is contraindicated in patients with inflammatory bowel disease. Patients with inflammatory bowel disease may experience colonic perforation with use of stimulant laxatives.
Laxatives (applies to Neoloid) intestinal obstruction disorders
Major Potential Hazard, Moderate plausibility. Applicable conditions: Gastrointestinal Obstruction
The use of laxatives is contraindicated in patients with intestinal obstruction disorders. Patients with intestinal obstruction disorders may need their underlying condition treated to correct the constipation. Some laxatives require reduction in the colon to their active form to be effective which may be a problem in patients with intestinal obstruction.
Stimulant laxatives (applies to Neoloid) rectal bleeding
Major Potential Hazard, Moderate plausibility.
The use of stimulant laxatives is contraindicated in patients with anal or rectal fissures. These preparations may cause irritation, burning sensation, and proctitis.
