For High Blood Pressure "I have been on verapamil ER for over a month and am now trying to wean off of it. I started out at 180 once a day. It brought my blood pressure down somewhat, but my heart rate went low, it was hovering over 57, sometimes 53. I didn't like the feeling of dizziness and shortness of breath it was causing. I went down to 80, heart rate still low and blood pressure was around 137/80. The worst part is trying to get off of it. My doctor told me to just stop taking it. The next night, my blood pressure was 225/117. Heart rate in the hundreds. You can't go off cold turkey. I'm trying to wean off, but having bad episodes of high blood pressure and changing heart rate. They should put a clear warning for going off this drug and how potent the drug is."

For Migraine Prevention "I started having dizziness and vertigo issues this year and was diagnosed with migraines in May. I was put on Prozac, which helped with anxiety, but not with dizziness. Then the doctor added verapamil to my daily medication, initially at 120 mg, which reduced the dizziness greatly within days. Then we upped it to 240 mg with even better results. I am about to go in for a one-month check-up. I might ask if we can up the dose to 320 mg or 360 mg to get rid of the dizziness completely. This medicine has been a miracle, it gave me my life back."

For Migraine Prevention "Was prescribed this medicine to prevent migraines, which I was getting several times a week. After being on these tablets for 3 months, I have had no relief from the migraines, either in frequency or severity, and have experienced side effects including night sweats, hot flushes, dizzy spells, and shaking."

For Migraine Prevention "I have been prescribed verapamil for vestibular migraines that I have had for the last 8 weeks, with the only symptoms being tiredness and disequilibrium. I am still in my first week of taking it (4 days) and have found it great. It has cleared the lethargy and tiredness, and my disequilibrium has improved substantially. The only side effects I have had are slight dizziness if I move too fast or get up too quickly from sitting, and my feet have been feeling a little swollen at night, but nothing major. I am a 45-year-old male and normally very fit and take 90 mg of verapamil each day for a month, followed by 180 mg in the second month."

For Migraine Prevention "I had my first severe migraine attack at age 7 and was rushed to emergency! Now age 40; and after having 2 kids, migraines became way worse almost every day! The only thing that worked was Excedrin Migraine, but I was fearful of the effects of long-term use of OTCs. Tried Botox, which was very expensive and only got rid of migraines during treatment; then they came right back... plus Botox side effects were awful. Topamax worked, but terrible side effects as well. My doctor recently put me on Verapamil 80 mg, 0.5 tabs, 3x/day and FINALLY a lifesaver!!!! In the first week of use, I still had migraines. In the 2nd week of use, slight dizziness for about half an hour after taking the med, but NO more migraines!!!!! Miracle drug! I have my life back!! Wish I had been introduced to this med years ago."

For Migraine Prevention "I've had migraines for over 30 years and have tried so many things. My doctor started me on Verapamil 240 mg 3 weeks ago. I've had no relief. If anything, my migraines have been more intense. This was pretty much my last chance, as I have tried everything else. I average 12 to 15 migraines a month and am so tired of them. I was so hoping this would work. I'm going to give it a little longer, but am getting night sweats and dizziness from it."

For Migraine Prevention "I was diagnosed with chronic migraine at 18 years old and put on Topamax, which helped until recently. I am 23 now and was in a car accident several months ago, started having vertigo, dizzy spells before a migraine, and almost every day is a headache day. I went to a new neuro who started me on 120 mg verapamil, increased to 180 mg, then 240 mg. At 240 mg, the side effects were too much, and I am back to 180 mg daily. It has definitely helped reduce vertigo. I still get some dizziness and lightheadedness every now and then. The migraines are still almost every day. Waking up with a headache and going to sleep with a migraine many days."

For High Blood Pressure "I'm on Verapamil for high blood pressure, and I have the uncommon symptoms like edema, dizziness, shortness of breath, and hair loss. I'm trying to get off of it, and I normally take 240 mg per day, and yesterday I took 1/2 of a pill less, and my BP went up 20 points. I'm trying to find a BP med that works better with my body."

For Cluster Headaches "Began episodic cluster headaches 15 years ago at age 49. 5 years later, they became chronic. Suffered terribly for a few years until I was prescribed verapamil 80 mg tabs with a dose up to 240 mg 3x/day. I continually self-regulate my dosage to the minimum effective dose; increasing (up to the maximum) when clusters try to break through, then slowly cutting back to whatever keeps the clusters away. My normal maintenance dose is about 120 mg to 160 mg 3x/day. When I have my dose right, I get zero indication of headaches, not even a hint. I have had no side effects with any dosage of verapamil daily for 9 years but wonder if occasional dizziness may be attributable to the verapamil. Neither slow-release verapamil nor Imitrex worked for me."

Verapamil for High Blood Pressure "I have been on Verapamil 200 mg ER for two months. Recently, I started getting palpitations, feeling dizzy, skipped beats, and a fluttering and coughing sensation in my throat area and slow HB. I called my doctor and lowered my dose to 100 mg, and he scheduled me for a Holter monitor to see if it’s the medication. I am hoping it is, and maybe he can switch me back to Toprol XR."

For Migraine Prevention "I have had traditional migraines since I was young. I was put on Topamax when I was 12, and I had a day-ending migraine 6 days a week. I am still on topiramate (generic Topamax) and have maybe one migraine every year or two. However, recently, I was having stroke symptoms. Turns out hemiplegic migraines are a thing. They present like a stroke but are a migraine. I was put on verapamil 120 mg. It is working somewhat but not completely. I have found if I don't eat carbs or sugar, I maintain BP and don't get so dizzy or sleepy. Hope this helps someone. For regular migraines, I highly recommend Topamax, I've been on it every day for almost 20 years, and very few side effects and almost zero migraines."
