For High Blood Pressure "I was switched from amlodipine to verapamil. While it maintained my BP, my heart rate was still high. The first day felt great, after that, I felt like I was dying. Memory loss, confusion, heart palpitations, high anxiety (never been anxious), scared to leave the house. I begged my cardiologist and GP to take me off this medication. I took it for 3 weeks, and it was the worst time of my life. It hurt my throat and esophagus, I had diarrhea, lost 15 lbs, and was in pain every day."

For High Blood Pressure "I was told to take Verapamil once a day. The first day was fine, no problems at all. The second day (only the 2nd tablet I took) was horrendous. Within 30 minutes of taking the tablet, I began to feel very hot. Within about 40 minutes, I could barely stay seated upright - I felt so weak. Then I started to feel like I was no longer in my body. I became very anxious and felt extremely ill, to the point where I actually thought I might be dying! This continued for about an hour, then began to lessen. I didn't take a 3rd dose (unsurprisingly!). Months later, I was doing some research after having my DNA sequenced and found I have a metabolic disorder called TMAU (trimethylaminuria). TMAU causes my body not to process some chemicals properly, including some medications, e.g., Verapamil. I presume this is the reason I had such an extremely bad reaction to it."

For Arrhythmia "I have been taking Verapamil ER 180 mg once daily for arrhythmia for less than a week, but my pulse hasn’t gone down below 100. I also have ankylosing spondylitis and pulmonary hypertension. I feel anxious all the time. Could this be a combination of all my health problems?"

For Cluster Headaches "I have been suffering from cluster headaches periodically for the past 3 years. Did some research online and decided to ask my doc for some verapamil. Last Christmas, I started taking it just before a holiday party and accidentally found out it also calms my anxiety. I was able to relax and talk to people like a normal person and actually enjoyed people's company. It was a while since I felt that way in a social situation, and I am so glad I came across verapamil."

For Supraventricular Tachycardia "Supraventricular tachycardia began 4/2012. Initial prescribed amount 240 mg (80 mg) 3 x a day reduced for travel purposes to 1180 mg per day. Prescribed with Flecainide (50 mg 2 x a day). Some constipation, some melancholia, and anxiety. Overall satisfaction okay."
