For Onychomycosis, Toenail "After 6 weeks on terbinafine, I lost my taste. Terrifying. Everything tasted bitter, and even when not eating, a persistent bitter taste in my mouth. The doctor told me to get off the medication immediately, which, of course, I did. Had no clue this was a side effect -- was mostly worried about liver function side effects. I am starting to get some of my taste back after 7 weeks off the medication!!! And my doctor said to give it several more months before it resolves. I am so depressed. Don't even get me started that I read on the internet it might NEVER return. Hopefully, since I am starting to taste, it will return. DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICATION. Not worth the risk."

For Onychomycosis, Toenail "I used the paint-on nail liquid for 18 months with no effect. I was changed onto terbinafine by the doctor. Three weeks after taking it, I have had no difference, have nausea every day, and have completely lost all sense of taste. The good side is I'm losing the excess half a stone, but I am starving."

Terbinafine for Onychomycosis, Toenail "After 5 days of taking this drug, I began to notice a burning sensation in the back of my throat as well as my upper esophagus…as if they were on fire. I initially thought it was acid reflux, but after taking very potent anti-acid medication without relief, I realized it must be this drug. So I looked at the prescribing information from the manufacturer. It states that dyspepsia (heartburn) as well as loss of taste were effects noted as higher than placebo. But what concerned me was it also stated that while these conditions can be reversible, in some cases, these symptoms were not reversible. Simply Google: Oral Lamisil prescribing information. And then even more ominous: It states that the drug has shown to be toxic to the liver… and this was not one of those very rare effects that pharmaceutical companies must mention. Conversely, they state it is not a rare phenomenon."

For Onychomycosis, Toenail "My husband took terbinafine for 3 months, then stopped 2 days prior to kidney stones lasering. The hospital informed him his blood platelets had nose-dived. They are now back up, but he has lost his taste for 5 months, still continuing! He had awful itchy skin, especially arms/legs, with slight purple circles and pinpricks on arms. His legs were extremely dry, still treating them! The toenail has cleared but definitely not worth what he's been through and still continuing (no taste). Seeing an ENT in 2 months. Only through research did he realize that this medication was the cause. His last doc said terbinafine wouldn't cause this, although we now know different. Be warned, do your research if you decide to go ahead! He took 1 tab daily for 3 months, his taste went towards the end, of course, other symptoms (above) appeared 2 months in."

For Onychomycosis, Toenail "Took terbinafine 250 mg once a day for 6 weeks and 5 days and then had the side effect of losing all taste - I can’t taste sugar, salt, sour, savory, everything has a horrible taste. I have a constant salty metallic taste in my mouth, chewing minty chewing gum helps a bit. I’m now on week five and still haven’t regained taste. A few things I have been able to taste slightly from the start of this taste loss are mushrooms, eggs, and oranges, but very slightly, everything is bland or just tastes disgusting. I’m not sure how long my taste buds will take to come back, this is an awful experience. I have lost a stone in weight since this happened as food tastes horrible. I’m not sure as yet if this medication has helped my toenails. I wouldn’t recommend anybody using this medication."

For Onychomycosis, Toenail "I have been taking terbinafine for 7 weeks and lost my sense of taste after 5 weeks. Now all solid food tastes revolting, and I have a constant soapy feeling in the back of my throat. I am very angry that my doctor did not warn me of this potential side effect. Now she tells me I may never get my taste back. My nails are growing back better, but what a price to pay! I’d much rather have toe fungus. Don’t risk taking this drug. Many others have had similar experiences."

Terbinafine for Tinea Pedis "Under the direction of my MD, I took Lamisil for 7 weeks, and my sense of taste disappeared. The past 8 weeks, my taste has come and gone. Miserable side effect."

For Onychomycosis, Toenail "I finally started this medication in Sept. of 2016. The only side effect I had was loss of taste, and once I finished my 90-day supply, my taste came back. My toenails were awful."

For Onychomycosis, Toenail "Absolutely awful. After 6 weeks of taking these, I have no taste for food, which practically happened overnight. Awful taste of cardboard and feel sick whenever I try to eat. Avoid at all costs!!!"
