For Urinary Tract Infection "I went on this medication, and within an hour, I was shaking uncontrollably, then went into cold sweats. The top of my head and the back of my neck got extremely red, and my face was also blood red. The symptoms would subside after about 5-6 hours, and I would feel better, but I would go through the same routine over again once I took another pill. On day two, the symptoms got worse. My back and joints got so sore I could barely function. Still shaking uncontrollably, along with the cold sweats. I got really dizzy and had to sit often. I was drinking a bottle of water every hour, but it still didn't help, let alone having to urinate every 30 minutes. Insomnia set in, and I couldn't sleep. On the third day, I finally called the doctor, and they prescribed me something new. Symptoms: headaches, rashes, fever, joint pain, back pain, sore throat, heavy coughing, dizziness, forgetfulness, insomnia, uncontrolled shaking, cold sweats, freezing and not able to get warm."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim for Urinary Tract Infection "I've been on it for 3 out of 7 days, and these are my side effects: itchy skin, migraines, joint pain, muscle pain, horrible neck pain, nausea, eye irritation, pinpoint red spots on skin, trouble sleeping, random bruising, vaginal itching, swollen glands. I've been taking leftover prescription ibuprofen to tackle the joint, muscle, and head pains, but if it wears off, I am writhing in pain. This medication, though it seems to be working on the UTI, has given me so many torturous side effects, I will never use it again. As an aside, I am allergic to amoxicillin. Obviously, talk to your doctor about meds, but I'd personally suggest being cautious about getting this med prescribed to you if you've never taken it."

For Acne "On for 6 months now. Experiencing a lot of the side effects mentioned here, only now connecting it. I have generalized anxiety disorder, so it’s not unusual for me to experience anxiety, but over the last few months, I’ve had frequent panic attacks (something that I haven’t had for a long time prior). I’ve also been incredibly depressed, at times suffering from deep and dark depression. I noticed my panic kicks up about an hour after taking a dose. Like others, I’ve had no appetite (although I’ve been drinking tons of water, which I usually hate) and haven’t slept a full, uninterrupted night in a few months. I also feel really disconnected from reality. On the other hand, my skin has improved markedly. The times I do start to get a sore/beginning of infection, it clears within a day or two. I haven’t had any bouts of cellulitis (which I had 3 times last year) while on this med. I’m just not sure the cost outweighs the benefits for me at this point."

For Bacterial Infection "I was given this medication for a tooth infection under a crown. The next day, I had awful neck and back pain. I went to the chiropractor! The following day (day 3), I could not sleep for 5 nights because all my nerve endings were screaming in pain, and I was almost hallucinating! The next night, I was fine. It helped the tooth, then, on Christmas night, my body was extremely painful (even my breasts hurt). I saw white flashes and tossed to each side constantly. Extreme pain, and I did not sleep at all! So, I quit taking the sulfa drug and went to the doctor 2 days later. They did all these blood tests and concluded I must be on the mend. I am still in extreme back pain 3 days after quitting the drug!"

For Urinary Tract Infection "My right lymph node has gone down a little (swells a lot when I have any infection or cold) and also seems to be getting rid of UTI, but the side effects are so horrible I feel like death. Nobody understands except people up here who are going through the same. Migraines, insomnia out this world (3 days and only 5 hours of sleep), vomiting, and sick to my damn stomach. This is ridiculous...."

For Bacterial Skin Infection "I’m on my 7th day of taking Bactrim for an infection in my ankle after spraining it, and the side effects keep getting worse each day for me. Keep in mind that everyone reacts to drugs differently. I’ve seen a lot of great reviews on it. My personal experience has been a lot of anxiety and 0 sleep. I do not have an anxiety disorder, nor have I experienced this amount of anxiety besides when something life-changing was on the line in my life. I have been awake for almost 3 days straight while on this medicine. Every time I close my eyes, I can feel my heart beating out of my chest, my breaths are short, I feel weak and shaky, and my brain won’t shut up. Disclaimer: I have been drinking a lot of water with it as well as eating a full meal beforehand. The only thing I’ve done out of the ordinary is take melatonin after the Bactrim because of how badly I wanted to sleep. (Side note: it didn’t work. I’m still awake.) But, my infection did go away. So that’s a plus."

For Urinary Tract Infection "C. koseri in urine culture. Course: 480 mg 2x daily for 7 days. It was a generic from Apotex called sulfatrim. Right away, I have to ask, how difficult is it to coat the tablets in thin gelatin knowing that they are so irritating? They irritated my tongue, so I had to dip the tablets in olive oil before taking them. My stomach was on fire, letting acid and bile reach up to my throat. I quickly lost most of my appetite. However, 2 tablespoons of Pepto Bismol before each tablet (food alone never helped) solved this issue too. Lastly, there was neurotoxicity. Unfortunately, I am sensitive in this respect to many antibiotics. There is nothing to do about it. I had to manage through night sweats, insomnia, vivid dreams, and weird perception of the world. At the same time, the medication made me very relaxed, which was nice. After frank hallucinations on Clavulin, this did not make me worry much."

For Bacterial Infection "I have been taking Bactrim for 3 days - twice a day. It’s easy to use, but I don’t like the way it makes me feel - tired, trouble sleeping, with dizziness, stomach discomfort, nausea, and now I have been vomiting since yesterday (2nd) day. I think the Dr. will reduce my taking it from 7 to 3 days. I don’t wish anyone to take it. There has to be another antibiotic to use. I only hope it clears my infection."

For Bacterial Infection "Yeah, so here I am on my first dose, and I'm already Googling why I feel like this. Loss of appetite, insomnia, heart beating fast, and just feeling awful. I have 15 mins until I take the next one, and I have been dreading it, but after reading these reviews, I think I'll pass and call the doctor back and ask for something different or just take one a day instead of two a day."

For Bacterial Infection "I was put on sulfamethoxazole-TMP DS (generic Bactrim DS) 2x daily for 7 days to knock out a minor UTI. Side effects of this medicine grew worse throughout the week. They can't be attributed to the UTI as that improved drastically by Day 2 of the medicine. Symptoms started at the beginning of the week with feeling unusually fatigued, generally weak (could barely complete a short workout), a bit lightheaded, and feeling 'out of it'/fuzzy. I also suffered from an off-and-on headache throughout the week. I am not normally prone to any of these issues. I also slept very poorly (also not my norm) while taking this medicine, and by Day 5 I woke up feeling exhausted and just generally unwell. Perhaps the worst symptom was feeling like I was burning up or overheating during the latter part of the week. My family members assured me the house was cool, but I felt like I was on fire. Take this medication with caution-request something else if possible."

For Bacterial Skin Infection "So I’ve been taking this medicine for 8 days now. I got a staph infection on my areola from an open wound on it. Anyway, I was fine until day 2 and got super nauseated, but it’s bearable. On day eight, it’s just loss of appetite and super bad heartburn, but also bearable. I’ve been having a hard time sleeping on this, but when I do start dozing off, I’m dead to the world, and everything feels weird, lol. Medications aren’t meant to be pleasant, so I can’t complain. On a side note, it made the infection almost completely disappear. It’s still pink and scabby looking, but two more days should do the trick!"

For Upper Respiratory Tract Infection "Will not be taking this sulfamethoxazole with trimethoprim combo antibiotic again, it worked well, but the side effects were horrible. In the 3 days of taking them, I experienced severe shakes, itching, insomnia, and extreme panic and anxiety. It felt like I was losing my mind, and I also developed a yeast infection, but that’s a natural reaction from any antibiotic. I’m almost on my last dose, and I’m definitely discontinuing it, it’s not worth it."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Went in to the OBGYN office, thought I had an STD (I didn’t). They prescribed me Metronidazole 500 mg, a butt shot of ceftriaxone, and Doxycycline 100 mg. After 2 days of taking these, I developed a horrible UTI. I went in for my check-up where the OBGYN prescribed me Sulfamethoxazole-TMP DS Tabs #6 for the UTI. I ate these after eating food, drinking lots of water. A while after taking these, my heart began to race, I mean, I was in a state of tachycardia. My body was going out, my vision was blurry, I was seeing things that were NOT there. Insomnia, oh, and the body convulsions. I was having a full-blown seizure, my husband was panicked because he had no idea what was going on. I didn’t want to go to the ER for nothing, thinking maybe it was something else. It was these pills. My body was tender this morning, I could barely move. I still have 3 more days, and I won’t be finishing them. Do not take these, please."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I had an awful experience with my second dose of it. I was prescribed it without confirmation that I had a UTI, thankfully, I don't and got immediately off it. I took it in the evening, and then I was suddenly overcome with nausea, shaking, insomnia, and anxiety. Also, it changed my appetite from my first dose and took about 4 hours for the anxiety and nausea to pass and 12 hours to get my appetite back. Highly do not recommend."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Prescribed 2x a day generic Bactrim DS for 5 days. Stopped after 3 days due to severe side effects that started 30 minutes after the first dose. Only plus, seems to have cured UTI, but I will never take this medicine again. Day 1: Severe nausea/vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhea, extremely dehydrated despite nonstop drinking water/Gatorade. Dry mouth, dry eyes, dry sensitive skin. Complete loss of appetite. Extreme weakness, couldn’t stand or walk, dizziness, loss of coordination. Brain fog, confusion, and stiff neck. Pressure in the base of the skull. Headache and muscle/joint pain all over. Hands trembling, shaking all over. Chills, hot/cold all day/night. Day 2: These symptoms amplified plus insomnia, anxiety, depression. Panic attacks upon waking up. Terrible vivid nightmares, night terrors, hallucinations, sleep paralysis. Sleep apnea and general trouble breathing. Swollen lips. Pins and needles, face numbness. Afraid to sleep because it felt like I was going to die. Back pain. Brain felt like it was swelling."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim for Kidney Infections "Prescribed Septra DS for kidney infection. I didn't have any side effects until the 4th day in, vomiting orange liquid, stomach upset & pains, lower back pain, side pains (both sides), super weak, super dizzy, lightheaded. I am so tired, and I keep having stomach spasms, insomnia. I was almost wanting to go to the hospital, but I hate hospitals, so that's not happening. I nearly also passed out while walking. My pet dog is looking at me funny. Like I made a mistake taking the pills, he's right, I did. Smart dog. Septra is horrible! I keep telling docs to prescribe Ciprofloxacin because of 0 side effects, but no one listens, so they give me this Septra DS stuff. Ugh."

For Bacterial Infection "I had a UTI infection, and my doctor gave me this medicine, Septra DS, for 7 days. I want my UTI to go away (which is gone, thankfully), but I’m already on antidepressants and anti-anxiety meds. After 3-4 days, my anxiety and depression flared up. On days 5 and 6, it was worse, with insomnia too. Today is my last day, and soon I'm going to have the last pill, and I’m done. But these 3-4 days were like hell. I told my doctor on the 5th day about my symptoms. He said to complete 7 days but, meanwhile, increase the anxiety tabs, but my anxiety was so bad that it wasn’t even controlled by my anti-anxiety meds. NEVER EVER TAKING THIS MEDICINE AGAIN. I hope someone finds this review useful."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I took this medication and have been sick for over 3 years now. DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE!! I am suffering from: chest pain, stomachache, nerves are stressed, my eyes are red constantly, I have real bad trouble breathing, my feet have swelling and lumps, cannot sleep at all during the night, pain back issues, vomiting real hard every other day, lost a lot of time not being able to work, urinating is so dark yellow. I mean, I am just in so much pain and sickness. They will lie and say you have infections, but you really don't."
