"Was prescribed sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim for a kidney infection. I couldn't wait to take it as I was in a lot of pain. The 2nd day of taking it, the pain was completely gone and I felt great. Day 3 is another story. Currently lying in bed with severe anxiety. I actually feel like I'm going nuts. It is now 3:30 a.m., and I went to bed at 11:30 p.m. and not one bit tired. Have completely lost my appetite. I haven't eaten in 3 days, really just nibbles here and there, and that's just forcing myself. Do not like this drug at all :("

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim "I am not a huge fan of how I feel while on it. I have had significant constipation, a slight headache, and some slight lightheadedness. A little bit of tiredness. I also don't like how large the pills are. Other than that, though, I have tolerated it well. I have been drinking so much water (10+ glasses) a day on it too. Does not seem to upset my stomach (other than the constipation discomfort). I do fear, though, that it is not knocking out my kidney infection as I am still having some symptoms while on it for 10 days."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim "I was prescribed this for a pilonidal cyst. Omg, I was sick to my stomach. I couldn't eat anything, then stomach cramps, but couldn't poop for a week! I called, and she said to continue. I finally ended up in the ER, and they said I should have never taken that! Yeah, wrong medicine. He gave me cipro and drained the cyst. Now, my kidney blood work is at GFR 3.8, I was fine before this! I'm so annoyed."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim "I've been taking Bactrim DS now for my recurrent UTIs and kidney infections. I am very sensitive and allergic to many things, but I get absolutely no side effects from Bactrim DS despite having polycythemia vera (red blood cell disorder) and autoimmune disorders. The secret for me is to drink lots of water while taking this medication to not feel weak/sleepy, and also I avoid the sun while on it. Bactrim has been my go-to antibiotic for UTIs and for MRSA boils, which I occasionally get (healthcare worker). Overall, it is very effective and doesn't make me sick."

"I've taken this medicine because I was diagnosed with a severe kidney infection. I felt amazing after 1 day of taking this. It does make you feel a little nauseous, and I had slight pressure on my head and maybe very dull pain on my sides and lower back sometimes. But for me, it has worked wonders. Also, I'd like to state I was back to working out in the gym after 3 days. But I had to stop because I threw up from the medication. If you have this, please rest until you finish your medication. But overall, it's been a good experience, no crazy symptoms, and just mild for me."

"This medicine gave me severe anxiety every single day that I took it. My panic attacks have been under control for over a year now, and I had multiple every day I took it. My heart felt fluttery, and I felt like I was high and almost out of body. Terrible nausea and dizziness...almost like I couldn't focus my eyes. Made me so fatigued I had to stay in bed for days, and any exertion got me out of breath."

"Not only did this medication cause both kidneys to swell up like balloons with inflammation, it was extremely painful. When I went to the doctor, they were in denial and told me to keep taking them. I stopped one day short of 7 days due to the pain, and immediately my swelling of my kidneys went down. Still slightly sore, so I will be going back for a different antibiotic for my kidneys."

"I will never take this medication again or ever allow my children to take it either! After the 2nd dose, my hands became itchy, and after the 3rd dose that same night, my hands again began to itch so bad. Then my arms, and within an hour of taking the pill, I had hives all over my hands, and my face began to swell, my chest got tight until I could barely breathe! I'm 38 years old, never been allergic to anything, and never had Benadryl before until that night, and thank goodness for Benadryl! It saved my life, but my doctor has done nothing or asked to see me since then! That was 3 Fridays ago, obviously, I'm allergic to it, and my useless healthcare provider hasn't even contacted me!"

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim "Prescribed Septra DS for kidney infection. I didn't have any side effects until the 4th day in, vomiting orange liquid, stomach upset & pains, lower back pain, side pains (both sides), super weak, super dizzy, lightheaded. I am so tired, and I keep having stomach spasms, insomnia. I was almost wanting to go to the hospital, but I hate hospitals, so that's not happening. I nearly also passed out while walking. My pet dog is looking at me funny. Like I made a mistake taking the pills, he's right, I did. Smart dog. Septra is horrible! I keep telling docs to prescribe Ciprofloxacin because of 0 side effects, but no one listens, so they give me this Septra DS stuff. Ugh."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim "Went to ER 3 days ago with a UTI that spread to my kidneys. Was given Bactrim, 2 a day for 14 days. I cannot sleep, constant nausea, and last night I literally felt like I couldn’t breathe. Kidney infection is much better, but I’m not sure I can finish this prescription because this medication is no joke!"

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim "Has got to be the worst antibiotics I've ever been on, no pain relief at all on the third day in, I keep getting weird sensations in my body, and the constipation is horrible. I've also been told (by people around me) I've been really aggressive and depressed and lashing out ever since it built up in my system."

"Was told to take for 14 days for a kidney infection, took for 7 and the infection cleared. Doc said to keep taking them, but they made my heart beat fast around day 11, so I've stopped."
