For Urinary Tract Infection "I thought I had a UTI, the doctor put me on the antibiotic Bactrim DS. By the third day, I thought I was having a heart attack, heart palpitations were so bad the doctor called and took me off the meds. Apparently, I did not have a UTI, instead, I had a kidney stone. The problem now is heart palpitations never got better when I stopped the Bactrim, and it's 5 months later. Some days are so bad with palpitations, and I have trouble breathing when it happens, I have jitters when it happens. I hope it goes away soon, it's a horrible feeling. I will never take it again."

For Acne "I've been using this product for a little over a week now, and already my skin is clearing up! I've dealt with acne and post-acne scarring for about 3 years now. I am 16, and I'm so glad I found something that's working! I used it along with Finacea (azelaic acid), and my skin just keeps improving!"

For Urinary Tract Infection "I have been suffering with a UTI for at least a month and a half. I have been prescribed nitrofurantoin and Cipro 2 times. With those drugs, I still had the urge to urinate, and immediately when I stopped those two antibiotics, the symptoms came right back. Doctors were getting ready to send me to a urologist until I mentioned Bactrim. After one dose of the antibiotic, I was feeling 80% better. I haven't had any side effects yet, and it's day 2. This drug is God-sent!"

For Urinary Tract Infection "This is the second time for me that this has been prescribed for a UTI. The side effects are beyond terrible. Every joint in my body ached, major fatigue, rash, eyes very bloodshot. The worst thing, though, was the dry, cracked lips and loss of mucus membranes in the vulvar, vaginal area. I have never heard of this kind of side effect, and neither did the urologist. This has happened both times I was on Bactrim. I stopped taking it and never will again."

For Bacterial Skin Infection "I'm on my fourth 800/160 pill of Bactrim, treating MRSA infection, which has also caused my lymph nodes behind my knee and groin to swell and hurt. I initially took doxycycline for about 4 days, with worsening infection. Bactrim worked day 1. The infection started to clear, and lymph swelling and pain are going away. Unfortunately, I had severe anxiety, including shaking, tightness in my chest, very dizzy, and feelings of doom. It's possible this was brought on by me overreacting to a slight side effect, but this is a very strong antibiotic. It works, but you might have to suffer through it. Not fun."

For Bacterial Infection "I’ve been taking this and am randomly getting anxiety and a jittery feeling. I also keep having weird dreams since I’ve been on it. I had an ear/near my tooth infection. I’m allergic to amoxicillin, so I was prescribed Bactrim. I’m on the 8th day, and I feel insomnia and anxiety. My feet are also really cold. It fluctuates, but I’ll be quitting tomorrow since I don’t feel like myself."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Any antibiotic used will put you at risk for a yeast infection. It depletes the normal flora in the vaginal area. Bactrim DS is a great antibiotic to get rid of many forms of infection, though. Weigh your pros and cons. You can always add yogurt to your diet, which assists in helping to prevent yeast infections."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Little did I know, I am horribly allergic to sulfa. After two pills, I began experiencing horrible leg and arm cramps. They were so bad that I was unable to stand for longer than a couple of minutes. These symptoms took about a week to fully disappear, and this was from taking only 2 pills!"

For Urinary Tract Infection "I was authorized to take Bactrim, 2 pills a day for 5 days, to cure my UTI. This, by far, has been the worst side effects I’ve ever experienced while taking antibiotics. I did eat right before taking the pills, and I got terrible nausea, light-headed spells, and muscle cramps. I drank plenty of water to help dissolve the meds, that was all that seemed to subside, if for a little while."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I took Bactrim 2x a day for 3 days for a UTI. I did experience some strange side effects, but it knocked the UTI out in 24 hrs. My skin felt warm and itchy, and I was very sun sensitive. I was very edgy with my husband and son and had difficulty falling asleep the last night. Glad I'm done with them, but overall I feel it was worth it to get rid of the UTI."

For Bacterial Skin Infection "Super bad reaction. TERRIBLE! High fever, loss of appetite, lethargy, brown urine, liver inflammation. NO RASH. After 7 days on Bactrim DS, feeling beyond terrible, I did some internet research and suspected drug fever. Ceased taking. Went to my doctor who ran blood tests which confirmed my suspicions. Liver enzymes: AST/SGOT 335 H (mine) 14-36 (unit/L) (normal range) ALT/SGPT 581 H 9-52 (unit/L) Alk Phos 307 H 38-126 (unit/L) Levels started to go down after I stopped taking it; it took 3 months for levels to return to normal. A lot of information says you have a rash with drug reactions. I did NOT. My skin infection did clear up. It wasn't that bad to start with. I asked him for something topical. Was not my regular doc who prescribed it. My doc said it was overkill. Just because the guy's a doctor doesn't mean he is a good doctor! Be your own advocate. Another round of this crap--who knows! Sulfonamides are one of the drugs that can cause a severe reaction."

For Sinusitis "Developed sinusitis with heavy pressure in ears, drainage, swollen throat/glands, etc. Prescribed Bactrim-DS for a seven-day course, twice daily. Within 12 hours, swelling was nearly gone, pain reduced to minimal. Did experience restlessness, sleeplessness, and some dehydration despite drinking a lot of water. Seems like it dealt with the infection itself, but still dealt with sinus problems (drainage, congestion in ears, and coughing due to drainage) for several days after. Bactrim is a sulfa product, so doc made sure I wasn't allergic before prescribing."

For Urinary Tract Infection "This antibiotic did horrible for me, it gives me bad migraines even though I drink a ton of water with it. I'm on the second day and have a horrible migraine. My spine hurts to walk, severe leg cramps, joint pain too. It's awful. I will know now to never take this again. My body did not react well. The side effects are not worth it. Next time, I will be sure to tell my doctor to never prescribe me this again!"

For Urinary Tract Infection "This is my first time commenting on any medicine. Anyway, I almost didn't even take this medicine because of all the bad reviews, but thank God I did!!! Please don't let these negative comments stop you from taking this medicine. The ONLY side effect I currently have is a bit of nausea, and that's only because I do not eat much as I am on a calorie-restricted diet. Maybe these people are having bad reactions because of an allergy to sulfa drugs, or it is just the symptoms of the really bad UTI. IDK... I'm on these pills and have 1 more day left, and it has brought my kidney pain down tremendously. I usually react badly to antibiotics, but not these, so thumbs up!"

For Infection Prophylaxis "I've been taking this pill for almost my entire life to help keep off bad infections, and it's been a miracle worker for me (I don't have any natural immunity, was born that way), so this pill helps me avoid any bad infections and thus far has worked great. I've never experienced any side effects from it."

For Bacterial Infection "This medicine is working for me, but it makes me feel horrible. I've been shaking, have had a rapid heart rate, nausea, extremely thirsty, chills (no fever), dizziness, and cold hands and feet. I did find that taking probiotics helps. It doesn't take away everything, but it helps with the nausea. The only reason I continue to take it is because the doctor said this could be MRSA."

For Bacterial Skin Infection "My doctor prescribed 10 days of Bactrim DS after he drained an abscess in my upper arm. It definitely worked to heal the infection, but with my last few doses, I broke out in hives and am itching all over my body. Use this with caution."

For Bacterial Skin Infection "I was prescribed Bactrim DS for a paronychia infection on my right index finger. There was no apparent abscess, so the doctor felt a script of Bactrim DS would do the job. After taking the first pill, I began to feel dizzy and nauseous. Over the next few days, I had barely any appetite and wanted to sleep all day. I felt like I could not get enough sleep. I was also extremely sensitive to the sunlight, which only enhanced my desire to sleep more. Overall, the infection did not appear to change in the 3 1/2 days on the antibiotic, but that is not to say it did not work. I just was not able to function on it, therefore I called my doctor for something else."

For Urinary Tract Infection "This medicine improved the quality of my life. I have interstitial cystitis. I have to use this twice a day for 20 years. It's hard when I change doctors to get it prescribed, but I always get it. I would not live with the pain of this disease if it was not for this medicine."

For Bacterial Skin Infection "I had an abscess that had been draining for about 6 days without end and finally went to the ER and had it lanced and packed. The ER doctor prescribed Bactrim DS. After two days, I became dizzy and nauseous and pretty much bedridden. Based on the reviews here and other sites, I have discontinued using the drug. (10-day dosage) The abscess has stopped draining and seems to be doing okay after taking the meds for 5 days. Also, the ER doctor failed to notice that my HBP med conflicts with this med. (Lisinopril) Next time, I will do more research. Normally, I do, but I felt so miserable, I assumed they knew better."

For Bacterial Skin Infection "I found that within a day of taking Bactrim, the infection got better, which was GREAT because I had had it for a while. I experienced a few side effects: dizziness, lack of energy, insomnia if I took the pill a few hours before bed (I found to overcome this, I took the pill just before going to sleep), and headaches, but they seemed to dissipate after 2-3 days."

For Acne "I had mild to severe back acne with constant breakouts on my chest and face. My dermatologist prescribed me this specifically for my back acne, but thank goodness it cleared up my face and chest! Before, on a scale of 1-10, my face and chest were around a 7, but after being on the medication, it's now a 1. My face/chest is now flawless, and my back is now only left with scars. My back acne was extremely terrible, but after using the medication for a few months, it stopped the breakouts and gave time for my skin to heal. I've used this medication for a little over one year now, and I do admit you have to be patient with the medicine. As long as you don't pick and touch your problem spots, then it should work nicely. I experienced nausea every morning when I take the medication and a loss in appetite, but it's not that bad."

For Bacterial Infection "I had taken the Bactrim 800/160 twice in a day as told. When I got it after my appointment and before bed. That night I was up until 6 am throwing up the medicine. I felt nauseous, confused, and my stomach hurt bad. I had food in my stomach, so I’m unsure why it acted this way, but I would never take it again."

For Acne "I have been taking this medicine for a week, and my pimples are significantly smaller, which is a plus because I've had severe acne for 3 years now. The only problem is that it gives me insomnia, sweats, headaches in the mornings, stomach sickness, and nausea. The side effects are brutal, and I'm considering finding another solution. This is the third acne medicine I've tried and has helped the most, but also affected me the most negatively."

For Bacterial Infection "My 83-yr-old father took only five (5) pills over the course of a few days and ended up in the hospital in acute renal failure and a 103-degree fever. This man was not on any medications prior to taking Bactrim DS and was still working. His kidney functions have not returned to normal, his blood platelets are critically low, his blood pressure is now elevated, as well as his blood glucose. His whole life has changed for the worse all because of five (5) Bactrim pills. I just hope he's on the road to recovery."
