For Sinusitis "Don’t believe everything you read here. I took this drug for a sinus infection I developed on a plane coming from overseas. Within four hours, I started feeling better. Took about five days until I felt completely well. When I went to see the doctor, I had a temperature of 100.3 and felt bad. This drug may not be for everyone, but it worked for me. No side effects."

For Bacterial Infection "Started on this sulfate antibiotic, Bactrim, 2 days ago for an infected sebaceous cyst. Several hours after taking the first pill, I developed a 102° fever, splitting headache, muscle aches... I thought I was coming down with the flu. The second day, the same thing happened... fever, muscle aches, severe headache again. Took some Tylenol and crawled into bed for the entire afternoon. I’m not going to take tonight’s pill and call the doctor in the morning for a different antibiotic. I’ve never had reactions like this to any antibiotics I have taken in the past."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Felt mild relief. Doc said it should be gone in 3 days, gave me enough to take it for 5 days in case it was not gone. I also experienced fevers and achiness. Not pleasant. Every day I had discomfort, and today I am out of it and feel terrible with my urinary tract symptoms again."

For Acne "My 16-year-old daughter died of heart failure from DRESS (drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms) due to Bactrim DS. Bactrim is one of the leading drugs to cause DRESS syndrome. The risk versus benefit is too high to use this wide-spectrum antibiotic for acne. There are safer alternatives. Please be cautious."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Bactrim DS, taken twice a day, has been effective for each UTI I’ve had. It covers a resistant strain of E. coli and has been effective all the times I’ve taken it. I just make sure to eat a meal prior to taking it, and I’m fine."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I also had similar experiences and side effects like lethargy, shaking, confusion slightly, severe fatigue, headaches, aches, and pains, but kept taking the medicine anyway because the pain of a urinary tract infection is much, much worse. I'd rather suffer for a short time with these symptoms than suffer with a bladder infection."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Fought a UTI for over a week and finally gave up and went to the doctor earlier today. He prescribed Bactrim DS twice a day for 10 days, and within an hour of my first dose, the pain was gone. I’d hardly been able to leave the bathroom for almost a full day, and all it took was one pill for me not to be absolutely miserable. I was an idiot for waiting and have had no unpleasant side effects."

For Bacterial Skin Infection "I started off with a cut near my mouth that got infected with Staph, which then spread to my mouth and throat. I could not eat for a week because of the terrible sores in my mouth. I was prescribed Cefidinir, and after being on that for 3 days, had no improvement, but as soon as they put me on Bactrim, it started clearing up within hours!"

For Diverticulitis "My doctor has me taking Bactrim DS daily for diverticulitis as what’s called a prophylactic, or a prevention of inflammation. It helps me very much as I have not had an inflammation in several years. You must take it every day. And of course, you must know whether or not you are allergic to any sulfa medications."

For Bacterial Infection "Took it twice like I was supposed to, in the morning and at night, and my head feels like I was drunk, kind of like I kept getting dizzy and feeling weird. I don't know, but I still don't feel right. I feel like puking and being sick. I went to the doctor and got amoxicillin instead, and I don't feel any better. I have a zoo trip tomorrow, and it made me feel awful and even worse. I still feel kind of drunk and dizzy, and like I may pass out, and I'm scared to fall asleep because I may die."

For Urinary Tract Infection "If you're sick, meds typically have at least one side effect you'll experience. It's a prescription drug, not a miracle homeopathic treatment found in nature. You need to follow instructions and be aware of the warnings given. Ex: DON'T DRINK ALCOHOL during the course of the med. You NEED TO EAT SOMETHING with most meds, and drinking lots of water (way more than normal) is important too. I don't eat/drink water enough on a regular basis, and I love alcohol, but if I'm on a med, I alter my lifestyle to relieve symptoms of an infection I felt were bothersome enough to go to the docs in the first place. I've had no issues with Bactrim/sulfa thankfully, and those who have might want to find out if they are allergic to it prior to writing a bad review. It's a VERY common drug allergy that shouldn't sway the opinions of those not allergic. If you happen to have severe side effects from this, or any, med please find out if you are allergic first and consider it a personal learning opportunity."

For Bacterial Infection "Bactrim has been the worst experience of my life. First, I was on the IV for PCP pneumonia, which cleared up with not many side effects, but once I went on the oral Bactrim, that all changed. My tongue is swollen and sore constantly. I have a hard time eating, and my stomach is torn up from it all the time. I have a hard time sleeping because of the crazy dreams, and it keeps me awake. And now I have developed a painful sore throat and swollen glands to the point I have trouble speaking. Eating has become awful! I hate this drug, and my doctor continues to prescribe it to me."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I've just taken my 3rd pill, and every time I take it, I feel extremely lousy. Terrible headaches, dizziness, blurry vision, shaky nervousness, some difficulty breathing, beginning to itch. I don't like this at all the way I feel. Just before I need to take the next dose, I'm feeling my old normal self, and then I take the Bactrim and, boom, I go downhill again. Told my doctor I quit, it's ruining the quality of my life."

For Bacterial Skin Infection "This is my third different antibiotic for a deep leg wound that was surgically debrided 4 weeks ago. I have taken Bactrim DS many times before for bladder infections with few side effects. This time I want to die. I ache all over. I am nauseated and haven't eaten anything except a few oranges for 4 days. I am drinking ginger ale and water. I can barely walk because of weakness. My cat even walks ahead of me and stops to look back at me every few steps instead of us racing. Lest anyone suggest I do not know how to take this med, I am a Registered Nurse, and there is no need to question my proper dosing regimen. If it weren't for the fact that I want to keep my lower leg and foot, I would toss this medicine in the trash."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Third day of medicine, but still having symptoms. Those of you who report adverse reactions and then go on taking the medicine should know that is not a good idea. I am allergic to several antibiotics, and my doc says stop taking at the first sign of any reaction as it can be very serious."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I will never take Bactrim again, despite the fact that it appears to have cleaned up my UTI. I was prescribed 6 pills, 2 per day for 3 days. By pill #2, I lost my appetite and felt very weak and tired. Went to bed very early. As I continued the medication, I developed many flu-like symptoms and spent the next 4 days in bed. Chills, achiness, lethargy, listlessness, extreme tiredness, brain fog, inability to stand up for very long without feeling woozy, not even able to sit up and do light work indoors. This medication had me flat in bed for 4 days straight. Two days after finishing the medication, I have still not regained my strength completely, although I am starting to normalize. I am typically a very active person who works outdoors every day. This one threw me for a loop - never again! I will ask for something else for a UTI."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I have recurring UTIs and have taken several different antibiotics for them. I was recently prescribed Bactrim DS. After taking the second pill, the aching, pain, and soreness was almost gone. It works better for me than Cipro, but you should always have a urine culture to be sure which antibiotic is best for you. Fortunately, I haven't had any terrible side effects. The only side effect is feeling a bit fatigued a few hours after taking Bactrim."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Had a bladder infection that I ignored, turned into a very painful kidney infection. Got a 3-day supply of generic Bactrim. Took first pill by 10 am with a ton of water throughout the day. Went to bed all day except to pee 100 times, and I was amazed that I felt way better by the next morning."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I have been on Bactrim DS for 7 days. After day 3, I began to notice a severe headache about 4 hours after taking the Bactrim. Now on day 7, I have not only had a headache, but light-headedness/nausea. With only 3 days left, I am going to continue the medicine. My urinary tract infection symptoms have improved finally after 5 days."

For Bacterial Infection "I took Bactrim 800 mg for acne. 30 mins after taking it, my vagina started burning intensely. I did take it and then get into my pool, so I thought it was from the chlorine. I got out, showered, and after a few hours, the burning subsided. I took another pill and once again the burning started intensely. I went to bed, slept through the night, woke up, and still have the symptom plus itchy eyes, face, and arms. I took Benadryl and I am praying for relief. When I spoke to my mother about these symptoms, she said she had the exact same reaction. Beware!"

For Bacterial Infection "Prescribed Bactrim for sore throat after taking Amoxicillin for 4 days (culture test indicated that Amoxicillin would not work for the bacteria found). At first, side effects included drowsiness, weakness, confusion, overall sluggishness, severe anxiety, rapid heart rate, and insomnia. I am on day 5 of 7 and have regained strength and have less confusion/drowsiness; however, the anxiety, increased heart rate, and insomnia are still present. I have woken up twice in the middle of the night with a rapid heart rate, anxiety, sweats, and an inability to fall back asleep. Hopefully, this will cease to be a problem once I complete the course. This antibiotic is definitely not for me, and I will opt for an alternative should I ever need it again. I gave it a 3 (instead of 1) because I believe it has helped with the infection; however, the side effects are awful for me."

For Bacterial Skin Infection "I was diagnosed with a staph infection and prescribed Bactrim DS. It has not had any effect on the infection after five days. In fact, it has gotten worse. It makes me shake, and I can't seem to think straight."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Took this for 3 days. 2nd day got severe itching on palms and soles of feet. Day three had uncontrollable shakes, heart racing, felt like it was going to come out of my chest, facial numbness, dizzy, very elevated (for me) blood pressure of 145/90, whole body tingling, dizziness, lightheaded, extremely intense nervousness, ringing in my ears."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Have taken Bactrim for frequent UTIs in the past with no side effects. Last night I took the first dose of Bactrim DS for yet another UTI; within 10 min, my vaginal area and lips were itching. Took antihistamine and went to bed. This morning my lower lip is very swollen/red, eyes are bloodshot, and have a round red rash on my upper arm. As the morning continued, I felt major flu-like symptoms: chills, fatigue, muscle/joint pain, headache - like death warmed over. Took aspirin for the pain and went to bed until the intense cold feeling left. The symptoms have abated except for the swollen lip, itchy eyes, and red rash. No idea why I had a reaction this time but will discuss it with my doctor. UTIs are bad enough without then getting very ill from the medication."

For Bacterial Skin Infection "I have had a staph skin infection in one form or another my entire life. Cellulitis, MRSA, staph... it’s all the same thing in one form or another. I know the formula that works every time for me. Doxycycline in conjunction with Bactrim, 2 times a day for 10 days. Bactrim has never worked by itself for me. Once you get that under control... buy some Hibiclens. Once a week, I wash myself with this in the shower after I have done my usual body cleansing with body wash or whatever. Once a week, I also put about 4 pumps of Hibiclens directly in a bath and take a bath. Have your doctor prescribe you Mupirocin ointment. Once a week, before bed, put a little of that ointment on a Q-tip and swab the inside of your nostrils out with that. That is prevention. It works. Because once you get a staph infection, some people will always get a staph infection."
