For Atrial Fibrillation "I have paroxysmal atrial fibrillation. When I don't feel normal (can't explain symptoms), my doctor ordered Rhythmol PRN. Prior to atrial fibrillation occurrences, I went to the ER. I am an 88-year-old retired ER RN. This prescription works within 2 hours of taking one tablet. On two occasions, once the atrial fibrillation stops, I have arrhythmia where my pulse is relatively normal, but with occasional skipped beats or occasional abnormal beats. My blood pressure drops and my pulse drops to 32 bpm. It gradually all returns to normal in 2 or 3 hours. This only happens with the two tablets."

Propafenone for Ventricular Tachycardia "I take 150 mg propafenone twice daily for prolonged VT. My heart has been steady for five months. But I now see that this drug should not be used if there is a heart conduction problem. I have both LBBB and RBBB. I can find no guidance on whether to keep on or stop it."

For Atrial Fibrillation "For the last three years I’ve been on propafenone 425 mg twice a day and metoprolol. The combination kept my AFib at bay until recently. My AFib has been awful the last month. I ended up in the ER last week. I’ve stopped alcohol and other triggers, but AFib still persists. I’m going to meet with my electrocardiologist to discuss a change of meds."

"I have been on Rythmol SR for two years. I take 425 mg twice a day along with Toprol and Warfarin. I am now feeling great, rarely have atrial fibrillation episodes. I no longer have the squeezing tennis ball feeling and chest throbbing at night, so I sleep better. I have observed no unwanted reactions. I am 77 years old."

For Ventricular Tachycardia "I take so many meds - Rhythmol, Coreg, levothyroxine, aspirin, statins - all of which have some of the listed propafenone side effects that I simply cannot know which is causing the effects or whether I have some other problems not shown in tests. I have paroxysmal ventricular tachycardia, CAD, one stent placed May 2010 RCA, hypothyroid, and God knows what else. I'm 85 and can still do 30 mins of aerobics daily and the same day feel sick as a dog. There must be thousands who cannot pinpoint their side effects. Come forward and comment please."

"I take propafenone 425mg ER twice a day for ectopics (PVCs). It is a good drug and has helped lower my PVC burden (3% +/- 1). I started taking it before my ablation, but I will remain on it for the foreseeable future due to my procedure not going as hoped. DO NOT take this medication if you have chronic bradycardia (unless you have a pacemaker). I was on flecainide before, but I prefer this medication because it provides the desired therapeutic effect with minimal side effects (metallic taste, constipation). AND it doesn't suppress my heartbeat too much when I exercise. It's worth a try, but start at a lower dose if you're taking the ER/SR version."
