"I've had restless leg for years now. I started getting it when I was 18 now I'm 40. I tried everything, the 30/500 Co-codomol did work. I did not want to take them long term, my doctor put me on pramipexole and they work great for me."

If I run out for a couple days, the restless legs and fidgities come right back. No negative side effects that I know of."

Mirapex (pramipexole) "This has really helped me. I have had RLS all my life off and on. The RLS is worse now, I am 74yrs. I have been on it almost a year. I believe I may be getting some side effects lately. I am so tired, and can't seem to think straight sometimes. I realize that could be from other things, but I am going to talk to my Doctor on next visit. It is a God send if you haven't slept for nights."

Mirapex (pramipexole) "I took Mirapex for a couple of months with my severe restless leg syndrome. It seemed to help but I would wake up in the middle of the night and in the morning before work and have severe nausea and vomiting. I am now taking Requip and it has been doing the same thing. "

"I started on pramipexole hydrochloride 6 years ago and at first suffered from jerking all the time. My head would always jerk to the left, my shoulders would jerk up and down and my legs shook all the time if I stood still or sat down. The recommended dosage didn't have any effect on the RLS at all and slowly the dose was raised. The jerking subsided after a few weeks and I was able to lead a happy life until a couple of months ago when it stopped working. It was wonderful for 6 years then over about a month it stopped having any effect whatsoever."

Mirapex (pramipexole) "I have been taking Mirapex for a couple of weeks now. It doesn't seem to be helping that much just yet. I was diagnosed with restless legs syndrome about 6 years ago, which was a problem at night time. In October, I suddenly started having severe symptoms during the day, so I went to my doctor and she put me on Mirapex 0.125mg a day. I have noticed that I will suddenly feel very sleepy at times, while I've just been completely alert, which I see might be from the medication. Hopefully, with time it will relieve my symptoms for good!"

Mirapex (pramipexole) "I have had mild RLS for about 20 years. But over the past 6 months, it's increased to the point of symptoms most nights. I was exhausted and sleep deprived so the doctor Rx Mirapex. It does work very well to control the RLS but I have been struggling with overeating! I have gained 6 lbs this month. I would describe it as, almost, not realizing how much I'm eating, not feeling full or satisfied, and eating though I'm not hungry. Feeling compelled, if that makes sense. Right now, I don't want to stop the Mirapex because it works so well for the RLS and I don't have any other side effects or problems, just overeating. I'll likely see what the doctor suggests and check out forums for some advice. My advice is if you want to try this drug, realize that you might get some behavioral side effects and have your family be aware it might be a possibility so it doesn't get out of hand."

"Made my RLS more tolerable for about a year then gradually made it worse. I saw some studies that called this augmentation. I was on a very low dose so I just quit taking it. Its only been a couple weeks but I'm doing better off the drug than on it."

"This is in regards to my 83 year old father in law (FIL) and his taking pramipexole. He was switched to this med from ropinerole due to the same issues I am about to discuss. The fine print of side effects are what he, and consequently my husband and I are now dealing with. "...strong urges (such as increased gambling, increased sexual urges)..." Oh boy, this doesn't even come close. He does not see the problem, but when he is on either of these meds he is so far past being a dirty old man, I am shocked he's not been arrested yet. He is also belligerent and cannot be reasoned with. I am in the process of trying to get him changed again to something else. So, just a warning, if anyone sees this in yourself or someone else taking this."

"After 15 years of nightly Vicodin, and a false start with ropinirole (Requip; it gave me horrible hot flashes, and I'm a guy!!), we tried pramipexole. That was my magic bullet! After two months on .25 milligrams nightly, my doctor asked me to up it to .365 mg, and that is where I have stayed. I take it an hour before bed only. It has been a miracle for me as far as RLS!"

"Started using pramipexole when weaning from zolpidem at sleep clinic. Long term insomnia complicated by shift work/school/age/family history. Pramipexole at 0.125mg/qd worked for about 9 months. Less effective if taken with food. Now, after a year, about 3 X week, first dose insufficient, so I take a second and that works. No side effects in gastrointestinal or balance/reaction time."

"The medication worked when I first started using it. I had a few side effects like dizziness upon standing and slightly blurred vision. After taking the medicine for over two years, the effectiveness to my RLS has waned considerably. I rarely have a night when I can sleep or even sit in a chair and watch television without my legs jumping. I am constantly having to change positions or get up and walk or basically try anything to alleviate the problem. Which doesn't always help."

"At 32 years old, long-term RLS, ADHD. 0.125mg - 0.250mg for over a year. Effective at reducing 80% of RLS symptoms and mood is improved the next day. The only downside is feeling a bit tired, slightly cognitively blunted, and experiencing some low blood pressure. Otherwise, very, very helpful in reducing the need to move and promoting more restful sleep."

"Restless Legs Syndrome in a nut-shell: Find your trigger. After a lot of experimentation, I've found that a number of things contribute to my RLS: -fatigue -iron-deficiency (possible other deficiencies) -anxiety -alcohol ... I'm sure there are more. In any case, I did try this medication as sometimes I can't determine the cause. It was awful! It made me restless throughout the night. I completely dried up. Finally, when the medicine started to wear off, I could barely move around from extreme fatigue as though I never slept. Sure it'll make you drowsy, but don't expect a goods nights rest. I've since found that fighting restless legs syndrome is best by fighting the above triggers."

Mirapex (pramipexole) "I have severe RLS that is a problem during the day as well as night time. I take Mirapex 0.25 mg twice a day, which greatly increases my comfort levels and the ability to hold relatively still. Note: I am confined to a wheelchair, with idiopathic polyneuropathy, along with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (and numerous additional diagnoses), and currently take 29 other prescription medicines, so I am unable to comment on side effects. I have tried other drugs for RLS, including Lyrica, Klonopin, Neurontin, and clonidine. For me, Mirapex and Lyrica relieve RLS far better than the others."

"I have been taking 0.125mg pramipexole for over 5 months to treat restless legs syndrome, which I have for more than 10 years. It does work, gives you peaceful sleep, feeling great in the morning, no side effects. However, the question is: does it really treat the problem completely? I don't think so. I decided to discontinue pramipexole to see if I can cope without it and all symptoms came back following night. It looks like that either you would have to take it for the rest of your life or fight with restless legs syndrome. Since nowadays pramipexole is an effective way to temporarily alleviate restless legs syndrome. I have no other option as to keep taking it and hope for the best. But I don't really want to take it for the rest of my life."

"This is a Godsend. Quite literally. I suffered Restless Legs from the age of 25, increasing from a minor irritation at nights out at the theatre, to a complete nightmare for sleeping. Pramipexole stops it. 100%. What a relief. And the only significant side effect has been some weariness during the day. I usually take one, very rarely two (at 4:00pm then at 10:00pm)."

"I have taken pramipexole and Requip for restless legs syndrome. Both are equally effective for me. There are other very good side effects that I get. Antidepressant qualities that I didn't need but I actually like. Also the sexual sides have been overwhelmingly positive. I have had no negative sides after the first few days. Oh, and my legs lay there like rocks and shut up instead of having to get up and walk around 3 times before falling asleep."

"My family doctor prescribed Pramipexole for me about 2 years ago after I had been having awful problems with restless legs for a few weeks. A few weeks after I started this med, I began to do a lot of shopping online, the UPS truck was a daily sight at my home, plus the mailman and another delivery truck. I was not getting any relief, talked with my doctor who referred me to neurologist. He asked me first thing, "how's the shopping". He prescribed generic Sinemet which is not working either. I have now got arm jerks, some difficulty walking. What is the answer?"

"Pramipexole helped me sleep with RLS. The problem is, I'm an addicted gambler. I have been to rehab. I still gamble. It has ruined my life. This should never be used by someone who has a gambling or over shopping tendencies as it is a side effect and can make it a whole lot worse. I have recently started taking cannabis and it takes the RLS away. Pramipexole/Gambling....makes me want to give up on living."

"I have been taking Sifrol for 4 months for RLS caused by another med I'm on. It certainly worked. I've just weaned off it after speaking to a pharmacist (don't they often know way more than doctors by the way?) who said I could try magnesium tablets/day for RLS as he had many patients who had success with this. Thinking it would not work I tried it and to my amazement it worked the very first night. I realise everyone is different and it may or may not work for you. I'm experiencing severe withdrawals from Sifrol, the most disturbing is insomnia, I'm getting about 2 hours sleep a night. Also foggy headed, ANGRY and dizzy, headaches. For goodness sake GPs please please please don't just stick us on meds when you haven't done your research on less harmful things that may help. Yes, I'm angry......but grateful to have found that pharmacist. Once these withdrawals are over I'll be even more grateful."

"My doctor gave me this when I told him about my RLS. It's been coming on gradually and now I can hardly stand it. It's agonizing and I'm fed up. At first it made me not feel good. But I also take Gabepentin and Celexa. I take one 0.25 mg every night. I'm shocked to hear it might cause impulse control. That's a problem for me because I used to gamble. I haven't for years but you don't have to gamble to have impulse control issues. I'm wondering if I need to up my dose. I have quit methadone for pain. I broke my neck and have taken every pain med known to man. I took it for at least 13 years. Only 10mg per night. So now doctors can't prescribe methadone long term. So I was forced to get off it and now I have so much pain, all over my body. Add the RLS on top of all that. So having RLS definitely reduced my quality of life. I'm so hopeful this works for me. I'm on my 4th or 5th month I think and I've gotten used to it as far as the nausea and feeling icky. I just wish it worked better!"
