"I'm on my 3rd try on this medicine. It significantly reduces my deep sleep, which means it may be reducing my ability to clean out unwanted discharge in my brain. Seems worse if I take a pill at night. I'm going to try pills in the morning only, delayed action, and possibly the patch. In my case, I'm not sure it's worthwhile taking."

"The drug memantine appears to slowly reverse or control the conditions of forgetfulness as well as some despair. It helped me to perform adequately in all cognitive matters. It, however, should not be taken while using alcohol, as it tends to cause dreams or hallucinations while sleeping. A serious side effect is low back pain, which caused me to seek medical attention related to back pain and arthritis. Overall, it was hoped that this medication would restore me to PR diagnosed onset of dementia. The drug was well tolerated with or without food."

Memantine "Mom has taken it since 2007. Wish it was a time-release medication. Too hard to get Alzheimer's patients to take medicines even once a day. It does help but may cause dehydration."

"Wife has moderate Alzheimer's and has been taking memantine for 8 months. As most people who live with Alzheimer's or care for someone who has this wicked disease know, it is difficult to assess the effectiveness of specific medications. I believe memantine helps because she is less likely to become depressed now and seems to be more alert."
