For Folate Deficiency "I have suffered from depression for 20+ years. I stumbled across a gene mutation called MTHFR and decided to do more research. Here is what is very important: if you have this gene mutation, then, in some form, your body does not break down folate, aka folic acid. Folic acid is imperative to serotonin levels, which affect your mood and sleeping patterns. If your body cannot produce serotonin, then taking a serotonin-based medication will never work. You are asking your body to produce more serotonin, and it can't do it; it can't produce more because it isn't able to. For people who have this gene mutation, which is a 1:2 ratio, having a supplement is important. Folic acid is broken down 8 times to reach the effective type, and my body cannot break down the first 7, so Deplin is essential for me."

For Depression "I was diagnosed with depression 11 years ago. I can't remember all of the antidepressants I've been on, but for the last 5 years I've been on Wellbutrin 450mg. My psychiatrist prescribed Mirtazapine for its energizing effects when on high doses. It didn't work for me; then he prescribed Deplin 15mg. I took it for 6 weeks. I could not tell a huge difference, so I didn't refill my prescription right away. (It's expensive since insurance won't cover it!) After I stopped, my energy/motivation decreased, so I started taking it again. I've been on it for about a week now and have seen an increase in my energy again, but the motivation is still not as high as it should be. Hopefully, it will get better the longer I'm on it."

For Folate Deficiency "If I could rate it a million I would! I have the double MTHFR gene mutation and this has been life-changing for me. I felt better within days of taking this medication. I have been on Lexapro for years, but when I started taking oral birth control pills, I was constantly crying, having panic attacks, and overall so anxious with a constant pit in my stomach. Even when I was still on the birth control pills, I noticed a huge difference from this medication, and even more now that I have stopped taking those. MTHFR shouldn't be ignored like I did for years. I pay $199 for a 90-day supply because it's that important to my quality of life (my insurance doesn't cover it). Seriously, give it a try!"

For Depression "I have been on Deplin for over a year now. At first, I was on 7.5 mg and that was helpful, but when that stopped working, the Psych doctor increased the dosage up to 15 mg and it really works. What it does is helps your other antidepressants work better. Deplin will affect each person differently depending on which antidepressant you are taking."

For Depression "My child has been on antidepressants for three years. I read about MTHFR gene mutations and felt this might be the case with my daughter. Her psychiatrist recommended a trial of Deplin rather than testing since Deplin would be the treatment. The results are nothing short of amazing. I have my daughter back!"

For Folate Deficiency "Has changed my life, both physical autoimmune, genetic, hormonal disorders have improved and mental health PTSD, ADHD, RBD-Dyslexia have improved. I wish I had known about my mutation in childbearing years as I lost five pregnancies. My only daughter was the one I had morning sickness with and didn't take prenatal multivitamins."

For Depression "I just took my second dose of Deplin. I love the fact that there are no side effects. I went all through the day without getting so angry at someone I would get an anxiety attack. It's a start and I'm hoping I can return to my normal self. Wish me luck."

For Depression "I started taking Deplin 2 months ago in addition to the 300 mg of Wellbutrin I had already been taking for several years. I was experiencing a very low level of chronic depression but generally okay. The doctor recommended I try Deplin to see whether it would increase my level of well-being. I could swear I feel a lot more depressed with the Deplin. Nothing has changed in terms of lifestyle over the past few months, so I can't think of any other explanation. Needless to say, I'm going to stop taking it. I had no idea it might worsen my symptoms."

For Folate Deficiency "MTHFR with some bipolar, previous ADHD, and OCD diagnoses. Started taking Deplin with B12 (methyl folate) - be sure to take both - and seeing great results. Mood improved greatly and performance overall. Couldn't imagine life without it!"

For Depression "I added Deplin 15 mg to a 150 mg dose of Wellbutrin when the Wellbutrin no longer worked as well. It did help for a few days, but then I developed severe muscle weakness, stiffness, and pain, particularly in my neck and shoulders. It was bad enough that I could not turn my head or look up or down without great discomfort. It kind of felt like I had whiplash. I did some research and found that the muscle pain can be a side effect of both medications. I have not ever had this problem on Wellbutrin alone, so I'm inclined to think the Deplin caused this. I quit taking both medications because I couldn't function with the pain and stiffness any longer, and two days later, the pain is still there but is slowly subsiding."

For Hyperhomocysteinemia "Having the MTHFR C677T double mutation, I started taking Deplin in August of 2016. I had very high homocysteine levels and felt awful for a long time. I started on 15 mg and moved down to 7.5 mg. My homocysteine has balanced out to consistent normal. My energy levels are way up. My B12 came down in huge leaps and bounds and is now stabilized."

For Depression "I have been taking Deplin for 18 days, and I do notice a slight change in my depression, brain fog, and energy levels. I think it is being inhibited by my Adderall withdrawal, but I am hoping it is helpful since I've tried many medications and nothing has really helped."

For Depression "I hope this helps to all the depressed people out there. I have been seeing a psychiatrist for drug-induced depression. I abused meth, Vicodin, coke, and any other drug you can think of for years, and that has left me a basket case. I have tried many antidepressants, but I suffer too many adverse reactions to the stronger stuff. I am currently on 300mg Wellbutrin and 15 mg Deplin, and I have to say I feel GREAT! However, I had taken the Wellbutrin/Deplin combo in the past, and it stopped working for me after 6 months. The results with the antidepressants were a little funny because I went back to abusing Vicodin. Now I am clean of any drugs and just taking what is prescribed by my doctor, 300mg Wellbutrin and 15 mg Deplin."

For Depression "Have taken Paxil for years, had a poop out with the Paxil, so the doctor added Deplin 15 mg, that did not work, had lots of confusion, out-of-touch feelings. I cut the Deplin back to 7.5 mg, and in three days, it is doing the same thing as the 15 mg. I would assume if you had a folic deficiency, it would work. However, I must have enough, and this just overloads my system. Not for me, cannot get off of it fast enough."

For Folate Deficiency "I just started Deplin today! I've been reading people's comments, and half say it's helped them, and half have not. I've also researched it and have read so many different articles. From my understanding, you should start off at a low dose, and if that doesn't help, then take more. If the dosage is too high or low and you're not feeling better, adjust it. I personally wouldn't give up after trying it one time at one dose. This medicine has changed people's lives into feeling like a normal, happy person with energy. I personally hope it works for me, and I feel better! I'm not giving up! Try to research it before giving up. I wish everyone good luck with Deplin."

For Depression "Update to my previous post: I've now been taking Deplin for close to a year. It serves as an add-on to my antidepressant meds. It hasn't been a magical booster to improve my severe, resistant depression as well as my horrible anxiety. However, over a year's time, Deplin has helped me feel just enough better to justify its cost. A very subtle improvement that is difficult to describe. I'm glad that I stuck with it; not at all noticeable until at least 9 or 10 months. And that time frame (for subtle change) isn't acceptable if you are miserable. But I was improving just enough with my other meds to allow me to continue taking Deplin-just in case it began making a difference ....whenever? Plus, my doctor told me it was good for my overall health, regardless if it touched the depression. This made it easier for me to continue taking it despite feeling no benefit for a long time."

For Folate Deficiency "I also have anxiety disorder. 20 mg Prozac, 0.05 Klonopin. My doctor kept telling me to take it, take it, but I've always resisted. Anyway, I'm taking it. I can't tell you how good I feel, although I didn't really know why. I didn't understand how lacking something in my body could affect the drugs I take or just my overall health. I feel great for the first time in a long time. Don't hesitate."

For Depression "I started taking Deplin yesterday and recently tapered myself off of Cymbalta and Wellbutrin. I still have the Cymbalta withdrawal 'brain zaps,' but have regained my crying reflex that I lose every time I get back on medication. I have been pregnant several times and needed to come off all medications for the duration. Today I had more natural energy than I've had in a long time. I had been taking Hydroxycut just to get myself moving and to the gym as I had reached my maximum weight of 188 last week. Now I don't feel like I need it anymore. My OCD is almost non-existent now. I can complete multiple tasks without spending an eternity detailing every aspect of a small task. This is how I feel after day 2, hopeful this will continue."

For Depression "I thought I would share my experience, as it may be helpful to others. I have been on this for over 2 years now... and depression-wise (which is what I'm basing my rating off of because that is what this rating is supposed to pertain to), it hasn't done anything for me at all. At least nothing at all that I have ever noticed. I have stayed on the medication because of the fact it does help bring down my homocysteine levels. I have a condition referred to as MTHFR. Basically, it's a liver enzyme condition that makes it so the body doesn't convert proteins/peptides very well. Common condition (1/10 Americans) but rarely tested for. The lab had to look up what to do for drawing blood and testing for it."

For Depression "I have a genetic mutation which lowers my body's ability to convert folic acid into its active form, but had never been prescribed Deplin for my bouts with depression and lifelong insomnia. This spring, my mood started to decline and my sleep was worse. At one point, I was taking three medications for sleep. I told my new psychiatrist about my old genetic test results regarding folic acid, and he thought I should try 15 mg of Deplin. Within two weeks, my sleep improved dramatically - I was able to discontinue a sleeping medication, and within 3-4 weeks, my mood also became much more stable and consistent. I've now been taking Deplin for almost six months and have been able to discontinue another sleep medication (I still take one for sleep). Although I still get short bouts of lower moods, they are nothing compared to what they were prior to Deplin. I tried at least five add-on antidepressants prior to Deplin with no results. I had no side effects, and it's very easy to take - a real lifesaver!"

For Depression "I have been on Deplin 15 mg for about 3.5 months. I have the mutation and was hopeful that this would help. I noticed no change whatsoever in my anxiety or depression. I also started having severe joint pain, and nothing had changed but adding Deplin. My doctor recommended that I stop the Deplin. I have been off for 3 days and continue to have joint pain. Would love to hear from others with a similar experience."

For Folate Deficiency "I started taking Klonopin after several years of depression, two bouts of major depression, and tension myositis syndrome (TMS). It helped the TMS a great deal, but after about a year, symptoms of major depression and anxiety returned. The psychiatrist wanted to prescribe more Klonopin, and when I declined that, she recommended Deplin. Deplin has helped. I now am able to wake up in the morning, and the speed of thought is almost normal. I still have mood instability, but symptoms have decreased. I also have been able to significantly reduce the use of Klonopin and hope to be off it completely as Deplin therapy continues."

For Depression "I had the swab genetic test done. I lack the MTHFR gene that creates the enzyme that breaks down folic acid to folate. Without folate, depression is very likely. My doctor prescribed Deplin, as it would take 60 bottles of over-the-counter folate to equate to the convenient orange capsule. The first three weeks, my depression and anxiety got worse. My doctor wasn't helpful, but I kept taking it. I’m around week 5, and I am able to see my compulsive eating as not good for me, as I am morbidly obese. I don't feel overly happy, but more in control in a chaotic world and able to focus more. I'll chat with my doctor about getting off Lamictal once I've had a couple of months on Deplin. I am far less paranoid and explosive, but I have routine scary dreams being out of control. I can't put my finger on it, but I think I am better off with Deplin and apprehensive to go off it. This is not the placebo effect talking. I think I can lose weight and get off the bipolar meds. I pay $160 for a three-month supply."

For Depression "I have had a partial response to my antidepressant. I have had a hard time finding one as my chemistry responds unfavorably to many drugs. Deplin was advised by my doctor, who has actually participated in clinical trials. She had seen no adverse effects and thought it would work great for me. On the 3rd day, I felt like my old self for the first time in 1 year. Unfortunately, that night I had auditory hallucinations... first time in my life... and a very restless night. Went off and slept okay. Tried just doing folic acid and Vitamin B6 and had the same response, only worse. Didn't sleep the whole night. Both my psychiatrist and psychologist say I am the only person who they have ever seen have a negative reaction. Like I said, I felt great. Good luck."

For Depression "I've been on Deplin for 20 days now, along with Zoloft. I had great success with Cymbalta, but it messed badly with my blood pressure (going from 112/65 to 175/100), so I had to go off it. I was put on Zoloft as a stopgap, but have tried it in the past without much success, as with all the others. They say it can take 4-6 weeks before Deplin has its full effect. I'm still hopeful, but I do so wish I'd seen the overnight change like others."
