Itraconazole for Onychomycosis, Toenail "Tried Diflucan and terbinafine, which ended up with me vomiting and diarrhea and no success. Sporanox is a lifesaver. No side effects at all, feels like I'm eating candy. I'm at 2 months of treatment, and I have to keep going because I had some relapse, but right now it seems it's going away once and for all! Let us hope!"

For Blastomycosis "I started a high dose. Had to stop as my liver and kidney levels went high. Then a couple of weeks later, started me again on 1 dose twice a day. Day 3, feeling sick, headaches, numbness, tingling in hands, tired, just not myself at all. I just sent another message to my doctor to see what to do. Also, I keep feeling like my heart is racing. I’m not liking it. That is, my body is not liking it."

For Dermatophytosis "On my 5th day of itraconazole for a severe fungal scalp infection that I have suffered with for the last 12 months. It’s starting to look like it’s finally clearing up, the side effects haven’t been too bad, mostly just an upset stomach and loss of hunger. But I think that could be more based on my anxiety disorder than itraconazole. Hopefully, the side effects eventually get easier."

For Histoplasmosis "Itraconazole literally saved my life. I had a life-threatening case of pulmonary histoplasmosis disseminating to my liver. Thankfully, my infectious disease doctor caught it in time and started me on a pulsating dose of itraconazole while in the hospital. I stayed on a maintenance dose of 100 mg for two years and just now got off. I had zero side effects other than being a bit tired, but it was worth it. I highly recommend this drug for histo patients."

For Onychomycosis, Toenail "My mother (73) took this medicine for toenail fungus, and within a couple of weeks, her ankles had swollen up, and there was a large red rash on the legs. I think it should NOT be used on seniors. Two weeks later, after suspending the medicine, she cannot put her shoes on, and the rash persists. We are concerned there have been irreversible effects. AVOID this medicine."

For Aspergillosis, Invasive "After 18 months of antibiotics, antifungal, sputum and blood tests, and steroids for aspergillosis, I was prescribed itraconazole capsules two months ago. I am feeling better already and am hoping there is finally some relief. Less coughing, sleeping better."

For Dermatophytosis "I have used Itraconazole for about 3 months. Even though the medicine worked on my skin, I had really bad side effects. I was constipated and didn't get my period for the whole 3 months I was taking the medicine."

For Onychomycosis, Toenail "I was put on this for toenail fungus. After taking it for two weeks, 200 mg a day, I had to stop. The side effects are bad: no interest in anything, feeling sad, crying. Tried, so I don't know if it works or not. Had to stop, the side effects are so bad."

For Tinea Versicolor "Used selenium sulfide and ketoconazole for almost a year, and it just did not work. I went to a private dermatologist, and she prescribed me itraconazole for 7 days, 2 to take daily. After that, she told me to use the shampoos once a week to keep it away. In summertime, my skin did not see a spot of the infection! (This is from the UK)"

For Blastomycosis "I have been taking it for 6 months. I was very ill when I first started. I almost died. I have to take it for at least one year. The side effects are not fun, my hair is falling out, my neuropathy has gotten extremely worse, my hands get very blue and loose feeling, my balance is being affected, I am very tired, my joints are very painful, and my eyesight has been affected. With all that said, if it is helping get the Blastomycosis out of my system, keeping me out of the hospital, not on a ventilator, I guess I am willing to put up with the multitude of side effects. I take the liquid form, 20 mg two times a day. So far, the scans of my lungs have shown much improvement. I just hope that the side effects will diminish when I stop taking the drug."

For Histoplasmosis "I was treated with this antibiotic for 3 miserable months. It worked. However, my side effects ranged from developing alopecia, feeling extremely exhausted all the time, pins-and-needles sensation that caused permanent nerve damage, and the list goes on."

"I'm suffering from Tinea Cruris for over 3 months now. Tried different remedies. None of them worked. Tried topical creams such as Clotrimazole, Dactarin, and Lamisil. None of them brought any relief. After consultation with my GP, I took a liver function blood test, and when the results came back satisfactory, I was prescribed 200 mg of Sporanox/Itraconazole for 1 week. No effect was noticed during the drug course, although after a few days, the fungus started to disappear from my penis head. A week later, everything came back with a 'double kick', the rash from my groin did not go at all. Everything is the same. Side effects: After the course, I felt very tired and nervous, but this went away after a couple of days. Now I have to look for some other solution!!!"

For Dermatophytosis "What started out as a misdiagnosed flea bite turned into the spreading of lesions all the way from my ankles to my shoulders (and everywhere in between). So far, this medication has appeared to stop (day 12, 100 mg a day for 15 days) the spread, reverse the skin color to its original color, and bring the inflammation down. HOWEVER, beware the emotional effects. My (otherwise) physically healthy body, exercise-loving, outdoors type of motivated personality has crumbled into a short, anxiety-ridden temper, who is constantly irritable and fearful. It has also modified my appetite in a negative way. Good luck."

For Systemic Fungal Infection "I do have to say this is a VERY potent antifungal. I usually use Diflucan with minimal side effects. My first derm put me on this for Malassezia folliculitis. It was supposed to be 30 days, and I barely made it to 15. First, it made my cycle start 17 days early. I thought that would be my cycle for the month, but nope, it still came when it was supposed to. I had horrible nightmares and barely slept. Woke up jittery every morning and just felt like I wanted to sleep all day long because I lacked sleep from the night before. I didn't really have much of an appetite and would just make myself eat because I knew I needed to. I had the worst headaches, blurred vision, and would occasionally feel dizzy. It did calm the horrible symptoms I was having, but my 2nd derm took me off of them because he felt the dose of 200 mg a day for 30 days was really bad on my liver. I feel it's totally worth the side effects if you want quick relief. But honestly, be prepared for some tear-jerky, anxious days."

For Blastomycosis "Two rounds of 6 weeks a year apart, because Blasto can come back, saved my Standard Poodle's life. Sporanox attacked the fungus, along with eye drops, out of one of his eyes. The other eye was lost to the fungus. He was symptomatic on his skin, in his eyes, lungs, prostate and joints. Age 2, he lived to 14 1/2 and was healthy."

For Dermatophytosis "Started a course of 50 mg twice a day itraconazole, developed a mild to moderate headache every time I had a dose. Drinking a lot of water and having some food helped in reducing the headaches. However, a mild headache persisted throughout the day. I stopped taking the medicine after 5 days due to the headache, and now I am relying on a topical antifungal agent for a yeast infection. Did not have any other side effects, however, headache persisted throughout the day."

For Tinea Capitis "I was prescribed this medication for tinea corporis, and I was taking another brand for 2 months, and it wasn’t working too well. The fungal infection was controlled but not improving or going away, after which the doctor prescribed me the same medication from a different brand, but this time a lesser dosage, and it worked like a charm. But it brought along a lot of side effects - excessive sweating, tiredness, disturbed sleep (can only sleep 4 hours a day), and the WORST side effect (for women) my periods completely stopped, and because of which my hormones went out of whack, and I got insane cystic hormonal acne, which I have never had in my life. Nor have I ever missed a period. I just can’t wait to get it done with because I’m so tired of waking up to 3/4 pimples every single day."

For Dermatophytosis "I've been on this for 6 days, 100 mg per day, cleared my fungal infection on feet, but side effects were sore throat, runny nose, cold symptoms, feeling tired, joint pain, and mild abdominal pain. You should take this after a full meal."
