"My iron was severely low. They started me on Venofer. 5 treatments every other day. My BP was normal before the treatments. I have no other health issues. After the treatments, my BP is high. I sure hope this levels out and my BP goes back to normal. Anyone else experience this?"

"I just had my 3rd of 5 Venofer infusions today. That was 3 this week, and I'll have another two next week. After the 1st infusion, I felt really energetic all day, with no side effects. That feeling did not last, but I am already more energetic than I've been in months. After the 2nd infusion, still no side effects, but did not notice the same burst of energy. After this 3rd infusion today, I felt kind of lunk-headed (not a headache, but my head felt kind of heavy for a few hours until I napped). My doctor says my energy will continue to improve over the next few weeks. But I'm already impressed. I'm not out of breath anymore just from climbing the stairs or getting groceries. I stopped craving ice. I'm feeling less irritable with my family. Getting more of my daily chores done without getting a headache from exertion. Sleeping well. I just wish I had not waited so long to do this."

"Had 1 and only 1 treatment. I could only walk about 25 steps, felt faint, collapsed in the middle of the lobby of the clinic. An ambulance came, then I really got scared. The men could not pick me up! I had lost all muscle control, my body was like a water balloon. I had no control, I couldn't hold my head up. They couldn't keep my head up, it just flopped on my shoulder. I was so scared I'd stay that way. It took 4 big men to put me in a wheelchair, my body flopping like a water balloon. Once in the gurney, my legs and arms were falling out of the restraints. But the worst, omg, was that I was thinking, ok, pretty normal, but my mouth-I was swearing like a drunk sailor, a really bad sailor. Everybody was laughing, but I couldn't stop, and I normally only swear when mad. I was so scared, so scared. Once at the hospital, they thought I did drugs. I don't, so they put me in the glass room. I couldn't stop the vulgar language, this lasted about 7 hours. Never ever again."

"Right after my infusion of Venofer, I stood up and both legs felt extremely wobbly. After the nurses checked it, they said I could leave, but if no improvement in two hours, to call the doctor. I just got on the elevator to leave, and I got heart palpitations, sweats, tremors, and extreme weakness feeling as if I was going to pass out right there in the elevator. Luckily, I was still in the hospital, so they wheeled me to the ER and ran fluids through me, and after a couple of hours, I recovered. I had this infusion once before and all that happened was nausea and muscle aches. It helped me tremendously, so much so, that I'll put up with the side effects just to get to feeling better."

"I have a disorder that causes me to lose lots of blood. I was given Venofer, and I still have several side effects, so why can’t someone be accountable for this? I was not told about any side effects. I have a severe headache, I can’t eat without running to the bathroom with diarrhea, I had hair loss, I have an awful cough, heart pains, blurred vision, and worse bloody nosebleeds, so why can’t something be done."

"I underwent my first infusion this morning, which took 4.5 hours to complete. Upon leaving the infusion center, I noticed that my urine was very dark. After returning home, I started to feel cold, with chills and body aches. I took a nap, and after getting up, my temperature was 100.2°F. My second infusion is scheduled for two weeks from now, and I will evaluate the situation to determine if I should proceed with another infusion, depending on how quickly these symptoms pass."

"My daughter just finished her 5th 200 mg dose of Venofer. She completed the 5 doses in 21 days. After the first two doses, a slight headache. She drank water and laid down for an hour. The last 3, she said she felt fine. We are just waiting now for the 4 weeks for new labs to be taken."

"I’m a dialysis patient who is receiving Venofer through injection in treatments. I experience nausea, a vomiting sensation as soon as one drop hits my system. It sends a signal to my smell sensors, which makes me smell old pancake syrup and then begins to turn my stomach into a violent expulsion machine. If this is a side effect that could be harmful, I would like to know what to do."

"Have had iron infusions in the past every 4 years since having a gastric bypass. I suspected Venofer was not what I was given in the past, but was assured it was what I needed and did so reluctantly. Wish I had not! Was given Venofer for an hour and a half. I was not observed for any length of time. Hours later at home, chills, sweating, pain in every joint. Back pain and throbbing in my kidneys that lasted a day and a half. A week later, I'm still dizzy and have fallen 3 times! Still feel tired and weak. Labs next week to see if I need another infusion. It won't be this!"

"I’ve had 3 iron infusions of Venofer. First round I had it alongside a steroid. I had no reactions and no side effects. Infusion took a few hours with 30 mins of observation at the end. Not sure what rate it was infused at, but I know the speed really can make a lot of difference. Mine were definitely on the slow side. First one took close to 5 hrs in total. The second and third I didn’t need the steroid and I was out in under 3 hrs. I’m a couple weeks out of number 3, so 5 weeks from the first infusion, and my VO2max is steadily climbing. I feel pretty good overall. Not out of breath as I have been in the past. I can’t tell if my endurance / stamina is greatly improved as I’m on other meds that cause fatigue. But all in all the iron infusions were easy peasy. Only side effect I noted, and not sure if this is normal, but my urine went from clear (well hydrated) to a brown hue by mid infusion. This went away shortly, but thought it was interesting anyway."

"In January 2023, I had this iron injector and was told it was what I had in the past, but it was not. Within three weeks, I had constipation, then chest pain, feeling a lump in my throat, shortness of breath, headache, and back pain that won't go away. Is anyone else having these issues?"

"9 a.m. today was my first Venofer IV infusion. I was nervous, but the staff was amazing. Almost immediately, I started getting itchy. My arm was covered in red blotches. The infusion stopped, and IV Benadryl was given. Almost immediately, a sense of relief. Re-hooked up Venofer and had no reaction. I was continuing to drink fluids throughout treatment. Once in the car, I wasn't driving, I grabbed a granola bar and was asleep before I finished it. Got home and slept on the couch. Woke up overheating and sweaty. I feel nauseous, restless, and hungry. This was 1 of 6 doses. Will be one week apart."

"Worst experience ever. I was fine during the infusion. I had the reaction during the observation time. Hands swelled up, vomiting, pains in leg that I couldn't walk. I will never get that again."

"I was injected with Venofer in January this year, a day after I delivered my baby. I was told nothing of this drug, so I didn’t want it. They insisted that I get it, and since then, even now still, I have been experiencing terrible headaches, dizziness, muscle aches and joint pain, hives, edema, blurry vision, shortness of breath, excruciating pain around the injection site, and then some. I never experienced any of these symptoms before in my life, and now my body is screwed up. I don’t know for how long. Hope it goes away soon."
