For Nausea/Vomiting "Went to the ER for uncontrollable vomiting and stomach pain. Haldol was the second try (injection) to improve my symptoms. I am shocked reading all of these other experiences because of the similarity to my case. The Haldol helped with the nausea and vomiting, but oh my goodness, the body cramps and restlessness. My entire body was a giant charley horse contorting all over the table, and I couldn't stop it. Crying in pain. They finally gave me something else, which toned it down some, but no way would I ever want to go through that again. I'm sorry for those who have experienced it. It's horrendous :("

For Nausea/Vomiting "Experiencing horrible nausea/vomiting with Dilaudid for pain associated with Stage 4 breast cancer. My normal anti-nausea medication was Zofran, but it started to not work. I was given 0.5 mg I.V. of Haldol every hour for nausea. It worked, but did 'knock me to nap' for a little while. After I woke up, I did feel groggy and was able to eat and drink without incident."

For Mania "I was homeless and sleeping on a park bench after dropping out of college. Woke up one day in a psych ward. I had slept a good 10 hours, having been in a bed for the first time in months. Then a younger nurse walked into my room, waking me with a pill and a Dixie cup of water, saying, 'Here, this will help you feel better.' I took the pill and fell back asleep for two hours. When I woke, I tried to speak, and my lower jaw went into spasms, and I lost control of my tongue as it started lolling on my chin, almost like a dog's. I was unable to form words without a working tongue for two hours. 1995"

For Psychosis "Very, very effective. Would recommend. Helpful medicine for psychosis and mania. Helps with delusions, paranoia, and voices, and all that comes with a psychotic episode. Only downside is a feeling of anxiety and having to move around and can't sit still for too long when on this med, but it is a very effective medication."

"This pill is not for the weak. I started using it in 2020. 0.5 mg felt like nothing, 1 mg felt somewhat better, but I thought it could be more effective, and it doesn't last long. So, I take 1 mg twice a day. It helps a lot, those thoughts about 'what if' are about 60% gone thanks to this medicine. I am now taking 5 mg a day. I plan never to stop. Side effects I experienced include small tics in my legs/restless legs, extreme tiredness - like oh my, I could sleep for 18 hours a day (not anymore due to being awake from sertraline), and weight gain. Please don't let these reviews scare you. In low doses, it's truly a good medicine."

For Psychosis "Definitely am less violent on this medication, but feel mentally weak. Overall, it makes my emotions handleable and stops me from going to jail. I am diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder, PTSD, and ASPD."

For Tourette's Syndrome "The Haldol worked great for controlling my Tourette's, but it came with too many side effects, so I had to switch. I gained ten pounds in the first week of use, which tapered off after around three weeks, but the restlessness was unbearable. I was put on Cogentin for it, but then my vision became blurry and could not see anything within eighteen inches. It was horrible."

For Mania "I was given one injection of this with Benadryl by a nurse whom the doctor in charge did not grant permission to administer the medications. I was sleeping in the ER after four days, was woken up by the nurse, and told I was a nuisance to him, and he and three other male orderlies in the ER told me they were sick of seeing me there. I told him I might have a seizure if it's a drug that wasn't my current medicine, and he said he didn't care. Ten minutes or less, I had a seizure, and the hospital then released me. I found out they were ill-equipped to deal with seizures in the specific ER. What a total waste of time! Haldol was horrible for me. Would never recommend!"

For Mania "Was given this crappy drug last summer at the hospital in the psych ward, and everyone was terrified of me! I got an injection, so I had to go through a MONTH of this horror. I had insanely slurred speech, my voice sounded more high-pitched and tired, I slept ALL DAY, I had terrible akathisia, night terrors, nobody wanted me around, I was more anxious than usual, and I wanted to die for relief. The side effects wore off completely 20 days after I took it on the first of August 2020. Never taking this drug again. I’m on Zoloft and Valium right now, so much better. As for this crap, 0/10. Smh."

For Psychosis "Haldol gave me extreme akathisia that I couldn’t bear, so I had to go off of it. Wasn’t on it long enough to experience many other side effects that could come with it, but I will say it helped with my paranoid thoughts a bit, but also made me feel drunk and not myself."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I went to the ER for stomach cramping and tenderness after a bout of stomach flu. For some reason, they used this instead of Zofran or Phenergan first. I had horrible side effects. Every muscle in my body spasmed to the point of nearly dislocating my jaw. It took a full 36 hours to leave my system. Benadryl helped, but did not reverse the effects. I was disoriented and screaming in pain only a few seconds after receiving it. Use caution. The side effects were not worth it."

For Nausea/Vomiting "Still felt nauseous after being given this drug after surgery. I woke up extremely sick and vomiting. This was the third drug given to help combat these effects. I didn't know I'd been given it, but my heart started racing and concerned the nursing staff, and their concern made me anxious. I was so scared and paranoid about what was happening to me, which I later found out was all because of this drug. They ended up flushing it out of my system."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I was given Haldol for stomach pain. Why in the heck they gave me this drug I don't know why, I told the nurse it made me feel weird, and I did not like it at all, and she said, oh, it does that to some people. But reading on here, it sure as heck sounds like a lot of people are complaining of this drug with the same effects. Restlessness was the worst one, feeling like your skin is going to crawl out of you. This was the worst experience ever!! And like someone else said, this drug needs to be removed from hospitals, my god, it's horrible and should not be allowed to be given ever!"

For Mania "Parent to son with psychotic experiences diagnosed bipolar mania by one doctor and schizoaffective disorder by another. Been on a 3-year roller coaster nightmare. Refusal to take sulpiride and risperidone orally for any time resulted in having depot injections, but our experience to date of the depot injections is more negative given the side effects. Like lost personality, tiredness, restlessness. Bouts of long sleeping followed by walking round and round the room. When standing, rocking from foot to foot. Inability to engage in conversations. Sense of hopelessness. We didn't really clue up on the drug and are concerned about the inability to come off/reduce them because a month's worth has been injected then topped up."

For Psychosis "I was on 150 mg of Haldol, and I gained weight. I stuttered, and I feel off-key and debilitated, as well as suffering from erectile dysfunction as a result of taking Haldol. It's got a catchall use for schizophrenia, and unfortunately, if you are labeled as something, it can be hard to shake the label. I am not actually schizophrenic, but I am treated like that and given Haldol, which in turn is something of a pointless med for me. It just slows everything down. I found myself chewing my tongue sometimes."

For Nausea/Vomiting "Was given for nausea that didn’t respond to Zofran. Almost immediately after the IM injection, I became drowsy and agitated and had such bad anxiety I felt like I needed to leave the hospital. I was up all night with muscle twitches and anxiety, I couldn’t stop pacing. Ended up going back to the hospital for Ativan and Benadryl, and I was told my reaction was a common reaction to Haldol. It took me days to feel back to normal. I’d rather be sick than take this ever again!"

For Nausea/Vomiting "Was in for laparoscopy procedure and was very nauseous after the surgery. Initial treatment with Zofran wasn’t helpful, so they then injected Haldol to relieve the emesis and nausea. It made me feel drowsy and restless at the same time. I can’t tell if I’m thankful it helped as an antiemetic or if I absolutely hate it because of the restless legs, anxious, crawling out of my skin feelings. It made resting and sleep very difficult after a really long day at the hospital. My advice: see if the doctor has exhausted all other medications/solutions first! The side effects may make you regret taking it."

For Mania "I was on Haldol for almost 3 years and gained 50 lbs. I was on this for bipolar. I didn’t like the weight gain. I was 137 when I started, and I’m 5’5, and just was weighed at the doctor at 186 lbs yesterday. It got to a point that I was gaining 5 lbs per month, and I wasn’t even eating that bad. Uncomfortable uncontrollable hunger. My body looks bloated, and I am the largest I’ve ever been. It worked great but too bad for the weight gain. I ended up switching to Vraylar."

For Psychosis "I have taken Haldol multiple times for schizophrenia. I have also tried most of the atypical antipsychotics. Haldol has the least side effects for me and works the best. Depending on the dose, I can get restless, but I can control that by splitting the dose up throughout the day. Other than that, I have no side effects."

For Nausea/Vomiting "Given this drug for nausea after surgery. It dropped my heart rate from 80s down to 40s and dropped my oxygen rate down to low 80s. This is a dangerous drug and not enough warnings on the internet. I have atrial fibrillation and COPD. Should not have been given this drug. It was a one-time shot and lucky to be in the hospital at the time."

For Mania "I’ve been on 0.5 mg of Haldol for 2 weeks now. I notice a relaxing effect on the brain. Just what I was looking for. Now I’m taking 0.5 mg twice a day and expecting even better results. I recommend this for anybody dealing with a “Pitbull Personality.” I’m better on it than off of it."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I went to the ER with persistent vomiting that I had already tried Zofran and other medicines for without any luck. After getting a dose of IV Haldol, I stopped throwing up and was able to put down some water. I still had some lingering nausea when there was too much motion, but overall, I would count it very successful. I didn't experience any negative side effects that I'm aware of."

"I have been taking Haldol since 2021. It helped me a lot when nothing else worked. I've tried most typical and atypical antipsychotics on the market and nothing worked. I have minimal side effects. Difficult swallowing is the number one side effect for me, other than that just your usual side effects from antipsychotics. Haldol changed my life - no more voices, paranoia, and visual hallucinations. I take 30mg a day (5mg at breakfast, 5mg at lunch, and 20mg at dinner). I think I will continue taking this in the long run."
