"Awful as I'm writing this. It's 1:30 a.m., and I am up, and I can't sleep, and it made me cough so much more! I have a baby, and now that I can't sleep because of this medicine, I'm going to be miserable tomorrow! I don't recommend it to anyone!"

"I took this pill around 5:30 pm, and it's 11:17, and I'm usually asleep by this time. Keeps you up all night, makes you jittery, and it has you feeling like you're drunk. I hate the way I felt, and it worsened the way my sinus felt. Also, I've experienced heart racing, weird dreams, and blabbing off at the mouth. This product should be off the market."

"Make sure to take it early in the morning when you have just woken up because you will be awake for hours. Do not take it before sleep like I did, unless you want to stay awake until 6 a.m. the following day. Other than that, it works."

"I looked through all the information on Mucinex D but didn't find anything about diarrhea as a side effect. I had severe diarrhea after taking the first two tablets. The next day I took 1 tablet and had diarrhea. So, I don't think I'll take any more."

"Took Sudafed today and decided to try Mucinex D tonight for the congestion medicine in it. My sinuses are feeling less pressure, but it's 2:00 a.m., and I haven't slept a wink, and the way my heart is racing, I doubt I will. This should definitely be a daytime-only medication."

"The medicine itself works to relieve chest/nasal congestion, but it keeps me from sleeping. First night, I was thinking maybe it was because I was traveling, but the second night, same thing, and it's almost like it automatically wakes you at around 2 am. My second dose yesterday had me jittery and groggy during the day. Don't know if I will continue to take this or not. I need sleep!"

"It got rid of my cough, but then made my nose run like crazy. Allergy symptoms while suffering from the flu is a terrible combination. I am angry that my husband bought me this stuff instead of what I asked for. It kept me up all night and is making me irritable."

"I have had only one side effect that I can tell from it... I have never had any stamina during sex, but after taking this medicine, I can last for an eternity the first time and then just have to stop during the second or third time because orgasms just don't come. I am a 42-year-old male, and this is the second time this has happened. The first time was about 7 or 8 years ago. This is the truth and not a fabrication."

"It's 3 a.m., and I'm wide awake. Took Mucinex at 1 p.m. this afternoon, which helped relieve some of the pressure in my head caused by congestion. Took NyQuil at 9:30 p.m., hoping it would knock me out like it usually does, but no such luck. I only took 1 pill at 1 p.m. yesterday, but I guess since it's a 12-hour medicine and I'm a small female (103 lbs, 5'4"), it's still affecting me a lot. My husband swears Mucinex made him feel better, but I say no thank you. I'd rather blow my nose all day and be able to sleep at night. Will not be taking again."

"Love this. When I get a sinus infection, it's very stubborn, and having been given antibiotics way too often all my life, they don't really work anymore. I try to tough it out usually, but when it gets so bad that I'm reaching for my Afrin multiple times a day (a blessing and a curse as it works almost instantly, but causes rebound congestion), I head out and grab some Mucinex D. My doctor warned me about the insomnia the first time she recommended it, so I knew what to expect, but honestly, it's worth it to me to be able to breathe. My ears usually feel even more clogged up at first when taking this stuff, but that clears up after the first 24 hours, and I'll take that over the facial pain from sinus pressure."

"I took this medicine at 8 pm, hoping I would go to sleep normally and just feel better in the morning. Here I am at 1:36 am, wide awake with 0 sleep and 0 sleepiness, which is super frustrating since I have a whole day of work starting at 8:30 am. I didn't know the pseudoephedrine ingredient was so potent at keeping you awake, if I had known, I would have definitely not taken this. My heart is racing, and I just feel really anxious. I’m hoping this feeling will go away soon, as I’m getting worried."

"Yeah. If you want a good decongestant, Mucinex D is for you. Took my first dose at 4 PM, warned that it could cause 'sleeplessness.' Thought I was in the clear, but low and behold, I am here writing this review to the world after that one dose. Current time: 7:15 AM. Taking another just to keep me up for class today. Hurray."

"After having a sinus infection for three days, I went to the immediate care center, they recommended Mucinex D and a saline nasal wash. I felt relief from the two combined methods that I started that morning. However, after taking the second dose of Mucinex D that night, I found that I only had a couple of hours of interrupted sleep. Now, on my second night, while the congestion is much better, I am still not sleepy - even after hardly sleeping the night before. I checked the Internet and found this site, apparently, this is not uncommon. Tomorrow, I will only use it during the day and rely on the saline nasal wash more."

"I have learned to only take this in the daytime due to the stimulant effect of the pseudoephedrine ingredient. I switch to plain Mucinex at night plus Afrin for the 3 toughest days of my miserably long colds."

"I tend to get a sinus infection at least twice a year. The only thing that helps me during this time is Mucinex D. However, after the first time taking it and not being able to sleep, I decided to take one pill every 6 hours instead of 2 pills every 12. Taking it this way allows me to breathe and still be able to sleep at night. For me, it is a miracle worker."

"My mom caught the cold I have just beaten, and it affected her much worse. After consulting a doctor/friend, she recommended trying Mucinex 12 hour. At around 7 PM, she took two 600 mg tablets. She reported being awake all night with heart palpitations, jitters, and a pounding headache. She also threw up in the middle of the night and feels nauseous again this morning. The cough is coming back as the Mucinex wears off. The drug worked to stop the coughing, but the side effects can be hard on some."

"Took this with food. Made me feel very lethargic and jittery at the same time. My appetite is gone. My congestion is cleared, but I can't wait for this medication to wear off. My heart rate speeds up as well. Dry mouth, yuck."

"It helped with the runny nose and cough, but I think the side effects made it not worth taking. The first hour was the immediate release, and it made me feel nervous, anxious, dizzy, nauseous, and I had awful tremors. After the first hour, I came down a bit and didn't feel as awful. Couldn't get any sleep on it, and being a mom of a one-year-old boy, I definitely need my sleep. I won't be taking it again. Going to go back to DayQuil, NyQuil, cough drops... Not for everyone."

"Best stuff ever! I could not breathe or stop coughing. I had to go to the hospital after going to the doctors and getting no relief. The hospital gave me Mucinex, it started to work immediately. Got the over-the-counter and getting better! Thank you!"

"I developed a serious cold with immense pressure from my sinuses on my eyes and head. The first day at 7 a.m., I took two Mucinex-D (clears nasal/sinus congestion, thins and loosens mucus) in the morning, and sure enough, within hours my nasal passages cleared, and there was a constant flow of mucus throughout the day. I was sneezing all through the day. Again, I took two at 7 p.m. in the evening, same result. I slept for maybe 3 hours and then was up all night until 6 a.m. All night, I was constantly blowing my nose and sneezing. The next morning, I took two. Maybe tonight I will not take any. The only discomfort I notice is my left nostril that is the one most clogged, it is constantly itchy, like I want to sneeze all the time, and of course, the insomnia."

"I take Mucinex D 600/60 mg every morning for chronic sinus issues. It has helped considerably with sinus headaches. I would not recommend taking the 1200 mg strength, nor should you take 2 of the 600 unless it is early in the morning... and only for a couple of days. The 1200 mg strength has 120 mg of long-acting Sudafed... that is too much from my experience. Do not take this med after say 12 noon. It will keep you awake for at least 8 hrs! Also, if you take this long term... it is not something you want to quit suddenly... wean yourself off to prevent irritability, etc."

"Would not recommend. A 20-year-old college student who desperately needs sleep but hasn't because the label on the box forgot to highlight and bold 'You won't be able to sleep!!' Took two pills at 10:30 a.m., and about an hour later, I was very jittery, paranoid, anxious, and my heart rate was going insane. It's now 10 p.m., and my eyes are still dilated, and I still feel weird. Would not recommend the whole dosage, or just stay clear in general."

"I took the medicine in the morning. I can finally take a deep breath! I have had sinus congestion issues for years, and I wish I would have known about this product much sooner. It's awesome. I only took one pill, and I am 6'4" 270 lbs, and that seems to me fine for solid relief."

"I had sinus congestion and consequently serious pain under my eyes in the sinus area accompanied by confusion and inability to think clearly. After one Mucinex D tablet, the pain was gone. I suffered from mild insomnia that night, but I'd rather have the insomnia than the pain. I also had less ear pressure/pain during descent in an airplane after taking this drug. Another benefit for me. Thanks, Mucinex."

"I took Mucinex D last night because of slight congestion. It’s currently 4 a.m., and I have the PSAT in 4 hours. I’m wide awake, with my heart pounding and ears rushing. Thought it was the worst case of test-taking anxiety I’ve had, but alas, it was the Mucinex (the pseudoephedrine part). I do NOT recommend this for night use."
