"I was diagnosed with the flu and told to take Tylenol, Tamiflu, Flonase, and Mucinex DM. I ended up just taking the Tamiflu and Mucinex DM around 1:00 PM. It is true that I feel a thousand times better, but I have also been very anxious and it is now 2:56 AM and I am not even close to feeling sleepy, despite not having napped all day."

"Took it yesterday and cleared me right up. I got really sleepy in the afternoon. But when I tried to take a nap, I couldn't. Went to bed taking a pm med (not mucinex) and woke up several times during the night. Didn't think anything of it until I took it today. I felt Euphoric and jittery at the same time. I was majorly thirsty. I downed 3 bottles of water in a row. I had the energy to clean the house a bit. I was roasting in just a t shirt. I took the medicine at 10am. Now here it is 7:30 and still feeling jittery. Less than before but still jittery. I also didn't eat all day other than the food I had with the mucinex in the morning. It seems food tastes weird. Seems the side effects were worse than having congestion alone."

"I read all the information on the previous pages. The box of Mucinex D that I just purchased has a much higher mg of active ingredients than what was reviewed. Mine has 1200 mg guaifenesin and 120 mg pseudoephedrine HCI per pill. The information on the other page was regarding HALF those amounts. So be sure to take the correct dosages into account."

"Have not had sleep for two nights because of terrible cough. Took Mucinex D today at 2 pm and felt good. Like a new person. It's now 11 pm and cough is back so another night of no sleep. Do I take another Mucinex D at 2 am? Don't know if it will keep me awake or not. Choice: continue coughing with no sleep or no coughing with no sleep! "

"I caught flu last week and after 4 days of congestion to the point I thought my head would explode, I took some double strength Mucinex. The pharmacist told me it was as strong as 12 cough syrups and to take it before I went to bed that very night, but after coming here first and reading reviews which claim insomnia, I decided to take it the next morning. Wow! I can breath out of my nose and I'm definitely feeling a lot better. The only problem is that it seems to have some sort of peppy ingredient in it which dries you out quickly if you're not actively drinking through the day. Still, a million times better than Lemsip!"

"I was diagnosed with a pneumonia. My doc gave me antibiotics but also told me to take Mucinex D twice a day with the antibiotics. Well, I took my first does at 8pm, it's currently 11:30pm and I'm wide awake. All I want is sleep and I can't, my cough has subsided with random coughs here and there and my congestion is better...but I need sleep to get better. I don't plan to take this tomorrow night....ughhh...I'm miserable The pseudoephdrine is the ingredient that keeps you awake"

"I can't seem to see the same results as others. I've been to the urgent care in my area recently for bronchitis and after giving me a nebulizer treatment they sent me on my way with suggestion of Mucinex. Man. This stuff works so well, I haven't seen any issues with sleep or feeling jittery. The package does mention to take with a full glass of water, and to stay hydrated. Maybe that's something the others are missing?"

"Cleared up my congestion. I too didn't realize it would leave me sleepless. I am sick and want to sleep so badly but can not. It's 5 am. I have slept 2 hours in the last 24 hours due to this medication. I feel I should be sleeping off this cold and can not. I agree with the other commenters. Take this only in the morning!!!"

"Bad case of Bronchitis and sinus pressure. I took Mucinex DM, 1 pill every 12 hours, for a week. I would fall asleep fine, but wake up 3-4 hours later and could not get back to sleep. I ran out of DM, and for the last few days took the Mucinex D instead. Not much sleep the first night, NO sleep at all last night combined with a lot of post nasal drip and the jitters. So glad I finally figured it out, as I'm a walking zombie right now. I will never take Mucinex D past the morning hours again."

" It got rid of my cough but then made my nose run like crazy. Allergy symptoms while suffering from flu is a terrible combination. I am angry that my husband bought me this stuff instead of what I asked for. It kept me up all night and is making me irritable."

"I have had severe ear aches now for almost a year. I went to my doctor and she said I had a lot of fluid in my ear canal. So she suggested I take Mucinex-D. After taking 1 dose I could tell a huge difference. When I begin to have the symptoms again I automatically go buy my favorite medication Mucinex-D."

"I took this pill around 5:30 pm and It's 11:17 and I'm usually sleep by this time . keeps you up all night, makes you jittery, and it has you feeling like you're drunk. I hate the way I felt and it worsen the way my sinus felt. also I've experienced the heart racing and the weird dreams and blabbing off at the month. this product should be off the market"

"Took Sudafed today and decided to try Mucinex D tonight for the congestion medicine in it. My sinuses are feeling less pressure but it's 2:00 am and I haven't slept a wink and the way my heart is racing I doubt I will. This should definitely be a daytime only medication."

"I have had stuffy nose for over a month, been on 2 different antibiotics and various antihistamines and decongestants. After second dose of Mucinex D, I can breath again. Took first dosage four hours before bedtime, and a hit of Nyquil that night, and I slept great. I'm sorry that I did not try this a month ago."

"Musinex D worked great to clear up my chest congestion that two rounds of antibiotics didn't touch. But I didn't know that a side effect was insomnia. So, although I started feeling better soon after taking it last night, I was well aware of how good I was feeling right on up to 3am! I asked the pharmacist at our local store if Musinex D could have caused the insomnia, and she said yes, and not to take it at night."

"Mucinex works allows your cough to loosen up all the mucus you feel weighing your chest down. I was congested for a good month and on antibiotics, used over the counter drugs and nothing was working for me. I decided to use Mucinex at this point I had nothing to lose. Within the first couple hours this medication allowed the mucus to cough up easier. The down fall is don't take it at night as it will keep you up and still continue to increase your cough in order for you to get rid of your congestion! My advice take it early in the morning with breakfast, and if you can't sleep drink lots of fluid so you can get it out of your system faster."

"Awful. Yes this medication did clear up my cough, BUT the side effects were awful! I was extremely jittery, lethargic, anxious, and then became nauseous as well. I would not take this medication again."

"I am up in the middle of the night wondering why still awake after 3 hours. In reference to the majority of mucinexdm users i now see why. My heart speeding up then slowing down suddenly was very noticable. Dang it!"

" I think I much like the other people on this site who are up at 4 am still trying to go to sleep. It didn't help my cough at all. It actually made it worse. I've had really bad anxiety all night and probably won't sleep for the next 5 days."

"I looked through all the information on MucinexD but didn't find anything about diarrhea as a side effect. I had severe diarrhea after taking the first two tablets. The next day I took 1 tablet and had diarrhea. So, I don't think I'll take any more."

"This has been a life changing pill for me. Unlike others I did not feel that it kept me up at night. I took one at 11pm and feel right asleep after. It was one of the greatest sleeps I had ever had. This has been a real game changer to my cough and congestion."

"Thankful I found this site to calm my nerves. I took mucinex D around 11 pm and fell asleep for about an hour, woke up to my whole body shaking. Of course, started to think of the worst, so made the shakes worse. Then realized it was apart of the side effects of mucinex D. I will no longer be taking."

"Do not take this at all unless you want to be up and feeling like you are never ever going to sleep again. I was taking DayQuils until my very smart girlfriend offered me a mucinex in the middle of the night. Never ever take this or any other med containing pseudoephdrine whatever you are going through is not worth the anxiety and insomnia. I also threw up as well which tasted exactly like the Mucinex"

"This drug works wonders. Clears me right up and loosens my mucus so that I’m feeling myself by the end of the week and back to normal instead of feeling the absolute same( if not worse) and trying to book a last minute apt. with my physician. For any of you who expect to feel normal in just a few short hours and want to sleep like a baby after taking it at 9pm, you’re being unrealistic. Read up on the drugs you take before putting them into your body - the pseudoepedrine will keep you awake so take it in the morning."
