Collagenase clostridium histolyticum "My pinky and ring finger were pretty bent, and when I saw the advertisement on TV about Xiaflex, I decided to try it. It’s a very simple procedure. They numb your hand up and inject the drug. Then, after a day wait, they numb it up again and manipulate your hand to free up the cord(s) that are bending your fingers. The shots for numbing hurt about exactly as much as you would expect them to. The pain was not bad at all. You don’t feel the Xiaflex drug injections because your hand is already numb. Xiaflex dissolves the cord tissue and frees up your fingers to bend back. In my opinion, the pain of the injections was nothing compared to the soreness created by the drug itself as it dissolves the tissues. It’s bearable, and I just used a little Tylenol, which made it OK. It was very sore for the first week, moderately sore for the second week, and lightly sore for the third week. It was not that bad, and the results were awesome. I recommend it!!"

Collagenase clostridium histolyticum "Excellent results, although done early in progression with right hand. 4th digit bent slightly near tip and 5th digit permanently bent and frozen at 1st joint. This condition had been progressing slowly over the past 12-18 months. I straightened and massaged on my own on 1st day after the procedure without numbing. I did not understand this would be done painlessly with numbing on the 2nd day. I heard large 'pops', but with searing pain during this. I'll know better next time. But it seemed to be effective, and I can honestly say I am 100% normal. I still have thick areas on my palm and between my 4th & 5th digit from when the MD split the skin after numbing and over-adducting these fingers apart. Left hand was too severely progressed, and without attempting to use Xiaflex, surgery was performed. My 5th digit was unable to be straightened fully and over the past 5 years has regressed. 4th digit on left is slightly bent near the tip. I hope we can try Xiaflex on left hand."

Collagenase clostridium histolyticum "Made my 2nd and little finger have a bend in them at the big middle joint that won't straighten out now. Overall, fingers in the right hand seem swollen on the underside and extremely sensitive to touch. My hand has lost the grip it had before the injections. Now I know why you can't get it from the USA into Canada anymore. There should be a class action lawsuit over this poor drug that does more damage than good."

Collagenase clostridium histolyticum "I had the injection done after my pinkie and ring finger became significantly contracted. I was assured that my research saying it could be a quite painful procedure was wrong. In fact, it was incredibly painful, and I had swelling and severe bruising in my entire hand and arm, clear up to my underarm and lymph nodes; the doctor's response was that I had had an abnormal reaction. The waiting period between the injection and manipulation kept me awake with nerve pain. My fingers straightened, but in the five months since the procedure, I have weakness, aches, and pain in the arm where it bruised. While it appears I need the procedure in the future in my (dominant) right hand, I am extremely hesitant to even consider it and will likely evaluate other options."

Collagenase clostridium histolyticum "Very painful and creepy. Hand mangled, bruised, skin ripped open. Took time off work, wore a splint at night. A year after, it came back with a vengeance. Twice the scar tissue, fingers crooked up even more."

Collagenase clostridium histolyticum "I had the Xiaflex injections on my right hand and was amazed how easy and non-invasive the process was. The next day my doctor gave me a local injection painkiller and manipulated my fingers. The result was instant with no ill effects. I would recommend this procedure over surgery. I understand that Xiaflex is no longer available in Canada and think this is unfortunate for others suffering from this problem."

Collagenase clostridium histolyticum "I've had 2 injections into each hand to correct my Dupuytren's contracture in my pinkies, and it didn't work. Each time, the pinky went back to the way it was prior to the injection. I have recently had surgery on my right hand to remove an excess amount of scar tissue, the likes my new doctor had never seen before. Did more damage than good."

Collagenase clostridium histolyticum "Horrible experience with Xiaflex. Worst medical decision in my life. Allowed hand surgeon to talk me into treatment with Xiaflex. After treatment, my contracture eventually grew massive, then surgery, leaving horrible scar tissue. Today, had surgery to remove scar and graft."

Collagenase clostridium histolyticum "I was treated for Dupuytren contraction for the ring and pinky finger on my left hand. I had significant discomfort with the Xiaflex injection on fingers, subsequent swelling of the left hand, and minor discomfort in the left armpit, which also turned red. However, after two weeks, the improvement to the fingers has been almost 100%, and it appears to be continuing to improve. Hopefully, I never have to have it again. However, if necessary, I would. Be advised, I’m a 69-year-old male in good health."

Collagenase clostridium histolyticum "Very effective. The secret is a good hand doctor. Completely satisfied with Xiaflex, which corrected a 90-degree bend in my pinkie. Despite a skin tear during follow-up manipulation and the subsequent many bandage changes, it sure beats surgery."

Collagenase clostridium histolyticum "Had left hand done in May and now having right hand manipulated tomorrow. Xiaflex injections are somewhat painful but worth it. The local injections are worse but tolerable, manipulation is nothing. Had minor bruising but no problems otherwise. My right hand has swollen and been a little more painful since the Xiaflex injection earlier, but I am right-handed and use it more. Find a good doctor and get this done, nothing to it!"

"Not for me. It worked okay in terms of quickly almost straightening the finger. But clostridium histolyticum worries me. There was nothing in the warning about side effects, but if that stuff gets to your brain, watch out. I hope one day someone will prove what happens when that stuff goes to your brain. What happened to me was a nightmare."

Collagenase clostridium histolyticum "It hurts like anything, but is well worth it. Pain is only while you are receiving the injections. Almost normal after 3 days. I think finding a doctor that does this a lot is key and catching it early. My shots were paid for by a grant, except for $150, which the company selling the drug took care of."

Collagenase clostridium histolyticum "I had the procedure done in February 2023, 2 years ago now. Must have had a good doctor because although I do remember pain during the procedure, it was very bearable and quick. Before the procedure, my ring finger was curved dramatically, and the fingers on each side of it were also being pulled over. After the procedure, I estimate 85-90% improvement in the ring finger and almost 100% in the other two. The thick chord is still going through the middle of my hand. Over the last two years, there has been a slight increase in the curvature of my ring finger, but performing the exercises given to me post-procedure seems to immediately straighten it. I really should wear the hand splint at night because it does seem to temporarily help when I do. I would recommend it as an alternative to surgery, which can be bad, and talk to a doctor about programs to help reduce the out-of-pocket cost. My doctor was very helpful with that! He told me that it was likely to return maybe 10 years?"

Collagenase clostridium histolyticum "I had it done 5 years ago (the first finger hurt like hell, the second finger I demanded a local). So now one finger is fine and the other is about 20 degrees but okay. So now I have 3 more fingers that are problematic and I go in tomorrow with apprehension due to the pain... local will be demanded. Also, after the first finger was done, I had pain for a couple of weeks. The second finger was fine???"

Collagenase clostridium histolyticum "Had injection. Painful. But no side effects. In fact, no effects at all. Xiaflex did not work for me. Went on to have surgery, which resulted in 80% improvement."
