Chlorpromazine for Nausea/Vomiting "After having surgery for gastric reflux and a major hernia, I was unable to keep anything down, including water. My Dr. tried me on Zofran, Scopolamine patch, and Phenergan with barely any effect. He eventually brought me back in to get some IV fluids into me. That was when he tried me on Thorazine. It works wonderfully on my vomiting. The only problem I have with it at all is that it makes me so drowsy, understatement-it knocks me out. But it was worth it to be able to get something down so I didn't get dehydrated again."

Chlorpromazine for Light Sedation "I have been on Thorazine since 1996. I take 1000 mg a day. The doctor keeps increasing it too. It is the only thing he will give me to sleep. I was on Klonopin 1 mg before I started the Thorazine, and it worked great, but my doctor said he doesn't want me to take it anymore because it is a narcotic, so he took it away and doubled my Thorazine. He also put me on Seroquel 200 mg twice a day. The only thing is I can't do much but lay around all day. I don't like the Seroquel, but he said it's better than Klonopin for me and the Thorazine dose is getting too high."

For Schizophrenia "When I had my first psychotic outbreak and was prescribed chlorpromazine during a hospitalization, I felt like a zombie. I didn't like that medicine. I started smoking nicotine, and the side effects of chlorpromazine (and other medications I was taking along) lessened. Many, many years after that, I'm beginning to bless heavens for having chlorpromazine! I started taking 700 mg a day instead of 100 mg, which greatly reduced the bad side of cigarette smoking in the chemistry of my brain. Chlorpromazine in this dosage made me feel tranquil, relaxed, and joyful! I even think that, having this dosage of chlorpromazine, paranoia is gone for good! God bless psychiatry when it makes good for us!"

For Mania "Helps some of the symptoms of mania and psychosis, or hearing voices and such. Also helps with sleep, which helps greatly when you are bipolar and in a manic and restless state. Overall, I would have to say this medicine has helped the most of all the other medicines I have had to try so far."

For Schizophrenia "Have been off and on for years. Consistently taken now for 2 years. I take 100 mg prn daily. Have been up to 300 mg daily. Has a pleasant subjective response effect. Sort of a hazy feeling. Use Largactil brand. 100 mg tablets give me reflux, so I stick to 25's, maybe 10's soon. Would recommend for relief of the wound-up feeling one can get with a schizo diagnosis."

Chlorpromazine for Hiccups "My eleven-year-old daughter gets severe hiccups as a side effect from chemotherapy. Although the last thing she needs is another drug in her body, we turned to this after traditional tricks stopped working."

Chlorpromazine "The medication took away my alters' connection to me, which at first was really scary because I'd always relied on them to come out and live my life for me when things got rough. I realized soon after starting the drug how little I knew my best friends and how much my disorder actually affected my relationships with them. It scared them and made them come to not trust me at times. Now, I'm scared of not taking it. It has allowed me to learn better coping mechanisms than hiding behind a facade or letting others deal with my problems instead. It has actually helped me realize I don't need the help of my alters to get through a day."

Chlorpromazine for Psychosis "I was on this medicine along with Stelazine back in 1971. I hated the way it made me feel, but I had had a nervous breakdown, and my doctors told me to take it, so I did. I got fired from my job, and overall, this drug reduced my life to being not worth living. My side effects were extreme fatigue and oversedation. Overall, a miserable feeling similar to hay fever."

For Schizophrenia "Though relieving, side effects are a bit much. It may just be the sudden change from my previous medication, but this medicine has added to my anxiety and occasional panic attacks to a point where my doctor has had to prescribe me another antidepressant."

For Hiccups "The day after knee surgery with general anesthetic, I started hiccuping. This continued for 6 days and nights. Towards the end, it became a mixture of hiccups and burps. At this stage, I was frequently fighting for breath. During this period, I was in the hospital recovering from the surgery and saw 4 doctors who could not offer a remedy. On day 7, I met a new doctor at a rehab hospital who prescribed chlorpromazine. I took it that evening and did not hiccup in the night and only occasionally the next day. I repeated the dose the next evening, and the hiccups disappeared completely. Four days later, I have had no further incidents. I wish a doctor had prescribed this drug sooner!"

For Light Sedation "This was prescribed for my anxiety, and it slightly lessens it but hugely increases depression and tiredness (I also have hypersomnia, so tired at the best of times). It makes me feel so flat that I can't really move or think clearly, exhausted but can't sleep, and everything tastes like cardboard, and I'm still fairly anxious anyway. I won't be taking this again."

For Hiccups "Had hiccups for 4 days. Before I took this drug, I was hiccuping every 4 seconds. That's how bad they got. My doctor was closed, so I had to go to A&E. Took 1.25 mg and 10 minutes later no hiccups. Took the whole lot, 25 mg, 3 a day for 5 days. They work. Don't drink beer, I got very tired and dizzy when I did have a few pints."

Chlorpromazine for Light Sedation "The intramuscular is far better than oral, I found. The only drawback is that you will have a very sore bottom afterwards. Thorazine IM does hurt, but it's well worth it in the long run if your stomach gets upset very easily. The onset is much quicker, yet the effect is more mellow than the same dose given orally. Again, Thorazine IM does hurt, so keep that in mind if it is ever suggested."

Chlorpromazine for Hiccups "My husband has small B-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. He has finished his chemo, but his antibody treatment will go on for two more years, according to the oncology hematologist. After his last two treatments, which are now two months apart, he had horrible hiccups. We mentioned it to the oncology hematologist yesterday at his treatment. She ordered a Thorazine 25 mg tablet. We waited for the hiccups today and they showed up. He took the Thorazine tablet and within 45 minutes, the hiccups were gone!"

For Psychosis "I had a psychotic episode last year. It's gone now, but I was given this medication to help ease the symptoms. I would say it's good for calming you down, and I slept well on it. It did help up until a point, then the voices and hallucinations came back. I got switched to Sulpiride, and that seemed to be more helpful. On a high dose, it does make you twitch a lot, and I struggled to pass urine (a listed side effect). Good for sleep and relaxation, but overall wasn't very effective."

For Mania "My son was put on Thorazine 3 months ago, and he says the only thing it does for him is help him sleep better. He has a very flat affect, is zombie-like, and has changed his whole personality. I am not comfortable with him taking this, and his clinician is looking to change it."

"I have been taking this for over 5 months for sleep issues. I started at 25mg, then 50mg, then 100mg, and am now at 50mg because 100mg feels too strong. The lower doses weren't working, so I ended up at 10 mg. I went back to 50mg without my doctor's knowledge. This medication makes me sleep all night, but I feel high in my sleep and I just keep on dreaming all night, so I feel tired in the morning. I want to discontinue it."

Chlorpromazine for Hiccups "Not only did Thorazine not get rid of hiccups, it turned my husband into a zombie! He pulled out his Nguyen tube and catheter. It’s a mind-altering drug they give to mentally ill patients and prisoners to subdue them. Just not worth the additional risk."

Chlorpromazine for Light Sedation "This will put you out of the game. You'll be conscious and fighting it, see and know you're acting in this ridiculous manner, but unable to do anything about it. Don't go driving around or flying down some stairs until you see how it affects you."

Chlorpromazine "Before I started this medication, I was on a road straight to death. I was trying to overdose on my medication and once reached a lithium toxicity of 3.8 on one of my attempts. I also was going to the mental hospital every 2 weeks for a total of 8 times in a year period. When I started this medication, I realized it made me a bit drowsy, but I was able to stay on it, it wasn’t like a Seroquel drowsy, it was way less drowsy than that, but drowsy. I started on the 50 mg and then ended up on 200 mg. But I cut back down to 50 mg due to having jobs that require pace and stuff like that. This medication was the only medication to truly stabilize me, my bipolar is truly terrible. I was taking showers maybe once every week or 2 weeks, but now I take showers every day, sometimes 2 showers a day. I’m also really into self-care, where when I wasn’t taking this medication, I had extreme problems with self-care. This medication is seriously the best medicine I’ve ever been on for bipolar."

Chlorpromazine for Hiccups "My daughter had the hiccups for almost 3 weeks. Tried all the various meds that did nothing but make her tired and sick. Acupuncture stopped them immediately. Please stop listening to the doctors, they want the money. She is hiccup-free for almost 24 hours!"

Chlorpromazine for Porphyria "I have struggled a lot from psychosis worsened by Acute Intermittent Porphyria (AIP)/Variegate Porphyria (VP). Originally, it was thought that I was a high-functioning schizophrenic, with various other labels. Thorazine, when it was first used on me, was to calm me down when I was on the brink of a blackout rage, effectively knocking me out, and for a while after I woke up, the hallucinations were surprisingly minimized. Once released from that facility, I was on a treatment hiatus. Later, I was prescribed Thorazine again. It didn't make it all go away. But it helped take the edge off and helped me maintain control."
