"13 years of drinking a pint of vodka 4 days a week. 14 days ago, haven't had a drink. My doctor prescribed 25 mg of Librium on day 12. Dosage: 50 mg, two times a day, every 8 to 12 hours. Max: 100 mg per 24 hours. Day two: 25 mg every 6 hours, day three: 25 mg every 8 hours, day four: 25 mg every 12 hours, and finally, 25 mg before 'bedtime.' I have a follow-up appointment with the doctor a week after the initial visit for detox symptoms. Also, an intake appointment set up with a well-known outpatient hospital (St Lukes/Mt Sinai, NYC), addiction program, within three days of starting Librium. Librium has taken the severe edge off withdrawal hell. Expect to feel relief, not cured, possibly nauseous, unsteady/heavy legs, as well as tired. ♡"

"This medicine is a miracle. I was a heavy drinker for most of my teen years (literally a day or more of whatever I could get my hands on). I went through one of the best inpatient treatments where they gave me Librium. Within minutes, I was feeling like I was floating and loved it. Anything that took away the dreaded withdrawals was better than that feeling. It totally took away my depth perception but allowed me to finally eat, for the first time since my withdrawals kicked in. I was clean and sober for about 10 months, then relapsed. The pain and withdrawals were just as bad as they were before. I went and got prescribed this medicine and detoxed at home. I was up, walking around and functioning normally minutes after taking it."

"Librium is awesome for my alcohol withdrawals. Maybe everyone is different, but it works really well for me. I'm up doing housework when I should be shaking on the couch and not being able to do anything."

"Gotta say, in my 36-ish years, I've gone through terrible withdrawals. Probably 7 times, every time, one course of Librium killed all the side effects instantly, and I'd be dead if Librium didn't exist."

"Back story: I am a 134 lb, 29-year-old woman who has been drinking heavily since 19. 5-10 a day is where I have been for some years now. I tried tapering myself and was going through hell. I was in fear for my life and was terrified that if I saw a doctor, they would cart me off to detox. I have spent some time focusing on recovering and am very motivated. I am at the point where the idea of taking another drink makes me sick. I went to the emergency room, and they immediately gave me Valium for withdrawals. I left with a prescription for Librium, but my pharmacy was not open. The nurse even suggested taking some drinks until I could get the prescription, but I found a 24-hour pharmacy and just paid for the Librium. Amazing stuff. I actually slept!"

"I've been a heavy daily drinker for a few years now and got prescribed stomach pills that had Librium as one of the ingredients. After a few days of taking it, I had a really busy day and didn't realize until the next day that I hadn't had a drink. No cravings, no cold sweats, and even slept well. Impressed."

"Stopped taking my anxiety medication and thinking alcohol was the lesser of two evils. I went from being a 2-3 days a week drinker (drinking a 6-pack or less) to a liter of vodka a day drinker in less than 3 weeks. Went to the hospital to detox, and they gave me Librium. Took away the shakes, hallucinations, everything in just a few hours. 4 days later, it was out of my system and haven't drank since. Doesn't stop diarrhea from detoxing, but the dangerous stuff got stopped in its tracks the minute they gave me this medicine. Do not try to detox on your own! They do it in 3-5 days in the hospital with this drug, keep you comfortable and monitor your vitals. Best decision I ever made. Saved my life for sure."

"Been through alcohol withdrawal several times, and the anxiety/panic attacks, sweats, shakes, and convulsions are just hell. Last time was so bad I ended up in the ER. They gave me some Librium, and wow. Who knew that this could make it so easy? I sailed through my withdrawal. Have joined AA now, never again."

"Second time using Librium to help with my drinking problem. First time I was drinking half-3/5 of a fifth a day. I took it like clockwork. Woke up specifically to take it. No issues at all. Second time I went into the ER (I have a heart condition... Yes, I know I’m an idiot for drinking with a heart condition). Told the doctor how much I was drinking, and he gave me a very polite yet stern talking to and sent me home. I decided to wait and see how I felt. The next day, I woke up and was shaking and sweating and had horrific nightmares. Took a Librium, and within an hour I was eating and feeling much better. The only thing I notice is mild shakes, some drowsiness, and some anxiety. But a thousand times better than how I was feeling. Now I’m gonna take it like clockwork until I know I’m safe."

"Drank heavily for 2-3 years, vodka and wine couldn't stop 'til the bottle/box was gone. Dr. put me on Librium for a week after I tried to stop on my own. I quit for 1.5 years and then started back to 1 binge a week. Went to Dr. today to get back on Librium, so far I've only taken it once today and my cold sweats have stopped. I hope this helps some of y'all."

"I was a very heavy drinker for 7 years. It got to the point where I was drinking 18-24 beers a night. I would drink right after I woke up because I'd be shaking. I decided I needed to stop. I went to my doctor, and he gave me Librium. He told me I could take up to 300 mg a day. I took 125 mg each day for 3 days. This medicine worked wonders. I had virtually no withdrawal whatsoever during the 3 days. I recommend this to anyone who wants to quit drinking without going to a detox center."

"I'd rather be on Librium for the rest of my life than have alcohol. What these doctors need to realize is alcohol can cause organ failure while Librium does not. We don't live in a perfect world, if a pill keeps me sober, I'm on it for good."

"I've detoxed with Librium (now) 5 times. Currently into my 3rd day with Librium. The first couple of times I detoxed with the stuff, it was amazing. Just three 25 mg pills a day to ward off withdrawals from 3 pints of vodka a day, 3-month-long benders. But I will warn you of this... you build a tolerance to Librium. This time I needed more 25 mg pills in just the first 24 hrs. Then 4 on day two, and now I'm down to 3 (will wean off over the next few days). Stuff is still amazing, but don't be an idiot like me and bounce between booze (to the point of almost death) and then benzos; just to drink booze again."

"Going on day 3 of using 5 mg Librium 3 x day to help with alcohol issues. I had been in the ER, with moderate withdrawal symptoms. This was the first time that my neurons started to fire once the alcohol level was down. It was like vertigo times 10. Ativan in the ER...then sent home with a script for Librium. It has been working very well. Just hoping I don't become dependent."

"I'm 29 and have been to the ER several times, probably about 10 for alcohol intoxication/dependency, and this time the doctor actually got attitude and yelled at me, and that was my wake-up call. I'm also prescribed Xanax for my panic and anxiety, but the Librium is a miracle. Now granted, I didn't drink a lot the last time I went, but having GERD and drinking don't mix either, and I've been taking my 50 mg of Librium for 3 days now, and I feel like a better person. Anyone who over-drinks or wants to stop drinking, I suggest going to the ER, explaining everything to the doctor, and they will most likely give you Librium and also Zofran if you have any nausea. You can become clean, and also going to an outpatient clinic wouldn't be a bad idea either, even though it's almost like therapy. If you relapse, they are able to get you into inpatient detox. Good luck, everyone, and also I strangely enjoyed your stories, lol."

"I have detoxed several times from alcohol over my 25-year drinking career, a couple of times cold turkey, which led to seizures. Librium has always helped. In the detox centers, they would give me 25 mg every two hours that first day with a doctor on site. At home, I was prescribed 25 mg every 4 hours. Don't do it alone, it could be deadly."

"I was administered this drug at the beginning of a 28-day residential detox/rehab for alcohol. It stopped the tremors and shakes. But not the other withdrawal symptoms such as the sweats, which did subside. However, it took slightly longer to bring back the coordination in my legs. I was advised that this had something to do with the receptors in my brain repairing. Until it was brought to my attention, I didn't know how much alcohol affected the brain and its normal function with the rest of the human body."

"For me, this relieves withdrawal symptoms within an hour. It's like magic relief from awful withdrawal anxiety, heart thumping, and nervous system twinges that I get in withdrawal. I have been prescribed it when I am honest with the doctor, and they know I am pursuing staying sober, going to counseling, etc. It is a miracle for withdrawal symptoms for me."

"My uncle was drinking for over 35 years, and after detoxing once before, he was doing considerably well. Things took a downhill turn for him, and it took us a while to get him the right kind of help. Librium is the way to go. He went from convulsions, shakes, hallucinations to a few minor discomforts. By now, even those are gone. God bless every one of you looking for a way out. It is out there, but you must believe in yourself 100%."

"I was in withdrawal one and a half days when I started shaking and feeling anxious. Having already had several seizures due to alcohol, I went to my GP, who prescribed Librium. Symptoms almost stopped completely after one day and after that, no symptoms at all. Don't try to stop yourself, it's dangerous and could cost you your life."

"When I fell off the wagon, I was dreading another trip to the ER when I sobered up. I saw my doctor, and he prescribed this, and it helped immensely. I have really bad panic attacks, and my blood pressure skyrockets, along with nausea, shakes, sweats, etc. This medicine helped get me off booze twice. Recommended."

"I've been drinking for about three years now! To try and take away the depression and anxiety. (I do realize drink is the worst thing to medicate with.) As I write this, I had just woken up on my back, vomiting. Four-day drinking session. Not a morsel of food passed my lips. 25/30 cans of Guinness per day. I've lost the ability to walk properly. For several years now, when I stand up, my legs just buckle. I take diazepam too. They are of no help anymore! I was taken into the hospital two months ago. Family had rung an ambulance. I had alcohol poisoning and took a seizure. Librium really helped with the withdrawals in the hospital. I wish any of you suffering all the very best! Alcohol dependency is such a lonely road to walk."

"I had been drinking the equivalent of a bottle of gin a day for the last 4 weeks. I'm an alcoholic who had managed to quit 4 years ago but had a serious relapse. I tried tapering down the booze, but I felt like I was losing my mind with the stuff. I wanted to go cold turkey, but the withdrawals were utterly horrific - I've never felt so dreadful, the depression was indescribable. I was worried I was actually going clinically insane. I got an appointment with my doctor, and he gave me a Librium prescription. On the first morning of taking the pills, I could have cried with relief at how much better the Librium made me feel - I almost felt 'normal' even though I was starting the cold turkey/withdrawal process. No shakes, no anxiety, no dread."

"I've always done cold turkey withdrawal, and this is the first time I could function. It made me feel numb and zombie-like, but I'd rather have that than the cold turkey withdrawal. I'm a 39-year-old female who's been drinking since 15. I'm a horrible binge drinker that can go weeks with only vodka or other kinds of booze. I wake up in the morning and drink until I pass out, as soon as I wake up, I do it all over again. The only way I stop is if my husband takes my wallet, keys, and any access to $. My withdrawals kick in quick, and I feel as if I'm dying. I don't sleep for 3 to 4 days, I hear stuff that's not there, I sweat profusely, and then I'm freezing, horrible anxiety. My heart jumps at any noise, my heart races, and I get super depressed."

"I was prescribed 25 mg for 5 days. First day every 6 hours, second day every 8 hours, 3rd day every 12 hours, 4th day at bedtime, and 5th day at bedtime. I was drinking heavily for 8 months straight, every day, no break, 375 ml cognac and a champagne on top of that. If I wasn't drinking that, I was drinking a 750 ml of vodka, 80 proof. I tried to stop and my BP was through the roof. My doctor told me to keep drinking until I came into her office for the prescription that was for 6 days. I had to keep drinking, and I finally got the script. I haven't started yet, I start tonight at the time I usually have my first drink. I will let you know how it went for these next 5 days. My doctor said it's the best alcohol withdrawal medication. I'm so over drinking, I'm only 29."
