For Cough and Nasal Congestion "I was prescribed this cough medicine after not being able to sleep for a week because of coughing all night long. I went to pick up the medication, and without insurance, it is over $70, which is ridiculous for cough medicine when I can buy Robitussin for $10. I was lucky enough that my insurance covered almost all of this cost. However, money wasn't my biggest concern. When I took the medicine, it worked. My cough stopped. But the whole reason I wanted my cough to stop was so I could get some rest. This drug has pseudoephedrine in it, which made sleep IMPOSSIBLE. It also suppressed my appetite so much that I could barely eat a meal a day. My cough went away, but I have spent the last week exhausted from sleep deprivation and inability to get any nourishment. I will never accept any medication with pseudoephedrine in it again. It did more harm to me than good."

For Cough and Nasal Congestion "My 12-year-old was diagnosed with pneumonia 9 days ago. She is getting better. No headache, fever, or problems breathing, but this is NOT working. No one is sleeping. Her stomach muscles are sore from coughing so much. Everyone is tired all day! I thought the cough would be gone by now. Requesting something else tomorrow."

For Cough and Nasal Congestion "Took this several months after prescribed, because I still had it in the cabinet and I have a cold. Took 2 teaspoons as directed, before bed. Could not fall asleep, completely restless. Finally fell asleep and woke up abruptly, dripping sweat and heart racing and pounding. Had dry mouth and dizziness. It was absolutely horrible, I called poison control to get more info and their expertise. They directed me to go to the ER. I will never take this medication again."

For Cough and Nasal Congestion "This was a terrible experience. Normally, for congestion and ear infection, you get antibiotics, so this was new for me. I was skeptical to consume this combo of brompheniramine, dextromethorphan, and pseudoephedrine. BUT the doctor knows what's best, right? Nope... long story short, I felt dizzy, nauseous, and on top of that, I had blurred vision that was so bad a relative took me to the emergency room, and the doctor in the ER said this should not be given, and he has many patients who come to the ER due to this particular medicine. He gave me regular antibiotics and told me to drink hot tea, and I was SO much better."

For Cough and Nasal Congestion "Had a violent cough (not diagnosed as anything, doctors said, 'I don't know - a virus maybe?') that persisted for weeks until I was prescribed this. Almost immediately stopped coughing within its effect timeframe (about 8 hrs). I personally felt no side effects, which could be due to the relief it gave me from the violent persistent dry coughing. Was able to sleep soundly again after literal weeks. Would only recommend if your insurance covers it. Went to the local minute clinic, ended up costing me $92 - after insurance coverage about $40. Only use if necessary!"

For Cough and Nasal Congestion "My two youngest, 4 and 2, had an upper respiratory/sinus infection, and the 4-year-old suffered a ruptured eardrum from it. Rx dose 2.5 ml every 6 hr as needed. Rx filled on Thursday; it's now Saturday, and everyone is back to normal. I didn't notice any restlessness or hyperactivity from either of them, no diarrhea. The only side effect I noticed was if I gave it to them around lunchtime, they were both asleep 30 mins later. I would recommend this product, under Dr. care, and use common sense to not overdose in a child."

For Cough and Nasal Congestion "Went to my doctor this morning for a terrible ear infection and sinus infection and some coughing. Doctor put me on this cold preparation, brompheniramine/dextromethorphan/pseudoephedrine, and an antibiotic. After one dose of the bromp syrup, my nose opened up. It did make me sleepy, but rest is good."

For Cough and Nasal Congestion "I contacted my doctor to ask him how I can ease a dry, painful cough with coughing fits and a head cold. This is what he prescribed. Using an oral syringe from the pharmacy makes taking it very easy. 10 to 15 minutes after taking my first dose, the congestion in my head lessened. I did have a headache come on afterward. I took Tylenol, put an ice pack on my head, and was able to fall asleep. The cough lessened in severity from the first dose onward. I still felt the urge to cough but was able to suppress the cough, in contrast to before taking the medication where if I felt the urge to cough it meant a coughing fit was definitely about to happen. The coughing fits were painful and taxing, so I'm really glad for this medicine. Other side effects I felt have been my vision being a bit weird, though not quite blurry, and my heart racing (but no more than if I had a strongly caffeinated drink)."

Brompheniramine / dextromethorphan / pseudoephedrine for Cough and Nasal Congestion "Works so well for me and my family. However, it has been increasingly hard to find in pharmacies. Keep being told it is no longer manufactured or is behind in production. Wish I could get it easier when we need it."

For Cough and Nasal Congestion "My son, 5 years old, took this medicine. It worked out great. But, oh boy! My son’s behavior was uncontrollable! Super hyper, jumping nonstop, to the point that I got really worried thinking that something was wrong with him. Very bad feeling! His behavior was bad! I don’t recommend this medicine because of this rare side effect. It worked, but I will not give him this medicine ever again!"

For Cough and Nasal Congestion "I have bronchitis, a cough so bad it wakes me up, hurts, and makes me sweat. I have been to 3 doctors. The ER doctor gave me Robitussin on a Tuesday. Didn't work. I went to my family doctor on a Friday, he gives me benzonatate, and again that didn't work. On Sunday, the cough is killing me to the point I go to urgent care. She gives me this cough syrup, bromphen. Now 3 hours later from taking it... I have the runs. So not only can I not sleep from the cough, now I'm on the toilet with the runs, coughing. Great! Thanks, doctors. While y'all are all sleeping, your patient is up doing worse than before. This medicine is trash."

For Cough and Nasal Congestion "You cannot sleep. I was prescribed this drug to treat bronchitis. While it lessened the severity of my coughs in the beginning, the syrup was so intense it can cause coughs on its own. This drug, at its peak, rid one nostril of congestion for a whole 35 minutes. The worst side effect is the inability to sleep. It’s not like having too much coffee. You’re left in a miserable, drowsy state, absolutely unable to sleep. It is miserable."

For Cough and Nasal Congestion "I have had a bad cough for 2 weeks, and I always wake up in the middle of the night to cough. I have been prescribed this medicine, and it tastes absolutely disgusting. I mean horrific. It tastes like rip-off root beer mixed with bubble gum from the Dollar Tree. It helps with my cough a little, but I get a little dizzy after I take it."

For Cough and Nasal Congestion "I took this, and for three days, I didn't seem to put the pieces together until the third day. It caused me to feel anxious beyond belief. It's a 'rare' but possible side effect that seems to be a lot more common than people think, considering the other comments on this page. Depression, anxiety, feelings tied with the inability to sleep. I wouldn't recommend this medication."

For Cough and Nasal Congestion "I've had this cough for almost 20 years. It keeps getting worse. The only relief was a homotropine/hydrocodone pill. Unfortunately, it's a narcotic, and doctors don't see that the cure is worth the risk. My doctor, again, took me off of it. I'm a 60-year-old female, constantly coughing up a lung, and he put me on this. All it did was make me sick to my stomach and give me diarrhea. Did not help my cough at all. Does not work for chronic cough!"

For Cough and Nasal Congestion "I was given this to treat bronchitis and sinusitis. I've been doing dialysis for 8 months, and I've had a terrible cough since I started. Been to multiple doctors and had lung X-rays, given inhalers for asthma or COPD. Nothing could get rid of my constant terrible cough, and it was getting worse to the point of wheezing and not being able to catch my breath. Felt like I couldn't get enough air, and it scared me. Finally got prescribed this cough syrup with an additional steroid. Within 12 hours, I was drastically improved. Hardly any cough whatsoever. Three days later, I've never felt better. Downside: I'm very constipated, and I can't urinate. I get a couple of drops like a leaky faucet but feel like I have to piss buckets, and I feel like I'm gonna piss my pants because it feels like it's gonna come out strong... but it doesn't. Today is day 4. I'm not taking this any longer. Hoping bathroom routine goes back to normal today. Also, this syrup burns, I've had heartburn for 3 days on and off."

For Cough and Nasal Congestion "I've been prescribed Bromfed a few times when having severe sinusitis with an extremely dry cough. It has been great every time and helped suppress the agonizing dry coughing spells. I do notice a difference in head congestion and that mucus finally starts to clear, and when I do cough, it is productive. I love having one med to relieve the majority of cold and sinus symptoms, and it works quickly!"

Brompheniramine / dextromethorphan / pseudoephedrine for Cough and Nasal Congestion "I had a bad cold for a couple of days. I also thought I was maybe experiencing rebound congestion from a nasal spray I use way too often. Went to work today and my body said NOPE. I was shaky and weak. Just felt really off. I went straight to urgent care, and they called me in Bromfed DM to relieve symptoms of a respiratory viral infection. I took a half dose (5 ml instead of 10 ml) to see how it would make me feel before the evening. I could feel my sinuses starting to decongest after about 30 min. At 2 hours in, I can actually breathe through my nose quite a bit. Less coughing and ear pain/congestion gone. I will be taking a full dose for bedtime. Only side effect so far is a bit of drowsiness and dry eye about 1 hour in. However, I did not sleep well last night. It’s VERY possible the dry eye is just giving me that “tired eyes” feeling. Some dry mouth at 5 hours in, but nothing too bad."

Brompheniramine / dextromethorphan / pseudoephedrine for Cough and Nasal Congestion "I have mixed feelings about this. I had an upper respiratory infection due to post-nasal drip, and it helped with the allergies and congestion, but I felt very loopy, high, had heavy breathing, and uncoordinated. So on the one hand, I could now breathe through my nose and wasn't coughing anymore, but ended up with another host of problems. If you do take it, maybe halve the dosage you get from your doctor first."

For Cough and Nasal Congestion "My four-year-old grandson was prescribed this medicine for cough and congestion related to RSV. Within a few hours, his behavior changed to practically an out-of-control, biting, hitting, climbing, danger to himself and younger sibling. It was very startling to see. After 24 hours off this medicine, he is still out of control. He’s not on any other medications. He has had the same issues with Zyrtec, Claritin, and Benadryl. The cough was stopped, but the side effects outweigh the benefits. Not for children. I also was prescribed this same medicine for RSV a week later. My heart was racing, sweating at night, and zero appetite. The cough stopped, and nasal congestion was relieved. I feel the medicine should be used very carefully."

For Cough and Nasal Congestion "Won't try it any longer to judge efficacy. Took the first 5 ml dose (one tsp) as directed, and my lips and tongue actually burned, as if I had taken a teaspoon of hot sauce. The burning lingered on my lips for about 5 minutes. Never had this kind of reaction before to cough meds (I'm 51), so that was it for me. Can't say whether it would have worked because I cannot deal with such a bizarre reaction to what is clearly labeled on the bottle as a 'flavorless pink liquid.' I'll go back to OTC Robitussin or another with expectorant myself. $20 for a 180 ml bottle through my insurance."
