Gabapentin - has anyone else had tooth decay problems from this medication?

Initiated Gabapentin regimen in multiple strengths(300-600mg) and dosages over the years in conjunction with Hydrocodone and others for pain quotient registering from various Laminectomies.
(Laminectomy syndrome).
At just about year four my teeth despite regular check ups, cleanings etc. started to rot from the inside out for lack of a better description. Hell, even had a P/M physician acknowledge this downside to Gabapentin.
So there have it warts 'n all..

I too have had problems since starting Lyrica/pregabalin. My dentist and hygienist both commented at my last visit and they asked me what had changed. I said nothing had changed except I was on new pain meds, Lyrica. Now 2 years on the damage is obvious to my poor teeth and gums.
I am not sure where this is going as the meds really help with neuropathic pain, they also appear to mask tooth and gum problems so that maybe we don't feel the warning pains that might have others running to the dentist far sooner?
Has anyone found anything that works to fix the enamel and gums?
The thing with most people is that this decline of teeth is clearly documented by dentist/hygienist records?

Just had three extractions today. Even losing crowns that have been in for 40 years next month. Diabetic and wonder if gabapentin is worth it. Some relief but don't like looking in the mirror.

Wondering if the side effect of dry mouth from some of these meds could be causing some of these of dental problems.
Had a close family member that was a dentist and he told me all the time dry mouth can cause a breeding ground for bacteria that leads to cavities. Just my 2 cents. Not a professional opinion.

Hi, yes I've been having terrible trouble with all my back teeth, they have decayed terrible since the birth of my 2nd child and been on gabapentin since then for severe pain, I'm on really high doses of this and a few more pain meds, some teeth actually sofend, all my wisdom teeth have snapped of right to the root, and the rest have with snapped in half or massive chips, and others just decayed, I'm absaloutely gutted, my front teeth are ok. But I've always had good teeth until was pregnant , the dentist however won't believe it my meds as not documented or researched enough, however most nurses I have spoken too have clicked on that gabapentin does have an effect on teeth. I'm only 35 and losing most of my teeth is heartbreaking, but I can't stop the meds either. I wish there was more research into longevity of taking pain, nerve meds and effect on the whole body as ive also noticed it has affected hair and nails. Hope this helps hun.

I have been taking gabapentin 900mg a day for around 3 months and my teeth have crumbled and broke I’m waiting to have 6 teeth out there that bad

Sadly I too have been a victim of Gabapentin rotting my teeth but as everyone else is saying GPs and dentists all deny the drug is responsible. I have MS and like most of us GPS think Gabapentin is the answer... oh no it’s not certainly not for everyone. I haven’t taken it now for 5 years but having lost big molars on both sides of my mouth (one just disintegrated during dinner with friends!) I’m now about to pay my dentist a lot of money to try to repair the ones in front and help with my gums. I’m so sorry this isn’t what you will want to hear but you most certainly are not on your own for what that’s worth!

I never had a cavity my entire life up until I began taking Gabapentin 5 years ago. My teeth are literally rotting from the inside out!!! I have already lost one front tooth and broken a molar in half! I quit taking gabapentin 6 months ago but I fear that its already too late. I am not a drinker, never used drugs, smoke cigarettes but still always took care of my teeth. I don't smile anymore. All my teeth look horrible starting at the gum line. My doctor too says it's not related to my meds. I say B.S. :(

YES, been on this drug for 5 yrs , my teeth also are rotting inside out this is BS i did consult my physician they dont no anything so mad , who is gonna pay for new teeth now i would have never taken this medication, get off now if you care about your smile cause i dont have one now i used to have a beautiful smile

"Gastrointestinal side effects:
Common (1% to 10% of users): Dry mouth or throat, dental abnormalities, gingivitis, glossitis, gum hemorrhage, thirst, stomatitis, unpleasant breath odor"

I've been taking Gabapentin for 8 and a half years - more than the recommended dosage because it takes more to shut the nerve down in my foot (just one nerve in the left foot). The result: all molars are gone and I just found out today that my bottom teeth are going. I'm 78, so age might have something to do with it. So now, I'm going to find a strong topical for that nerve and taper off these things... it's kind of late, but I still have some teeth on top.

All of my teeth have rotted from the inside out, used to have good teeth. I have been on gabapentin for a number of years and only recently learned about other people regarding tooth loss and this drug. I have lost all my top teeth and most of my bottom ones in the last year. Is there any recourse? My daughter only recently read something about gabapentin and tooth loss.

I've been taking Gabapentin for about a year now and every time I turn around there's more tooth decay--AND my teeth were always well-cared for by me and in excellent condition. So I think there's something to the Big G causing decay. As well... Gabapentin has caused me to be so damn depressed that I've just stopped taking it. I take a small dose (50mg) of Tramadol whenever my Fibromyalgia acts up and I can't sleep. During the day, as long as I'm moving around, the pain is to a minimum. Another med that--believe it or not--helps to keep the pain down is the Adderall I take for ADHD.

My dentist recently told me that any medication can make you more prone to having a dryer mouth (noticeably or not) which increases tooth decay.
