This treatment applies to the following species:
Company: Zoetis

Porcine Reproductive & Respiratory Syndrome Vaccine

Reproductive & Respiratory Forms

Modified Live Virus

For Whole Herd Protection

For vaccination of healthy, susceptible swine in PRRS virus-positive herds as an aid in preventing reproductive and respiratory diseases caused by PRRS virus. A 19-week duration of immunity against reproductive disease has been demonstrated in swine vaccinated prebreeding. A 26-week duration of immunity has been demonstrated against respiratory disease.

Directions For Use

Aseptically rehydrate the freeze-dried vaccine with the sterile diluent provided. Shake well and aseptically administer a single 2-mL dose intramuscularly to pigs 1 day of age or older. Efficacy has not been demonstrated in seropositive piglets. In young pigs, re-vaccinate after maternally derived antibodies to PRRS have declined. Safety of this product has been demonstrated when sows or gilts are vaccinated prior to breeding or at any stage of pregnancy. Protection against reproductive disease, however, was demonstrated when animals were vaccinated 6 weeks prior to breeding. Consult your veterinarian for appropriate use and timing of vaccination.

Precautions

Do not vaccinate boars of breeding age. Store at 2°-7°C. Do not freeze. Use entire contents when first reconstituted. Sterilized syringes and needles should be used to administer this vaccine. Do not sterilize with chemicals because traces of disinfectant may inactivate the vaccine. Burn containers and all unused contents. Do not vaccinate within 21 days before slaughter. Contains gentamicin as preservative. As with many vaccines, anaphylaxis may occur after use. Initial antidote of epinephrine is recommended. Fetal health risks associated with vaccination of pregnant animals with modified live vaccines cannot be unequivocally determined by clinical trials conducted for licensure. Management strategies based on vaccination of pregnant animals with modified live vaccines should be discussed with a veterinarian.

Shedding and transmission of vaccine virus by vaccinates: Vaccine virus may be shed and transmitted to other populations of swine in direct or indirect contact with vaccinated swine. The duration of potential vaccine virus transmission may vary. Nonvaccinated pigs in contact with Fostera PRRS-vaccinated pigs may seroconvert to vaccine virus. Use of the vaccine in herds intended to remain PRRS virus seronegative is contraindicated. Introduction of vaccinated pigs into herds intended to remain PRRS virus seronegative is contraindicated.
