Anthralin has been shown to cause tumors in animals. However, there have been no reports of anthralin causing tumors in humans.
As well as its needed effects, anthralin topical (the active ingredient contained in Zithranol) may cause unwanted side effects that require medical attention.
If any of the following side effects occur while taking anthralin topical, check with your doctor or nurse as soon as possible:More common:
- Redness or other skin irritation of treated or uninvolved skin not present before use of this medicine
- Skin rash
