Gastrointestinal adverse events
Gastrointestinal side effects have included nausea, mild abdominal cramps, bloating, diarrhea, rumbling sounds, flatulence, severe abdominal pain and vomiting.[Ref]
Metabolic
Metabolic side effects associated with docusate have included at least one case report of hypomagnesemia.[Ref]
Metabolic abnormalities reported include hypomagnesemia in one woman who took docusate chronically throughout her pregnancy. Magnesium levels returned to normal following discontinuation of docusate.[Ref]
Dermatologic
Dermatologic side effects with docusate have included rash.[Ref]
