Brexanolone may cause excessive sedation and sudden loss of consciousness during the infusion. The risk and/or severity may be increased when combined with other antidepressants or other medications that can also cause sedation. Let your doctor know prior to receiving brexanolone if you are currently using alcohol or receiving treatment with milnacipran, as you may be more likely to experience sedation-related side effects. You should be under close medical supervision by a health care provider during administration of brexanolone. Tell your healthcare provider right away if you feel like you cannot stay awake during the time you are normally awake or if you feel like you are going to pass out. Your healthcare provider may lower your dose or stop the infusion until your symptoms go away. You must have a caregiver or family member with you to help care for your child(ren) during your brexanolone infusion. Do not drive, operate machinery, or engage in potentially hazardous activities requiring mental alertness and motor coordination until the sedative effects have gone away and you know how these medications affect you. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Milnacipran may cause liver damage, and taking it with alcohol may increase that risk. You should avoid or limit the use of alcohol while being treated with milnacipran. Call your doctor immediately if you have fever, chills, joint pain or swelling, excessive tiredness or weakness, unusual bleeding or bruising, skin rash or itching, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, dark colored urine, or yellowing of the skin or the whites of your eyes, as these may be symptoms of liver damage. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
