In some cases, rhabdomyolysis can cause kidney damage and even death. Let your doctor know immediately if you have unexplained muscle pain, tenderness or weakness, especially if these symptoms are accompanied by fever or dark-colored urine. You should also seek immediate medical attention if you experience chest pain, chest tightness, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, or irregular heartbeat. Occasionally, using these medications together or one after the other has also been associated with serious allergic reactions. You should be monitored closely by your doctor for signs of a reaction so that emergency treatment may be administered if necessary. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Food can enhance the levels of ribavirin in your body. Ribavirin should be taken with food or just after eating. This will make it easier for your body to absorb the medication. Do not take it on an empty stomach. Swallow the tablet or capsule whole.
