The use of ergot alkaloids is contraindicated in patients with conditions predisposing them to vasospastic reactions, including, ischemic heart disease (angina, history of myocardial infarction, silent ischemia), peripheral vascular disease, sepsis, shock, vascular surgery, uncontrolled hypertension, and severely impaired hepatic or renal function.
