For Bacterial Skin Infection "I was prescribed a 10-day supply of Bactrim DS for finger lesions infected with staph. Within 2 days, I noticed that the infection started to heal. I also immediately experienced side effects of nausea, diarrhea, and heart palpitations. My doctor ordered me to have an echocardiogram/heart monitor as a result of irregularities she saw on my EKG while taking Bactrim. At the end of the 10-day supply, the infection had not cleared completely, and I was given a second round. After starting the second round, I broke out into a rash that covered my entire body. I had to have a shot of Prednisone and take an additional 6 days. It has been more than a month since I took the last dose of Bactrim, and I still am dealing with the original infection as well as being treated for chronic hives. I have not had heart palpitations since stopping the medication."

For Sinusitis "I recently took Bactrim for a sinus infection. My first day of taking the Bactrim, I got nervous and my hands started to itch, I couldn't sit still. I broke out in a red rash on my shoulder and left hand, and my feet are red on both sides. But I had previously taken Bactrim before over the years with no problems. This time, I was shocked because I had taken it before. So I went to the urgent care, and they told me not to take it anymore. So I am throwing the cheap in the trash. And I just hope that my sinus will heal on its own."

"I took Bactrim 2x's a day for ten days (should have been 14 days). The first ten days, no problems at all. On the night of the tenth day, I itched all night and woke up with a rash all over my body. The doctor said to stop taking the Bactrim. He gave me two doses of steroids (40 mg a day for 2 days) and Benadryl. I quit taking the Benadryl on day 3 because the rash had cleared up. The next day it began to spread again. I have been taking Benadryl for seven days now, and when I don't take it, my cheeks get very 'rosy.' I would love to know how long this stuff stays in your system. Even the manufacturer says you can have a reaction up to 2 months later. That's really scary!"
