"Noteworthy, I was on atenolol for many years when tremors began and no hair loss. Switched to propranolol whenever essential tremors increased. Propranolol - I lost 2/3 of my hair! After 1.5 months, I stopped. It wasn’t helping tremors enough to put up with major hair loss. 3 years later, my thick, beautiful hair is now thin and not as healthy. I cut it short and layered. I regret taking it. But strangely, I started back on atenolol for BP, and hair loss continued despite not previously having hair loss with atenolol. Stopped it too."

"Over the past 27 years, I have had two major meningiomas removed, front bone flap removed, titanium cranioplasty performed, and in all, 5 craniotomies. The last one was in 2005, since well before that time, I have had essential tremors, as the first tumor was between the frontal lobes of the brain, causing moderate gliosis. I have been taking Deralin (propranolol) 20 mg x 2 daily with reasonable control of my hands. Recently, my doctor reduced my dosage to 10 mg x 2 daily, and tremors on some days are now very bad. I am not quite sure why, but I did have a period of diabetic problems (type 2) ranging from high to low readings, which was thought to have been caused by an infection (I am 81). Hopefully, he will raise the dose soon."

"I take 20 mg twice a day (40 mg total), one in the morning and one at night. I've been on it for 3 years. I’ve struggled with social anxiety/phobia for 15 years. I’ve always had a tremor, however, anxiety would make my tremor so bad that my whole body would convulse. You could hear the tremor in my voice when I talked, and my head would twitch. It stopped me from speaking to and eating around people. Since taking propranolol, the bad twitching has almost completely stopped. I still get anxiety and the occasional panic attack, but my physical symptoms are much more controlled. I also noticed I rarely get migraines anymore-I used to get them every couple of months. This medicine has changed my life."

"I think it helped some in the beginning. Neurologist said the head nodding would get worse over the years and it has. 80 mg ER isn't keeping it under control anymore. It was helpful to take the extended release/ER version from the get-go, much better than having to remember to take it 2x per day. Easy to take gel capsules. By the way, it never helped much with my social anxiety. I can't recall, but it hasn't for years. No side effects that I can recall now, because I've been on it for around 15 years."

"I took the 80mg ER version for about 4 years for my tremor. I really liked this medication. It virtually eliminated my tremor and, as a bonus, it even prevented my migraines! My blood pressure drops about 12 points systolic but that's also a good thing in my case. After a few years, I developed a tolerance to the drug and suddenly it became completely ineffective. After taking a break from it for 4 months, I am now taking it again, but now I take 10mg to 20mg a day as needed. Hopefully a low dose will not cause a tolerance in the future."

"I found that it did control my BP to an acceptable level, but it did nothing for my anxiety or tremors. The tremors did stop after a round of amoxicillin antibiotics but have since returned with yet another infection."

"Works great! My dosage is low, 20 mg x 2/day - it’s because of bradycardia that I naturally have (slow heart beat) and since propranolol is a beta blocker, it can worsen that. I have been taking this medicine for 11 years now. It was prescribed to me because of hand tremors/shaking. My grandfather suffered from this also. I can't tell if the shaking of my hands is because of a change in my anti-manic medication (aripiprazole) in -13, but I recall having symptoms before that, and aripiprazole possibly worsened it. I haven't had any side effects. My dose is high enough to keep symptoms at bay and low enough to not have too slow a heart beat."

"Propranolol 80 mg extended; (Take 1 Cap. - every 8 hours, BEFORE meals)... Results = EXCELLENT - Maintaining minimal essential tremors, unless I'm hungry OR horny. Cut in half - 100 mg Viagra; (Substitute 1/2 of cut Viagra 50 mg, 1x for 2d Propranolol (approx NOON; 2d Viagra half about 8:00 PM);"
