Potassium citrate "A great preventative drug for Calcium Oxalate kidney stone formers. Also, somehow helped with pain post-surgery. I had a cystoscopic laser lithotripsy to remove a 9mm kidney stone stuck in my kidney and my doctor prescribed me this post-surgery (in addition to all the other meds you get post-surgery). It helped with the constant burning feeling during recovery. It is also great for prevention of future kidney stones. Accidentally indulge in a meal containing high oxalates? No worries, drink a bunch of water and take one of these. Obviously, don't do that all the time but it's a great medication for those meals you just can't say no to. I think taking this medication 3x a day is excessive and found myself taking it once a day instead."

"I started taking losartan for high blood pressure 14 years ago. One side effect of losartan is that it increases the risk of uric acid kidney stones. In the next four years, I had 8 kidney stones, 2 of which were greater than 5 mm in diameter, which required trips to the hospital. Then I started taking 30 mEq of potassium citrate a day, and I have not had a kidney stone in 10 years. It has been very effective."
