"I've been taking Trulance for over a year. It does, at times, make me feel sick, and once I was so dehydrated that I fainted at work, hurting myself badly. However, it has helped release pressure, and at first, it would cause what I call a 'sludge' movement, always followed by liquid. Lately, it's not been as effective. I have a partial blockage, and the gastro doctor says that the waste I pass is going around the blockage now. Taking it every day makes it hard to live a normal life because I'm homebound for the night. I need to make some decisions because the doctor suggests removing the colon as the next step, but I'm uncertain about what to do."

"I also have IBS. I have tried Trulance for about 10 days now. I have not had any diarrhea or relief other than a bit less pain in the abdomen. I have, however, had extreme ear pain, irritability, continued side pain, urination pain, dizziness, and am more lethargic than before I started the terrible drug. I did not take any today, and after being awake for 5 hours, I sat down and fell right asleep in my recliner. I am awake now but looking forward to more sleep as I finish this post. I’m seeing my doctor tomorrow to have labs done to check my liver."

"I must admit I was skeptical at first to try a prescribed drug for constipation, but it works better than other over-the-counter drugs that I tried before. I empty my bowels daily now, with no effort and no extra pain!"

"Took it for a week. I've been so bloated with horrible gas pain the whole time. Diarrhea all day, and then when the diarrhea is done, I strain to pass the same small pellet stool I have when I don't take anything. Tried splitting the pill in half and get the same results. Drinking 3 liters of fluids a day and still feel dehydrated. The only good thing I can say about this medication is that it was a free sample at my doctor's office."

"On Trulance, I had nothing but daily pain after three weeks' usage. No improvement at all. Even tried enemas to get things going and... nada. Also, I have been binge eating and gaining lots of weight. Going to discontinue. I hope others have more success."

"Have been suffering from chronic constipation for years and recently developed abdominal pain that I’ve gone so far as to have a colonoscopy to explain, but it remains unexplainable. The doctor put me on Trulance after an Amitiza attempt. It helps my pain tremendously when so far nothing else even touches it. It doesn’t, however, do much for my constipation. If it did, it’d be my miracle drug!"

"I was prescribed a particularly unpleasant drug, which I took as directed: one 3 mg pill. Shortly after ingestion, I was forced to rush to the bathroom. Three hours later, I had experienced diarrhea nine times in a row and was headed back for the tenth time. The experience was extremely uncomfortable, with cramping, bloating, and a persistent need to go. Despite being instructed to take the drug on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, I have no intention of taking it again on Friday."

"After being on Linzess for 2 years, where that med caused me a range from horrible diarrhea to not working at all, so my gastro put me on this new med. It seems to work within the hour of taking it, and I do not get serious diarrhea like Linzess gave, so that's great. I am bloated, but it's too early to tell if it's from this med or not, since I've only been on it for 2 weeks. I just hope it doesn't cause me weight gain like Linzess did. One thing I do notice is that I feel tired since taking this medicine, which I don't think is just a coincidence. I'm going to try this for a month and see if that side effect goes away."

"I was so hopeful. Nothing else has worked. Took one pill. Painfully passed hard, mucus-wrapped small stool, in pain for hours afterwards, but the real surprise is I had a delayed anaphylactic reaction. Face swelled, lips swollen and painful, hives all around my mouth and sores in my mouth, throat swollen and red, trouble breathing. My face looked like it was deformed. Took Benadryl, called Trulance manufacturer, the person there did not know the drug's source, they didn't know the half-life, excretion/elimination time or way. Two days in and I am still battling the allergic reaction. If you tend to have allergic reactions, take their 'could have allergic response' seriously. Very angry."

"I started taking this medication 2 days ago, and within an hour of taking my first pill, I was having a bowel motion. I have taken laxatives every day for 2 years straight. I went to the GI doctor on Friday, and she gave me samples to try, and I love it so far."

"I started on Trulance close to a month ago. I have chronic constipation due to massive nerve damage in the lumbo/sacral region caused by a spinal cord disease. Since taking this medication, I have actually gained 10 lbs, which I do NOT need, and I am developing sinus problems, which is what happened when I took Linzess. I was on an antibiotic every 3-4 months while taking Linzess. I have no appetite with Trulance, but I am still gaining weight? Has this happened to anyone else? I'm at a loss what to do because I'm out of options. I've taken all OTC medications and scripts, and NOTHING is working. The Trulance is a hit/miss situation, like Linzess was. Any certain things anyone has done to help with this? I'm desperate. Thank y'all."

"It has been a long journey and not all that successful. One of the biggest problems is that the pill can take several hours to work. Once in a while, the pill does zip. My past GI doctor was not friendly and bordering on rude. I am going to a new GI doctor/practice because I need a fresh start. I follow a FODMAP diet. When I do take the pill, I feel like I am confined to my house. Something has to happen soon. I have no words of encouragement to share at this point."

"I'm having a hard time with this Trulance because it's giving me stomach cramps, making my stool a little hard, also making my rectum very sore. So I'm getting very frustrated because nothing seems to work to help have a bowel movement. I only have a bowel movement about 5 times a month, and my weight is going up. I hardly can eat anything because no bowel movement. This medication is a sample for me to try out."

"I started taking this a little over a month ago. Was taking it for 2 or 3 days straight and had trips to the bathroom for long periods after. I had enough at that point because you can't live a normal life. I called the doctor, told him I'm done, and he advised me to take it every other day. He advised me that it has to work into your system and to stick with it. It does upset my stomach some for a short time after, but nothing like it was when I took it daily and do not take any dairy because that makes it worse. I've noticed that if I skip an extra day, my stomach gets more upset when I take the next dose. Does help with the issue, but I'm not sure it is a long-term answer. I still have the side pain I originally had, but it has subsided some. Hope this helps."

"Used Amitiza for 8 years until it stopped working. Linzess for about 2 years before it stopped working. Switched back to Amitiza at twice the dose and experienced terrible heartburn. My insurance company changed to Trulance, and I am glad they did. It has been the very best. Works well daily within 2 hours of taking it. I do occasionally have a day with no bowel movement. Usually normal, soft consistency stool. No cramping. Occasional mild diarrhea. No other side effects. I also eat fiber, take fiber supplements, and drink 3-4 quarts of water a day."

"Was prescribed Trulance for regular episodes of constipation that I've had for years. I could not stay on this medication longer than 2 weeks. I thought that the term 'explosive diarrhea' was a gross colloquialism, but Trulance made me experience what can only be described as explosive diarrhea. The human body never ceases to amaze me with things I never thought were possible, things I really wish weren't possible. I was going to the bathroom once every twenty minutes, staying on the toilet for ten. The stomach cramps were unpleasant, but I have a high pain tolerance and deal with regular severe abdominal cramping (endo). While on Trulance, I ruined multiple pairs of underwear and felt extremely embarrassed and ashamed. I was bordering on incontinent. I gave this medication a 5/10 because Trulance certainly did its job of clearing up my bout of constipation, the problem was that it worked WAY too well. I know that I can use it as a 'last resort' for episodes of severe constipation."

"I took Trulance for constipation but didn't find it more effective than Miralax and I got a UTI after about 4 days. After about 8 days, I started having leg cramps and soreness even while taking electrolyte rehydration pills. I stopped taking it after 12 days."

"I have IBC, and after years of laxatives and enemas, which stopped working, I was put on Linzess for just shy of two years. I gained weight, had horrible bloat and brain fog feeling. I could not take Linzess every day, and in the last few months, Linzess raised my blood pressure. I just started Trulance for a week. I had diarrhea movements within two hours but do not feel bloat or that horrible brain fog anymore. I also stopped gaining the weight Linzess was causing. I am praying this will keep working for me."

"Have had CIC (chronic idiopathic constipation) forever. Have had a colon bypass. This drug is not working for me. I am on day 4. Very bloated. Feel as if I need to go to the bathroom but can't. I was on Linzess for a few months. At first, it worked well, then it took longer and longer to work, and then it quit altogether. Felt awful, bloated. Quit taking. My doctor, whom I adore, suggested Trulance. Gave me a one-week sample. I won't finish. It hasn't worked since day one, and once again I feel awful and bloated. Also today, I am itching like crazy."

"Started 2 weeks ago. Take it every night. No significant AEs except increased gas after taking. The gas actually helps reduce bloating, though, so I don't mind. Have not noticed improvement in BMs yet and feel very backed up. Wondering if I need to clean out with mag citrate before starting this drug, as I can tell I am still full of stool that isn't coming out. Will have the urge for BM and then only pass a very small amount. I will give it another few weeks and update my review if things improve. So far, not thrilled, as I was hoping this would help me :/"

"I have chronic constipation all my life - I’m 50 years old. No pain, but I can go a week easy only having about three rabbit-sized bowel motions. On a good week, I might go 3x a hard 5-inch bowel motion. I decided to start it in a particularly bad week at night. No cramps, but lots of gurgling. Two times I went an ok BM, but at least it was back to back. The third morning was HORRIBLE. Diarrhea so bad I couldn’t control the flow, like a colonoscopy prep for hours, but dark brown like it was clearing me out all the way. I was housebound for hours. Sorry. Not for me. Back to over-the-counter laxatives, which stop working. I had high hopes."

"I wish I could report a positive experience with this drug, but I cannot. After one week, I had such severe side effects that I stopped. I think this drug was pushed to market without adequate testing, as I know two other people who tried this drug with horrible results. As for myself, after the week, my abdomen hurt so much I cursed the day I started it. It has been three weeks, and my abdomen is still so sore eating is not even on my mind. I would not recommend this drug to anyone. It produces a modest bowel movement, but the side effects far outweigh its effectiveness."

"So the first two days I was like yes! It worked, and it was normal, cramp-free BM. Next day, a bit of diarrhea, but only two BMs like that. Well, I decided to just take half of one. No cramps or pain, no BM. Skipped another day, and then today I took a half. It's been two hours of off and on the toilet. I stopped having anything solid. It's like I am going pee, but through my behind. Don't let this sway you from trying, but stop if this happens to you."

"I can't have a functional life while taking Trulance. It starts with hours of bubble guts leading to hours of watery diarrhea. Nausea, dizziness, and shortness of breath. I feel too sick to eat. It's not possible to leave the house in this condition!"
