Uloric (febuxostat) for Gout "I took Uloric for four months. It worked great for gout; however. I have experienced a rapid onset hypertension and increased heart rate (+ 35%). I had no such problems prior to Uloric. I'd rather have gout. Caveat Emptor."

Uloric (febuxostat) for Gout "I started on uloric due to having an allergic reaction to allopurinol. Well the 2nd day on it I broke out in a small rash not very noticeable and the 3rd day I have a burning painful rash all over my body!!! My face started swelling and the slightest touch feels like someone is ripping my skin. I was told to stop immediately and now it's the wait game for the reaction to go away now :-("

Uloric (febuxostat) for Gout "Started taking Uloric shortly after it came on the market. It was 10 or 12 years ago now. Initially I suffered a major flair up of which I had been warned would probably occur by my physician. Once it cleared up the gout effecting my fingers, hands and feet totally subsided. I have suffered no noticeable side effects. I have noticed if I over indulge in some foods I will feel a tingling in my left big toe. Its a warning to moderate or alter my diet or else. The medication was expensive when I began taking it and is to this day. I've been thinking their patent on it would expire during my life time but it appears I'm wrong."

Uloric (febuxostat) for Gout "Went on Uloric about 2 years ago, cleared gout up quickly but after 6 months quit due to cost. Have found that Gout attacks are too much to handle so have gone back on Uloric. But have found that in Mexico you can buy the same drug for $30 per month. Thanks US healthcare."

Uloric (febuxostat) for Gout "I have been on 80 mg Uloric with colchicine for the last 18 months. I used to get attacks about once every 3 months, while only taking colchicine, now with Uloric I get an attacks almost every month. It took about 6 months for my purine levels to fall to a normal range. but still attacks, I am saddened by the results. My doctor says to continue and he expects it could be another year before I don't get attacks. I don't believe him and am seeking a second opinion. My attacks typically are in my feet and last 7 to 10 days. I presently have a rare attack in my knee and I can hardly walk without severe pain. I have an insurance plan that basically covers this."

Uloric (febuxostat) for Gout "Had gout flares on & off for 30 years. Usually prednisone would clear it up. Tried allupurinol but it made my legs & feet tingly. Tried uloric, no flare ups. Uric acid dropped to 1.9 on 80 mg. Dr changed dose to 40 mg, uric levels staying around 4. Only side effect I've noticed is a big increase in dreams. No nightmares or bad dreams ,just a lot of regular dreams. Luckily its carried by the base pharmacy so there is no cost."

Uloric (febuxostat) for Gout "I have been on Uloric for the past 18 months. I have taken a pill every day (80mg) with colchicine. Unfortunately my attacks have become more frequent and more severe. My doctor keeps saying I will get better, but I am running out of patience and plan to go to a different doctor and possibly a different drug. I need an honest second opinion, it does not help that my Rheumatologist is closing his practice due to an impending lawsuit."

Uloric (febuxostat) for Gout "I have been on Uloric for 7 months. I originally was on Colchicine originally but my numbers kept increasing, so my Renal Dr. started me on Uloric. Everything went well till my primary Dr. didn't fill my prescription for 5 days. I thought I would be fine, but instead I went into a major flair up. I won't be running out again! I pay $40 with Silver Script RX & B/C B/S."

Uloric (febuxostat) for Gout "initial use caused flare up. Regular use has been very effective at preventing flare ups. Side effect for me is that although it doesn't seem to be be the cause of rashes it seems to exacperate an reoccurring eczema like skin condition on my hands. Stopped use of Uloric to see if skin condition on hands would improve and the eczema was less severe....but then I had a gout attack! No cost to me in Canada with a benefits plan."

Uloric (febuxostat) for Gout "My uric acid was 8.6 after use Uloric went down to 2.9. I've had no attacks after started taking Uloric . I stopped taking it and the uric acid went up 4.5 but the pain was still coming back, not exactly gout attack but I know the kind of pain on my joins, so I started to take it again. Now after taking 80 mg regularly I've got no pains or attacks. No side effects good medicine but the price is just too high."

Uloric (febuxostat) for Gout "Severe gout attacks and then went on Uloric. Unfortunately after 30 days use my labs came back with a high liver enzyme count so had to stop. But my uric acid went from 8.9 to 5.2 so I hope whatever my doctor prescribes will work as well."

For Gout "I had gout for 20 years and allergic to Allopurinol. Overall my gout has been poorly managed. Last year I had back to back debilitating attacks. Radically changed diet with zero effect over many months. Researched BP meds and was taken off Ramipril. Immediate reduction in flare ups but UA still 10 to 17. After going onto 80mg Febuxostat UA was 4.5 within 4 days. Took Colchicine during 4 months. As predicted had flare ups when starting as UA came out of joints. With the worst ever gout attack. Now all is fantastic and taken up exercise again. My arthritic knees even seem better. Don't know if this is coincidence. Fortunately in UK this medicine is free on national health."

For Gout "Had gout since I was 29 and have been able to manage through diet, steroid dose packs, steroid and turdol shots. I am now 43 and attacks have increased with severity and frequency although attacks were about 4-5 times a year. I’ve been on Febuxostat for 4 months and my life has been miserable. Attacks have been horrific! Even on good days within the last 4 months, I can’t walk around the block. My uric acid level is all these down to 4.9 and has been for a couple of months, but life is miserable. How do I have any level of confidence that this is going to actual stop the flares? Really frustrated and could use some advice other than just keep taking it and hope for the best."

Uloric (febuxostat) for Gout "I too had problems with Allopurinol, to the point where the only thing that would relieve my gout attacks (and I was getting them in just about every joint of my body) was Prednisone (not something I wanted to use long term). My doctor switched me to Uloric and I haven't had an attack in about three years (although I do get the odd twinge which I treat with Curcumin or IBP). The cost was high initially but my doctor persisted in convincing Blue Cross to make an exception. They eventually did, reimbursing me for past expenses. There is now a generic form of Uloric so Blue Cross has no problem. I'm not aware of any side effects."

For Gout "Had my first ever Gout flare in 2009. Since then, had about 4 attacks till 2013, but uric acid was always more than 8; some times more than 10. In 2014, I got 2 flares in a year. That's when I started Febuxostat. Worked like a charm! I'm taking 40mg daily. Uric acid is maintained at 5.5 mg/dl since then. I was drinking water like crazy before to maintain uric acid - didn't help. Now, I'm careless about water in-take, still uric acid levels are fine. My doctor is very data driven, so we took baseline SGPT/SGOT (liver enzymes) test before starting the medication. Measured uric acid and liver enzymes again after 1 month, and then after 3 months. No side effects on liver enzymes but uric acid level went down drastically. So, I love it!"

For Gout "From age 52 I began experiencing gout attacks in the big toe then gradually the top of the foot. The only relief prescribed to me was colchicine and NSAIDs, but the attacks became more frequent over time. I then began to experience random swelling in my knees. None of the orthopaedic surgeons or sports doctors thought gout was the cause of my knee issues. They were wrong, it was all about blood chemistry and not about worn cartilage. I found out when finally one GP took a sample of the fluid buildup and and revealed a very high uric acid content in it. He was the only doctor I visited that suggested 40 mg a day Febuxostat to me. The attacks were more frequent initially, but I expected it, that is what happens. It did take around 9 months for the gout attacks and knee swelling to subside, but now can actually sit down on a toilet seat without having to support myself with my arms to avoid pain. I've not had an attack now since nor have I had any knee issues either."

For Gout "Been taking Febuxostat for 20 months or so. Prior to doing so I had major agony gout attacks every two weeks. First year the tablets activated all the stored crystals and I was in agony, but not as frequent...anyway I stuck with it and have had 2 minor not too painful attacks in the last 8 months...after 2 yrs I should have cleared all the joints and won't have any further attacks. I'm running and in the gym for the first time in nearly 3 years, so feel better all round. Stick with it, is my advice. The only downside has been a reduction in libido, but I'll take that over the agony of gout."

For Gout "I've been taking Uloric for about 6 years for chronic gout caused by elevated uric acid. It works well and has controlled my uric acid and eased the gouty toes. However, I am currently taking them every other day, with my fingers crossed, due to the exorbitant cost. My insurance won't cover it. I have tried to appeal their decision to no avail. The insurance company wants me to try that one, try another one, try a witch doctor (just kidding). I know what works but I must jump through their hoops and maybe they will consider it. It's about the money. The insurance companies want more of your money, I want to keep some of my money in case I need to buy food, gas for my car, pay a utility bill or fix my leaky roof. My real doctor doesn't have office samples. Maybe I will look for a witch doctor."

Uloric (febuxostat) for Gout "Initially my doctor prescribed Uloric, my gout never got better, in fact it got worse, my doctor insisted that the medicine would eventually work. After one year of severe gout and attacks every two weeks, a different doctor put me on Allopurinol, 400mg per day, that finally was the answer to my gout problems. Things have been very good for three years now, had only one attack and that is when my doctor went from 300mg to 400mg ."
