Disulfiram for Alcohol Use Disorder "After trying abstinence, hypnotherapy, and meetings, I was finding that nothing worked. This was a last resort for me. After a few days of taking Antabuse medication, I drank and found it very uncomfortable to do so. My eyes were bloodshot, my face red and flushing, chest hurting, and feeling nauseous, eyes blurred, dizzy, and ready to pass out. Despite this, I still drank a few more times and had the exact same reaction. If I drink now, I mostly throw up and pass out for a few hours and wake up really sweaty. It has really taken the joy out of drinking. Every time I drink on this medication, the more adverse I feel to alcohol. I've started drinking alcohol-free alternatives because what's the point in drinking alcohol but throwing up and passing out after a single drink? All I know is that I will keep taking the medication, and I'm wanting to drink less and less. I wouldn't recommend this as a first port of call, but if you've tried a few things and nothing seems to work, then give it a go."

Disulfiram for Alcohol Use Disorder "I have been using Antabuse for a month. I have had some side effects such as nausea and headaches. I still feel that the benefit of the prescription far outweighs any side effects, knowing this has really given my family a sense of security."

Disulfiram for Alcohol Use Disorder "Helped me break a long cycle of binge drinking, but after 3 weeks I found the side effects too much to deal with: constant drowsiness, fatigue, muscle pain, nausea, and stomach cramps. Good luck to everyone who can make it work for them!"

Disulfiram for Alcohol Use Disorder "I am baffled by the positive reviews posted here for Disulfiram. Each time I attempt to recommence Disulfiram treatment, it is only a matter of days before I start feeling nausea, insomnia, and worsening depression symptoms. Make no mistake, I consume zero alcohol while on it. Equally baffling is the lack of reviewers with similar experiences. What's happening here?"

Disulfiram for Alcohol Use Disorder "Love this medication. I've struggled with drinking for nearly 5 years. This medication was my last resort to try. I don't notice any side effects. I take two pills in the evening every day. Out of pure curiosity (and stupidity), I did try drinking to experience the aftereffects of the medication. After about 15 minutes of taking a shot, I was incredibly flushed. Soon after, I experienced extreme dizziness, nausea, headache, just overall a very unpleasant feeling for roughly 4-5 hours. I am actually glad I found out how terrible these aftereffects are because now more than ever, I know I cannot have a sip to drink. I will continue to take this every day to keep myself accountable!"

Disulfiram for Alcohol Use Disorder "I am a moderate-functioning alcoholic and have now been on Antabuse for six weeks. This is the second time I have taken it. It works great for me, but again I have to stop because of side effects: headaches (the worst of my life), nausea, lightheadedness, and feeling bone-tired. These get worse the longer I am on it. Maybe I produce enough alcohol in my digestive tract to cause problems. I have read that this is a thing, though I don't know if it's true."

For Alcohol Use Disorder "I’ve been through a number of treatment programs (inpatient and outpatient). I work closely with three different counselors a week. I also attend AA meetings. What is currently preventing me from having my “slip” every three months is being on monitored Antabuse. It works. I had two occasions where I was off the med long enough to drink and became violently ill. It’s enough to curb my sudden urges. Once I know I can’t drink, the obsession stops. Antabuse is currently a safety net or extra support while I learn to use some of the positive coping skills I’ve picked up from all the programming I’ve been exposed to these past two years. It works. Boy, does it ever."

Disulfiram for Alcohol Use Disorder "30 hours after taking it, it 100% works for alcohol issues, high BP, HR-125 sitting still, nausea, flushed. This works better than withdrawals as a deterrent. Man, this sucks."

Disulfiram for Alcohol Use Disorder "Best thing I've ever done, tried every other possible way to stop & this is the only thing that has broken my nine-year daily drinking habit. I couldn't recommend it highly enough to anyone out there that just can't stop. I take it at night as it makes me drowsy but suits me as it now serves as a sleeping pill as well, a bit dizzy & nauseous in the morning but early days. I take 1/2 tablet - 50mg every second night."
