Desmopressin for Diabetes Insipidus "I've been on the nasal spray nightly for 7 years since pituitary removal surgery. It's wonderful, expensive, but it works. I have found the generic version not as good, needs to be refrigerated, where the DDAVP has a normal shelf life."

For Diabetes Insipidus "I have been on DDAVP since 2004. I recently changed over to the tablet form. It is much more convenient to carry with me, but I have found that I have trouble having regular bowel movements, and also I am having trouble losing weight. How can I lose the water weight while still staying hydrated on the DDAVP? I have heard that maybe I should limit my fluid intake."

Desmopressin for von Willebrand Disease "Stimate has been very effective with my 2 children in stopping a bleed quickly. It is our first line of defense when a severe bleed starts. Check with your doctor and have them test the effectiveness before using."

For Primary Nocturnal Enuresis "I remember taking this when I was a kid, 1 spray in each nostril. It worked great. Besides a post-nasal drip right after dosing, I don't remember having any bad side effects. Can't remember how long I was prescribed it, but I think 1-2 years."

For Hemophilia A "I have mild hemophilia type A. My factor eight level is about 8-9%. Once infused, my factor eight level usually increases to over 40%. Good for oral dental surgeries such as extraction or even implants. Side effects are pretty pronounced. Face flush, blood pressure rise. Both of these effects subsided gradually. Peak factor increase occurs 20-40 minutes after infusion. Half-life is approximately 3-4 hours, so any dental surgery needs to be timed. Secondly, an anti-fibrinogen is also taken so coagulation clots dissipate slowly. It all works for dental surgery but requires a lot of coordination with the dentist, hematologist, and infusion center. The infusion center needs to plan in advance of infusion as DDAVP drip infusion takes time to prepare. You want to aim for surgery to begin at most 1-2 hours after infusion. I now always talk in person with the infusion center regarding the timing aspect. DDAVP is only recommended if hemophilia type A is classified as mild."

For Diabetes Insipidus "The pill I take has Des/0.2 (top & bottom) on the front and APO on the back. I rate this medication a ten because without it I will probably die due to dehydration because my bladder won't stop dumping, peeing. It's very painful to have to just pee all day and can't do anything else, and I mean every 15 minutes or less without it, and I was only in my 20s when I got on it."

For Hemophilia A "I use DDAVP injections for my mild hemophilia A to prevent bleeding prior to surgery and treat spontaneous or injury-induced bleeds, it always works well. I always flush in the face and ears with it, but otherwise, no issues. It was given to me prior to my cesarean section for my son, but the doctor upped my fluid IV, causing dangerously low sodium levels, but it was quickly adjusted and no harm done in the long term."

Desmopressin for Diabetes Insipidus "I love this medication, it works a lot better than the pill! I can go about 18 hours or so, whereas the pill will last only a few hours, if that!"
