For High Cholesterol "Praluent was working great for the past 9 months without any side effects but during the last 3 weeks I started to have the symptoms of arthritis that is some pain in the joints. It improves some when I walk. I hope these symptoms will not further increase. Will update you in another 2-3 weeks."

For High Cholesterol, Familial Heterozygous "Injected Praluent 3 weeks ago. I am 74 yr old female, generally very healthy and active with familial cholesterol( not tolerant of statins etc). I had cold symptoms and a mild sore throat two days after the injection. Injected again 1 week ago, completely floored this week, with sickness and diahrrea the following day, stayed in bed that day, the following day and every morning this week as I am so tired ( injected on a Sunday, it is now Thursday). Still have a very red, sore and swollen throat and the symptoms of a heavy cold. I rarely have colds or sore throats or sickness etc. I shall not be continuing with medicine"

For High Cholesterol "I took the first Praluent 150 injection and on the 3rd day after I got a terrible UTI. On day 5, I got severe body aches and muscle spasms. I’m on my second antibiotic for the UTI. I went to the doctor once and 5 days later ended up at the ER. I’m supposed to take my 2nd injection on Saturday but that won’t be happening. I’m just hoping my body gets back to normal soon. The Praluent injection was worse than Crestor or Lipitor for me."

For High Cholesterol "Been taking 150mg of Praluent for 2 months now. The first month was perfectly fine, had no problems as I inject it in my thigh areas. However, I got a big welt and itching in that area from the third injection. I changed the injection site to my other thigh for the fourth injection and had the same side effect. Showed my cardiologist when I went in for a follow-up, but they did not seem concerned as levels were down. I’m allergic to all statins and had to try something, will continue if this is all that happens I can tolerate it with anti-itch cream. I will discontinue though if more side effects appear. Will see what happens in my third month. I’m 71 years old and have had 2 stents over 21 years. My high cholesterol numbers just jumped in the last year, possibly due to age as I’m a healthy eater, and I exercise three times a week. Will update again in 2-3 months."

For High Cholesterol, Familial Heterozygous "I’m a 55 yr old male with familial Hypercholesteremia. I take zeros, Crestor and Praluent. My numbers are awesome. HDL, LDL all fantastic. I d been on Praluent for about 6 months so about 12 doses of 150mg. I have developed several muscle and joint pain in my hips that is now spreading into my legs. I have also developed mild neuropathy in my hands. I am an avid golfer and tennis player and it is now to the point where I have had to stop playing both and ache when I walk. I am considering going off the Praluent and just accepting my fate!!!"

For High Cholesterol "Mine is the usual story. I got horrific muscle cramps, especially in my thighs, from taking even the smallest imaginable dose of a statin (5 mg per week). I just had to stop taking any statin. I tried diet alone to lower my numbers and that didn't work. I fought trying an injectable for my cholesterol/cardiovascular issues for several years until I didn't have any options left. Two weeks ago I gave myself my first Praluent injection. I'm needle phobic so imagine my surprise when I never even felt the tiny needle and had to check to make sure it was actually in my skin. Then yesterday I did my second of my two monthly injections and it was the same; over in about 5-10 seconds! This was the big hurdle for me, so if you think you can't do an injectable, try it. It's really no big deal. This drug costs me $250/month with my Blue Cross insurance. I am hoping as users go up, the price will go down. Time will tell if my cholesterol goes down."

For High Cholesterol "I have only been taking this medication Praluent a short time so I can't say whether it has helped reduce my cholesterol. What I don't like about this drug is that it makes me feel nauseous and I sweat profusely which is upsetting and embarrassing as I work part time at a store as a dressing room attendant or a cashier."

For Cardiovascular Risk Reduction "I cannot tolerate statins so my cardiologist suggested Praluent 75 mg. every two weeks. After the first injection I began to have burning sensation and irritation on my lips and in mouth this progressed to itching on body followed by burning skin sensation on arms and legs as well. I also have muscle and joint pain and aching as well as dizziness. Both Doctor and pharmacist said to stop it because seems to be an allergic reaction. I can't comment on effectiveness because I only took one dose. Symptoms are persisting after two weeks and I hope they end soon. I am sensitive to many drugs but was hoping I could tolerate this so I am disappointed. My cholesterol is not that high usually LDL is around 100 or slightly less with no medication. So I will continue to watch my diet carefully and hope for the best."

For High Cholesterol, Familial Heterozygous "I have been taking 150 mg of Praluent for 2 - 3 months and began experiencing thigh pain and weakness, worsening dizziness, and worsening neck, and right knee pain. I used to walk 3 miles a day, do cardio twice a week, weights twice a week. Now my dizziness and leg weakness does not allow me to walk without holding on to the wall or using a cane. My last injection was three weeks ago but symptoms persist though not worsening. Pending Neurology and all the usual workup but I feel strongly it’s Praluent, especially after reading these reviews. Like many others here, I cannot tolerate the statins. Was on Praluent 75mg for about a year and did experience dizziness and thigh “heaviness” and muscle cramping but not to this extent."

For High Cholesterol "My total cholesterol has dropped from 268 to 125! The “all important” LDL (bad cholesterol) has been reduced from 184 to 50! Dramatic reductions in just 6 weeks on 150mg every two weeks. My HbA1c is essentially the same at 6.6 (was 6.7)...not bad. Kidney, liver- all stable and ok. No side effects at all with Praluent. Statins are toxic to my system--not just side effects, but toxic."

For High Cholesterol "I have had a CV event and have very high LDL and high LPa and cannot tolerate statins. I started on Praluent and was fine right after the injection. But the first night I woke up with a very swollen tongue and lips and an extremely dry mouth and throat. Took 1/2 Benadryl which seemed to resolve. But over the next few days, I would experience bouts of extremely high BP and flushing of my face and chest (I tend to have low BP so this was very odd). High BP and flushing seemed to occur after any exertion and followed by extreme tiredness for a few weeks and my doctor told me not to take the next dose. Additionally, I have had very unusual headaches, and odd bruising, as well as pinpoint bleeding under my skin and bleeding (large thick clots of blood) from my nose. If I got bit by an insect I would have rubbery clots of blood on my skin. All very strange, and I will be glad when this med has worked its way out of my system (about 40 days). FYI I do have a lot of sensitivity to many meds so I am not surprised."

For High Cholesterol, Familial Heterozygous "I was prescribed Repatha however, my Insurance forced me to take Praluent. I started on Praluent just after Christmas 2019 and continued every 2 weekly shots through August 2020. My body will not tolerate Statin drugs, so this was my only option to try and control my Cholesterol. In December of 2019, my Total cholesterol was 286 after 8 months of using Praluent my cholesterol only went down by 2 point to 284. My Triglycerides went up by 50 points, 108 in December to 158 in august. HDL (good cholesterol) went down by 3 points, 50 in December to 47 in August. Finally, my LDL went down by 9 points, 214 in December to 205 in August. In summation, Praluent did not work for me. Hopefully, I have better results on Repatha. From a side effect point of view, I would take the injection on a Thursday and by Saturday afternoon I would be bothered with a headache. Usually by Sunday night the headache would resolve, I would be fine until my next dose."

For High Cholesterol "My family has a genetic history of high cholesterol. I've been using Praluent since it came out after the clinical trials. We arranged a cath lab examination two years after I started taking the Praluent, and everything looked normal around the heart, with no calcium buildup other than one little speck. I've never had a stroke or heart attack. My cholesterol levels are in the normal range but were high when I was younger. Statins had too many side effects, and I stopped using them. The side effects are minimal to date. I take two injections twice a month, 150 mg. each."

For High Cholesterol "I have been on this for a month. Two injections so far. I am 64 years old, I exercise frequently, and have a history of cholesterol - total number under 200 however. Since taking this drug, I have been sluggish and fatigued. The fatigue comes and goes. Prior to taking this, I rode my stationary bike about 8 to 10 miles every other day. It is difficult to do what I regularly did prior to initiating this drug. Now, my exercise routine is tougher to do and I am very fatigued after riding. PSk9 inhibitors appear to have an impact on my blood pressure response to exercise. Hypotension response appears amplified (I am going for a follow-up on this). Research I have read on the PSK9's like this says, however, that the impact is "inconclusive" with respect to BP. However, I am more fatigued being on this drug. The first few days my cognitive abilities were impaired but this did improve. I also had more frequent nighttime urination. I am not taking a third Praluent injection."

For High Cholesterol, Familial Heterozygous "61 y.o. female with FH (familial high cholesterol ): I had pre-existing neuralgia which was somewhat manageable, I tried statins and they brought my pain levels to 10+ so no statins for me. Praluent was okay regarding neuralgia for the first few months when I was yanking out the needle at the halfway point (due to a bad reaction to Repatha in 2018...another story for another day). 8 weeks ago when I started leaving the needle in until it retracted, i.e., giving myself the full 75 mg, that's when my neuralgia started to break through intensely. Very disappointing. I hope that, going back to the half dose, even though it's very hard to estimate when to pull out the needle -- the needle is so fast, I hope to reverse the increased neuralgia. I need a full dose but it looks like I can't tolerate it. Dang! When the nerve pain increases, my good mood disappears."

For High Cholesterol "Awesome stuff for me. No side effects. Cut the pravastatin in half 40mg pravastatin 1x daily plus 75mg alirocumab every other week HDL down from 399 to 85mg dl. Still taking the other stuff. Livolo works fairly well but not like this. Can't tolerate ACE inhibitors and some med put a bruise across my back within three days. instant kidney damage. Now blue cross wants to deny me the only med combo I could tolerate. Actually prime theraputics is doing that. Forwarding their denial to cardio and via my atty to oag and state insurance board. After one 4x cabg 3 stents 2 mi. Bilateral endarectomy and original LDL around 400. I think my widow will be a millionaire as for ME.. we can prove this is the best and most correct treatment plan and it did work for about 5 years until they decided they should play doctor..."

For High Cholesterol "Switched from repatha to praulent due to insurance. I injected first of the month. Now after 2 Er Visits and a bunch of prednisone, it's finally starting to leave my body. To recap. The next day I felt like I got hit with the flu and had no energy and felt like crap, shorty after my whole face, fingers and feet blew up and I has covered in hives, from head to toe. I'm a day done with my steroids and the hives are already coming back. Not as bad, but enough to be bothersome, especially during bed time. If you have any sensitivity to statins, I highly suggest you stay away."

For High Cholesterol "I couldn't tolerate statins. Tried 3. Each one gave a lot of pain....liver and angina. I had to stop them. While off them for a month my Total Cholesterol went from 165 to 213, LDL's went from 65 to 110. Now my Total is 97 and LDL's are 24. I take Lovaza to keep my HDL's up at 45-49; they never were above 34 my whole life no matter what I tried. I have no side effects and I feel the best in 5 years."

For High Cholesterol, Familial Heterozygous "35 year history here of familial high cholesterol. Participated in medical studies many of these years-first for new statins, then other drugs. Lowest my overall cholesterol went was 259, that with max dose of Crestor and Zetia combined. Took that before and after triple bypass and stent on the 4th artery. Eventually all statins cause too much muscoskeletal pain for me but had to keep taking them. Up next was clinical studies for Praluent. Never knew for sure that I was on it. Today, 1 year after it was officially on the market, my cholesterol was 149!!!! Lowest in 34 years, from a high of 600! I will take any mild side effects!! I also get help with copay from PAN and worry their help will run out. Thank you God!!"

For High Cholesterol, Familial Heterozygous "I'm a 71 yo caucasian male with a diagnosis of PAD, atherosclerosis and hyperlipidemia. I can't tolerate statins due to severe muscle cramping and prescribed Praluent soon after it was approved by the FDA. Aside from minor leg cramping which is controlled by ingesting a banana a day and a runny nose for 24-48 hours after injection, my total cholesterol has dropped from 300+ to less than 100 ! I'm VERY pleased with its' results !"
