For Pseudotumor Cerebri "Migraine sufferer of 5 years, labeled chronic. Finally got my neurologist to send for MRI, MRA, and LP. Opening pressure was 24 during LP, closed at 19. Started Diamox and built up to 1000 mg daily. 500 mg in the am and 500 in the pm. Symptoms include tingling in feet more than hands, metallic taste lasted the first two weeks. I'm not a huge soda drinker but will have a Coke or Sprite. No issues until I had a Dr. Pepper, tasted like pennies. Yuck! Headache days have decreased from about 20 per month to 2 or 3. Last a couple of hours, then no issues but worse around my cycle. I've also stopped all other medications such as Tylenol, Excedrin, Aleve. My vision has improved as well and not so blurry in the morning. I do still have ringing in the ears occasionally and pulsating in my head, but I give it an A- overall from where I started 2 months ago."

"I just started taking Acetazolamide 1/2 pill of 250 mg tab for my ringing in my left ear, and I'm feeling tired and kind of weak. I feel like going back to bed. My ENT Dr. prescribed this. Does anyone else out there have similar problems?"

For Mountain Sickness / Altitude Sickness "Upon arrival in Lhasa, Tibet, at approx 3000 MAS (meters above sea level), I started getting a very bad headache. Approx 8 hrs later, the headache had progressed to extreme throbbing. I drank plenty of water and took Diamox as prescribed by my G.P. for altitude sickness. The next day, I signed myself up on a tour to travel to Nam Tso at approx 5000 MAS."

For Mountain Sickness / Altitude Sickness "Absolute game changer for skiing at high altitude. I thought I would inevitably spend the first few days sick and anxious from being out of breath. I did have some dizziness and pins and needles 'electric feeling,' but this side effect was worth feeling so much better and enjoying my holiday."

For Pseudotumor Cerebri "I am 50 years old with a BMI of 28.9. I was suffering from a headache for 3 months. After taking Diamox 250, I started to gradually feel better, but after a month, I started having a high-pressure headache, which was worse than before."

For Mountain Sickness / Altitude Sickness "I took one of these pills (125 mg) to try it before my vacation, and I haven't felt so sick in a long time. OMG, it was horrible!! It started with mild dizziness and tiredness. Not so bad, but by the 12th hour, I just wanted to check out. A lot of dizziness, very tired but couldn't sleep, nausea, and headache. Generally, I felt awful but couldn't put my finger on how else it made me feel this awfulness. I took a meclizine and some Advil and felt a bit better. The next day, I still felt a bit weird but not so awful. That stuff lasts a long time, and if you take it on vacation and have my reaction, you'll waste a lot of hours being miserable."

For Glaucoma "I don’t like this one bit. The first day I took it, I felt like I was having a massive panic attack or I was going to go crazy. I tried to stick it out for a couple more days and take it right before I sleep, and that helped, but honestly it’s such a pain to eat and take it right before bed and force yourself to sleep, otherwise, you're going to have to go to the hospital. It has really red marks whenever I lean on my arm or hand. Anyway, I don’t like it, but everyone’s different, so give it a shot :)"

For Hydrocephalus "Suddenly, 2 months ago, I fell down and couldn't move. The day after, I fell down again, went to the emergency with magnetic walking, then couldn't walk at all. I went to another hospital where they prescribed me Diamox 250 for 20 days, magnetic resonance and TAC, and after that, I came to see the doctor again. After the third day of taking Diamox, I could walk again."

For Pseudotumor Cerebri "First of all, I am happy for everyone that has benefited from this medication. For me, I don't feel this medication has done anything for me. I started taking a small dose, 250 mg, when I was diagnosed with IIH back in September of 2020. Since then, my headaches have not gone away, I am now up to 1625 mg per day. Yes, I have lost 30 lbs. The worst side effects for me are diarrhea, tingling in my feet, ringing in my ears, and all-day fatigue. The lack of energy and the headaches continue to be so massive that they debilitate me so badly, but I have to work like this, either work or be homeless. They also did a lumbar puncture, which caused a tear in my dura, and they had to do an epidural blood patch, and it took a month to recover. I was told that if this medication doesn't help and losing weight, then the next option is a brain shunt. I am just so tired of taking this medication, which I don't see any benefit or help with my headaches, which is what changed my life, and then the constant blurred vision."

For Hydrocephalus "At first, I was diagnosed with idiopathic intracranial hypotension (IIH) by some neuro. But I was on mega doses at that time. Lost all muscles and any weight that I had. I was 24. Weighed in at 190, male, 6 foot 1. So good build and a good weight. Not no fat like they say that it always causes or vice versa. Or etc. Never had a seizure until that med. I had other problems when I was 16 years old, etc. But I was a lot better from 18 on up. But the only reason to go was a headache, it was a crippling headache that kept me in bed almost all the time, and I saw a neurosurgeon. Went from IIH to constructed hydrocephalus. To the next shunt, I lost 5 to 10 years I don't remember at all. Went crossed-eyed with just one eye. When I was 24-27. Had 20/20. That happened. I couldn't see anything. Everything was seeing 2 or 3 of something. Went on for a year. Ok. I'm done. Have had 7 or 8 surgeries in 4 years, etc. Not counting eye."

For Glaucoma "I was prescribed this for eye pressure reduction due to diabetes and glaucoma surgery recovery. I was told to take as much as I could handle, as much as 4000 mg was authorized. I was to take it so that my eye would heal properly after the Ahmed valve installation surgery. So far I have taken 500 mg for a week and have found I am shivering a lot. My balance is off and I find myself bumping into things a lot more. I have gone out of my way to add extra potassium while on this drug as suggested in the guide. I think the worst effect I have had is that my fasting blood sugars will not go below 13 mmol/L, no matter how hard I try. I went from 8.1 mmol/L to 13 the day I started this and they have gone up to 16 but will not go below 13. Metformin seems to have no effect at all. And that has me concerned. The benefits of this remain to be seen as I visit the doctor shortly."

For Pseudotumor Cerebri "So I was started with 250 mg twice a day with Diamox, and I absolutely could not tolerate this medication. I even went down to 125 mg twice a day, still couldn't do it. To me, this medication is awful, the side effects are horrendous, and please do not believe the doctors that this is just a diuretic. Diamox breaks down your CFS, and I'm just not comfortable with taking a medicine that does that. It caused intense nausea, vomiting, anxiety, depleted my electrolytes, which is very dangerous, and gave me kidney infections, and I was only on it for 2 weeks. It can also cause kidney stones and failure... so that's awesome. Please, please look into this medication before taking it. I've gone with more alternative methods like acupuncture and lymphatic massage and had much better results and no nasty side effects."

For Pseudotumor Cerebri "Diamox put me in remission after about six months, but it began to cause tinnitus and hearing problems. My hearing is fine now, but I cannot take Diamox again if my PTC returns. Just something to keep in mind. Tinnitus and hearing issues are considered rare side effects, but they can happen."
