Butrans - How long does it take for the patch to start to take affect once I put it on?

My doctor just prescribed me the butrans 5mcg strength patches that last 7 days how long will it take before I feel the affects of it once I put the first one on

Conversion of 10mg oxycodone to 10mg hydrocodone?

I have oxycodone hcl 10 mg. Can I cut them in half?
