Yes, you can and in most cases, it is easier to take less than too much Make sure you double check on your bottle and it does not say anything to indicate that it is a tr timed release most the ones I have seen are small round tablets. I don't even think they make an extended release those are the type you never break or capsules. but typed the way you have it you can break them and in fact, most of them have what we call a score which is a line indent that you can cut with a pill cutter or razor blade. good luck
