The pharmacist told me that it would take 24 hours to take full effect. But you will get increasing relief in the meantime. If you don't get enough relief, there are 10 and 15 mcg patches. The 20 mcg is too much for most people.
I use the 20! Now I feel weird lol! I took me about a good solid two day to get the full effect in my system but like Sara said you should start getting more and more pain relief through out the first 24 hours. By the 2nd day you should be leveled out.
Don't feel weird. You must need it. We are all different with our problems. Hope you're doing okay.
Yes. I do have side effects from the patch but my pain is much better since I found this patch! I'm slowly getting my life back.
What side effects do you have? The side effect that I notice the most is that it takes a while to get all my urine out. I will go to the bathroom in the night, then 15-20 minutes later, I need to go again. A real nuisance. My doctor thinks it's from the Butrans patch.
Thank you for your response Sara I greatly appreciate it
Thanks so much for getting back with me. It's so nice when the one who asks the question answers back. I wear the Butrans patch because a stroke caused severe migraines. Without it, I had to go to the ER about every 2-3 weeks. I do wish you well. Feel free to let me know how you are doing.
Thank you once again I be had the patch on now for a little bit longer than24 hours and it just really doesn't seem to be working very well, I might need a higher mg
I'm certain you do. You might wait a week if you can stand it before calling your doctor. But if your in agony I would go in and say something.
I agree with Diane.
You should be able to just call your doctor's office about it.
Other user correct by saying you will need more if starting dose does not help etc. You asked how long does it take ... it is not immediate relief. The transdermal patch slowly seaps into skin and it will take your body several days to acclimate to the dose. After first 2 wks you should more or less know if med is helpinf and if not talk about an increase. Keep in mind the higher you go up then will need to taper down slowly if stopping this med. failure to taper results in horrific opiod withdrawals... flu like. I have found the butrans doc inside answers most all your questions and these are more reliable than the internet.
I need to taper off my Butrans patches. How do you do that? The only way that I can think of is to slowly move it down my leg farther from the optimal sites. My neurologist does not know of a way to do it and referred me to a pain doctor who is not available until August. But his team after a week have not yet decided whether to take me as a patient!!
